Please don't "standardize" the section header to Use Effects. The standard ([[Proposed_Standards#When_Used]]) is When Used.  Thanks. --[[User:Gymnosophist|Gymnosophist]] 22:20, 28 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

*Why is that, exactly? That wasn't in the Proposed Standards the last time I edited egg pages, so I based it on the ones for food and drinks, which respectively are "Eat Effects" and "Drink Effects". Wouldn't "Use Effects" be more consistent? -- [[User:Old Ned|Old Ned]]

*Hmm, they'd be nice where appropriate, but it's too much fuss and we wanna be consistent. Since, it's too hard with the curly quotes I say we consistently have normal quotes. Also, I noticed you were replacing in-game text with these, with makes them not match the actual in-game text.--{{:User:Dehstil}} 00:24, 28 August 2006 (CDT)

**I'm having trouble understanding some of the objections. Ugly? Normal "typewriter" quotes are far uglier, to me. More difficult to perform searches? You mean, say, when trying to search for a phrase that includes an apostrophe, the search won't find occurrences that use a curly apostrophe? I didn't realize the search was so... limited. I apologize for the links on [[Eleven]], though; I know better than to put curly quotes into a link, so I don't know why I did in that case. Must have been sleepy or something. -- [[User:Old Ned|Old Ned]] 03:05, 10 September 2006 (CDT)

:*Don't you mean "Why is that, eggxactly?"  :~)  Actually, you're right, this is a fairly recent change.  Basically, it's because not all usable items have a use effect ([[briefcase]], for example), and we wanted to have a standard section title that would be applicable for all usable items.  Jinya made the final choice on wording.  Here's the archived discussion: [[Talk:Proposed_Standards-Archive#Standards_for_Usable_Items_.26_Combat_Items]].  --[[User:Gymnosophist|Gymnosophist]] 22:38, 28 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

*Hmm, I guess it should be "Use Effects", "Eat Effects", and "Drink Effects" or "When Used", "When Eaten", "When Drunk"... I think when drunk is the drink equiv. of eaten, past tenses are ate and drank.--[[User:JRSiebz|JRSiebz]] 22:42, 28 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

I noticed you have been a contributor to [[Recipe]].
:*Either of those systems would work for me; it was the inconsistency that irked me. I think it would be easier to change all occurrences of "When Used" than all occurrences of "Eat Effects" and "Drink Effects", just because there's only one thing to change instead of two, but I don't know how many pages would be involved. If there are a lot more usable items than edible/drinkable items, then changing Eat/Drink could be quicker. And yes, you got the tenses right. 8-) -- [[User:Old Ned|Old Ned]] 15:12, 3 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

*Hey. I noticed that you're fixing <nowiki>{{itemheader}}</nowiki> templates in alphabetical order. I happen to be on a similar quest, only I'm doing it by item number/miscellaneouss convenient page edit. D'ya think there's some way we could coordinate our efforts? --[[User:Alpaca|<font color="green">Alpaca</font>]] 22:02, 24 November 2005 (Central Standard Time)

UTF-8 curly quotes

  • Is it absolutely necessary to use these everywhere? They're kind of ugly, and they make it more difficult to perform searches for stuff that uses them. And in the case of the two pet rock disguises (mentioned on Eleven), it can actually cause links to break. --Quietust 00:10, 28 August 2006 (CDT)

I noticed you have been a contributor to Recipe. I've proposed some fundamental changes on how it's connected in the wiki and would like to invite you to discuss them on Talk:Recipe.
