It's my guess (though it is, of course, only a guess) that the "don't need the skulls" refusal bit is a reference to Soapdish, a film. It's a little hard to explain, but there's a sort of improvisational soap opera. Sally Fields volunteers her character (her character's character) for a brain transplant, which prompts this exchange with Kevin Kline's character: "I don't think you understand how *serious* this operation is! You will NOT have a BRAIN when it is OVER!" "I don't want a brain, I don't NEED it. TAKE the (expletive) thing!" (Kevin Kline throws up his hands) "It's gone." --Listen2Reason 21:03, 30 June 2007 (CDT)

Uhhmmm... I think that's a bit of a stretch. It's a much more obvious reference to the Misfits song Skulls. Updating the page to mention this. --alacrity 15:45, 22 July 2007 (CDT)

Also, I just got 202 meat from the second skull. --Listen2Reason 19:12, 6 July 2007 (CDT)

  • I got 300 meat from the second skull. Changing data...--Philmasterplus 10:22, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Isn't the adventure name a reference to sculling/chugging beer?--Parroharro 01:18, 7 August 2007 (CDT)

I highly, highly, HIGHLY doubt it. --MrAndersonMan 01:43, 7 August 2007 (CDT)

Check behind the first one text

I'm pretty sure the text after clicking 'Check behind the first one' is a reference to Planescape Torment. There is a talking skull named Morte in the game who tells jokes and attacks by way of insults. Krynus 00:58, 24 July 2008 (CDT)

Talkative skull

This seems to be a one-time, ever, thing. On my second Zombie Slayer run, I only got the stats from the first choice. —Yendor 17:38, 25 August 2012 (CEST)

  • i feel certain someone used to have four. bugfix? --Evilkolbot 14:00, 30 August 2012 (CEST)
    • Just checked it in my second run, I have the familiar already but here's a data point. After having the familiar in your terrarium you cannot get a second one. With hatchling in the DC/hangk's: Unknown.. --Serin 18:11, 31 August 2012 (CEST)
  • i dced mine without thinking. i'm plodding toward the sorceress and will, after a long aftercore and an inept hszm, be at the cyrpt again in ten or so days. i'll check then.--Evilkolbot
    • ok so that took less time than i anticipated. skull in dc, just got stats. next ascension, will try in hagnk's. i'm guessing not, though. --Evilkolbot 22:39, 5 September 2012 (CEST)
      • I got a second one with a skull in Hagnk's! Woo-hoo! --Club (#66669) (Talk) 21:28, 14 November 2012 (CET)
        • do you have any idea how much i hate you right now? no? good. mad props and very envious. --Evilkolbot 23:31, 14 November 2012 (CET)
          • Not like you didn't know to check. :-P --Club (#66669) (Talk) 05:30, 15 November 2012 (CET)

Debonair Deboner

Trying to spade how to unlock this hidden choice. Getting the adventure with the following as active familar does NOT allow the choice to appear: Hovering Skull, Misshapen Animal Skeleton, Ghuol Whelp, Grue, Exotic Parrot (fwiw). Did not try Ghost Pickle on a Stick since it I have to believe that a familiar based reveal would use a more commonly available familiar. MolotovH (talk) 08:01, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

  • Add Mini-Skulldozer to the list. --Stormfox (talk) 19:28, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Also add stomping boots and Jung Man. I also tried all 3 other skulls to see if it would show up afterward. Nope. QVamp (talk) 14:26, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
  • I just came across the Debonair Deboner choice for the first time. I'm not sure if it's familiar/buff/equipment related or if it just shows up rarely. At any rate, it was during a softcore AT run. My buffs were pretty standard stuff, +familiar weight and +ML, mostly. I had an Adorable Space Buddy (25lbs) as my familiar. Here's what I was wearing: - Hairpiece On Fire - astral shirt - polyester parachute - Shakespeare's Sister's Accordion - A Light that Never Goes Out - Xiblaxian stealth trousers - Ms. Accessory - Hand in Glove - shiny ring. If it matters, I reached the adventure on Day 1 of my run. --Sensibleb (talk) 17:03, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
    • I also just got one. I doubt that the option is familiar-related (I came by with a Golden Monkey), but I see a few parallels here: I also wore a Hairpiece On Fire and a Hand In Glove from the equipment you mentioned. Other than that, I was buffed with Merry Smithsness, Shanty and Fat Loot and also encountered the option on the first day of a Softcore run - specifically less than 150 adventures into the ascension. I think the time of encounter (day 1) might be the most interesting lead so far, would be good if someone else could check on that as well. [Edit: seems to also only happen once per ascension if time into ascension is in fact what determines if this choice shows up] --Bootrecords (talk) 17:38, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
      • Hm, I re-checked on my follow-up ascension, and although I got there again on the first day with less than 150 adventures in, I didn't get the choice this time. Anyone ever got two deboners from the choice adventure? Maybe it's one per player, but somehow I doubt that. --Bootrecords (talk) 14:03, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
        • I've been able to get at least three deboners, on three different days in three different ascensions. It's definitely not once per player. --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 17:20, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
