I'm not exactly sure how to add this information to the main article (no familiarity with the format) but I just discovered...

The samurai turtle is not consumed when used in combat.--JonMW 12:57, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Update. I got a second samurai turtle and started funkslinging them to spade the damage range. Was fighting a guy with a pitchfork, and his wife. First round, I did 10 and 7 damage (if I remember right). Second round...

samurai turtle

The turtle pulls out a tiny sword, and slashes at your opponents' knees, dealing 6 damage. Where does he keep that sword when he's not using it? samurai turtle

The turtle looks at you, shakes his head, bows, and disappears into the shadows. Looks like you asked too much of him.

Continued using remaining turtle in the same combat. Next rounds: 6 damage 8 damage 9 damage 5 damage 8 damage turtle leaves me. Same message as the first time.

so, any ideas? I'll get another two and update with the next bit of raw data I pick up. I'm not certain, but I THINK that the second turtle hanged around for longer. That's what I'm testing now.--JonMW 13:12, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

This'll probably be my last contribution to the page... You get to use a samurai turtle 5 times, then it leaves you on the next attempt, even if that next attempt is in a different battle.

Looking at it another way... you have a hidden counter that starts of 0. Every time you use a samurai turtle in battle, that counter increments by one. When that counter is equal to 5, the next attempted use of a samurai turtle will simply cost you that turtle without doing any damage, and the counter is set to 0 again.

I wonder if there's something deeper going on here, though. Why isn't the turtle simply removed directly after the 5th use? Is there some way to PAY these little guys? I might try some things half-heartedly, but don't expect more information unless I come up with something that improves the usability of these things.--JonMW 12:41, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Over on Talk:Protector Spectre someone posted an interesting elemental attack. That looks like improved usability. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 18:23, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh boy, does it! As a level 16 turtle tamer, here are the results I got:

  • 4 frigid star attacks I didn't think to write down, put frigid stars into closet, a teeny-tiny attack for 221 damage, leaves.
  • Teeny-tiny ninja stars attacks for 273, 291, 220, 274, 233 damage, leaves.
  • Ran out of teeny-tiny stars, regular attack for 8 damage, get frigid stars out of closet, frigid star attacks for 128, 148, 124, 130 damage, leaves.

Those cold attacks were against sleaze monsters (frat orc cavemen), though, so cutting the damage in half gives the 62-74 range which matches what's on the Protector Specter talk page. I wonder if it does any other neat tricks? --Johnny Treehugger 20:16, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey, guess what? The Samurai Turtle can also use Star Throwing Stars.

  • I had one frigid ninja star, one teeny-tiny ninja star, and one star throwing star. Using the same turtle, the frigid star was thrown first, followed by the star throwing star, then the teeny-tiny star.
  • A fresh turtle threw 5 star throwing stars that hit for 163, 170, 209, 158, and 163 damage points before leaving.
  • A non-fresh samurai turtle also hit for 171 damage, when I was just trying to see if it would use the star throwing star.

Nice! Did you copy the message it generates when you use a star throwing star? I didn't want to update the main page without it. --Johnny Treehugger 16:23, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
FYI, it does not throw onion shuriken. I'm disappointed. --Prestige 11:14, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
I just observed the turtle using onion shuriken. The devs must have updated this at some point. --IMJack 16:44, 9 November 2012 (CET)
Er... try again. I just closeted all my other throwing stars, bought a half dozen onion shuriken, used a samurai turtle, and got a tiny sword and 5 damage. --Johnny Treehugger 17:43, 9 November 2012 (CET)
What about the other shurikens in the game? I plan on going TT next ascension and can test then, but that will be a week or more away. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 18:16, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
Two ascensions later I finally tried this. The turtle does not use naughty paper shurikens. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 19:07, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
The turtle grabs a star throwing star from your sack and hurls it at your opponent, dealing 197 damage.--Sympa 02:30, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

I got different results. I used a turtle several times then kmailed it to a clannie, to see if it would maintain the usage-- count or reset. That user got six successful attacks out of the turtle, and it quit on the seventh. I pulled another turtle from Hagnk's and got four attacks from it, and it quit on the fifth. Pulled a third turtle, same result, 4 attacks then quit. Meanwhile, the other user got 7,7,6,6,5,6,6. Riley37 --Riley37 06:10, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
