Please add wands in in alphabetical order, there are rumors about a pine wand too...
It seems, though the wands are named differently, they all have the same use, which is zapping stuff.

How long is three days?

  1. two rollovers (cf ascension length)
  2. three rollovers
  3. difference in date of two days (cf Easter)
  4. difference in date of three days
  5. 72 hours --Evilkolbot 12:11, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

The page on Rollover says that it is three rollovers. --Campboy 19:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Blasted my wand Monday at 5:00PM. Got new dead mimic within an hour. Used dead mimic Thursday at 1:00AM. Got new wand. Seems "open-and-shut" case to me! --maharito 00:35, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Wands reset at rollover

If you don't blow your wand up in one go it seems that they reset at rollover. I zapped about 5 times over 2 days, and my wand didn't blow up yet. It will blow up if I use it once more today, so I'll try it tomorrow. Can anyone else confirm this? --Exd3ath 13:43, 8 December 2005 (Central Standard Time)

Edit: Confirmed :)

Different Symbol?

It seems to me that the dead mimic object should be '%' rather than 'm'. In NetHack, corpses are consideded food, which are represented by %. Showing it as m implies that it's still alive. Stubblyhead 22:55, 9 December 2005 (Central Standard Time)

  • That would be something to take up with Jick, not the wiki. The wiki brings images over directly from the game. -Zilly 22:57, 9 December 2005 (Central Standard Time)
  • No kidding. The point of the discussion tab is to discuss, no? I just wanted to hear what other people thought about the matter.
  • I would think that since this mimic is a usable item it wouldn't have the symbol for food. --Treefrog 18:00, 20 April 2008 (CDT)

NS-13

I'd heard rumors of being able to replace a destroyed wand after this point. Has anyone tested this yet? --Sparksol 04:12, 27 June 2007 (CDT)

Zap it!

Is there any possible way, short of extreme hacking KoL to zap this, like taking advantage of lag or manually putting in a URL? Just wondering... --Co678 23:51, 25 December 2006 (CST)

No longer a one-time

It seems dead mimic is no longer a one-time drop. When I have a wand of polymorph, I get quite many potions after using dead mimic:

You open the chest. There's all kinds of stuff inside it:

--Laurynasl 15:11, 16 April 2008 (CDT)

Edited to add: I found this as well... with two different dead mimics. Received an assortment of potions per the above as well as a ring of cold resistance and a ring of fire resistance (one ring per mimic it seems)--Djswim 15:16, 16 April 2008 (CDT)

I had both of my dead mimics that i opened today turn up 11 bang potions and 1 ring of fire resistance. perhaps it isnt all that random? or did the RNG feel like messing with me. --LoA 16:51, 18 April 2008 (CDT) it appears to have been messing with me on chest three i got 11 bang potions and a cold resistance ring. --LoA 16:53, 18 April 2008 (CDT)

10 bang potions and one Yendorian ring:

  • You acquire an item: milky potion
  • You acquire an item: fizzy potion
  • You acquire an item: bubbly potion
  • You acquire an item: bubbly potion

  • You acquire an item: swirly potion
  • You acquire an item: fizzy potion
  • You acquire an item: dark potion
  • You acquire an item: cloudy potion
  • You acquire an item: effervescent potion
  • You acquire an item: ring of gain strength

--Pastangum 23:53, 27 April 2008 (CDT)

Since Pastangum got 10, and I got 14:

  • (You acquire an item: effervescent potion
  • You acquire an item: smoky potion
  • You acquire an item: dark potion
  • You acquire an item: fizzy potion
  • You acquire an item: swirly potion
  • You acquire an item: effervescent potion
  • You acquire an item: murky potion
  • You acquire an item: fizzy potion
  • You acquire an item: fizzy potion

  • You acquire an item: effervescent potion
  • You acquire an item: murky potion
  • You acquire an item: effervescent potion
  • You acquire an item: smoky potion
  • You acquire an item: ring of gain strength)

I'm going to increase the range to 10-14: Though I suspect 15 is also possible. --Unnatural20 00:24, 28 April 2008 (CDT)

  • You acquire an item: fizzy potion
  • You acquire an item: swirly potion
  • You acquire an item: dark potion
  • You acquire an item: murky potion
  • You acquire an item: swirly potion
  • You acquire an item: swirly potion
  • You acquire an item: effervescent potion
  • You acquire an item: swirly potion
  • You acquire an item: fizzy potion
  • You acquire an item: murky potion
  • You acquire an item: cloudy potion
  • You acquire an item: dark potion
  • You acquire an item: bubbly potion
  • You acquire an item: ring of conflict

Got 13 potions total, only 7 of the 9 possible types. Now that the mimic has this second use, we should look at the frequency of appearance of the store adventure. Is it just a regular noncombat now (doubtful), or is on a counter? (That would be my guess.) --Prestige 10:53, 28 April 2008 (CDT)

  • I got two in about two or three adventures, so it's probably not a counter. The question to address would seem to be superlikely versus regular. --Bagatelle 16:28, 28 April 2008 (CDT)
  • You acquire an item: murky potion
  • You acquire an item: smoky potion
  • You acquire an item: bubbly potion
  • You acquire an item: smoky potion
  • You acquire an item: murky potion
  • You acquire an item: cloudy potion
  • You acquire an item: effervescent potion
  • You acquire an item: dark potion
  • You acquire an item: milky potion
  • You acquire an item: bubbly potion
  • You acquire an item: bubbly potion
  • You acquire an item: swirly potion
  • You acquire an item: fizzy potion
  • You acquire an item: ring of conflict

I don't know if the number of potions is still being spaded, but the page asks for it. --Chawmp 10:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Ring of Teleportation

Can anyone confirm that it's a possible drop? I've used around 120 mimics total since it's been added, with no luck. --BlanketThief 19:34, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Even so, up to 140 total now with no ring, seems like a bit high for RNG swing --BlanketThief 05:25, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

+7 more, still no luck.--BlanketThief 05:26, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

  • Assuming that each ring has an equal probability of appearing, then there is a 12.5% chance per mimic that you will get a ring of teleportation. Alternatively, there is an 87.5% chance that you will NOT get one. The probability of NOT getting one 147 times in a row is: 0.875^147 = 2.98*10^-9, or 0.000000298%. So yes, I would say that you can safely assume that you cannot get a ring of teleportation from a dead mimic. --MindlessGames 07:05, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

I've actually had it drop from the dead mimic. Not sure why BlanketThief hasn't encountered one yet.--Foggy 14:13, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

  • Perhaps a recent change SNAFU'd it? I've only been using mimics since October or so I would guess. Only other thing I can think of is that it checks to see if you have a ring of teleportation already (Zapped for it) --BlanketThief 16:33, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
    • Edit: Looking at the page history dates, a recent change is probably not the culprit =/

+6 more, still no luck. --BlanketThief 05:21, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, I've quit farming the DoD so I won't exactly be posting any successes (Or more failures) here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BlanketThief (talkcontribs) on 05:49, 5 November 2009

I lied, +18 more (171 total now). No luck. Going to closet the one I zapped for, if anybody has any other suggestions for a possible conditional, feel free to add your input. --BlanketThief 06:28, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

+6 mimic, ring is in display case. No luck. --BlanketThief 16:52, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

+7, no luck. --BlanketThief 05:38, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

+8, no luck. --BlanketThief 17:15, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

  • Just used 11 on a character with now RoT-- nothing yet. I'll be farming up more mimics later and also trying it on a character who's never been in the DoD. --TechSmurf 03:31, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Been away for a few days, +9, no luck. --BlanketThief 03:04, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

+21, no ring. --BlanketThief 01:57, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

+35, no ring. 86 total since closeting the ring, pretty much done with the DoD so I won't be adding anymore data-points. --BlanketThief 06:30, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

+31 more without a ring (Same ascension as previous attempts.) Incase anybody was still interested --BlanketThief 01:10, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
