wonderwall shield
wonderwall shield

This is a shield made from a piece of a wonderwall. You can't see what's so wonderful about it, really -- it doesn't even wail, or anything. By now, you should have somehow realized that a shield made out of bricks and mortar makes you feel just a little more safe and secure; at least, that is, from everything except anthropomorphic pitchers full of colored sugar-water.

References

  • In keeping with the theme of the area, this item earns its name from the single "Wonderwall" by the British band Oasis: "Cos maybe / You're gonna be the one that saves me / And after all / You're my wonderwall.".
The verse "By now, you should have somehow realized..." is part of that song's lyrics, too.
  • The title of the Oasis song is itself a reference to George Harrison's first solo album Wonderwall Music, the soundtrack to the film Wonderwall.
  • "It doesn't even wail, or anything" may refer to the band Wailing Wall (a psychedelic rock band from the '70s) or the Western Wall, a retaining wall in Jerusalem built sometime during the Jewish Second Temple. It is sometimes referred to as the Wailing Wall, as the Jews mourned the destruction of the Temple and many continue to traditionally mourn here.
  • The "anthropomorphic pitchers full of colored sugar-water" are the various incarnations of Kool-Aid Man, who typically entered a commercial for his product by bursting through a brick wall.
