- "Strike that. Reverse it." is a reference to Roald Dahl's 1964 children's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where Willy Wonka occasionally reversed what he meant.
- The gnauga itself refers to Naugahyde and its mascot, Naugahyde itself being pleather. Early Naugahyde marketing included a fictional animal called the "nauga" that was supposedly the natural source of all the naugahyde manufactured.
- "Gnauga, please" is a play on "Nigga Please," the title of a hip-hop album by Ol' Dirty Bastard.
