Fruit basket

I noticed you added a comment and then removed it, claiming it to be a mistake. What was the mistake? Fruit bowl (whose drops probably need to be confirmed) instead of basket? --Quietust 11:19, 28 July 2006 (CDT)

Yes, that's exactly what it was. I didn't even realize there were two different items until that day, when my two fruit bowls dropped absolutely zero TPS fruits. (If you want to take the stats from the aborted wiki edit, they're valid numbers for the fruit bowl. Terribly small sample size, though.) --Greycat 16:57, 29 July 2006 (CDT)

Cost Analysis of Restoring HP and MP

Hmmm, interesting tables. A few comments:

1) You say that MMJ at level 7 is 6.67 meat per MP, however, I show in my table at the top of the page that it actually averages 6.452 meat per MP.

2) What information do these tables give us other than the fact that Lasagna Bandages are better than Tongue of the Walrus with anything between a -1 and -3 MP modifier?

3) Along the lines of (2), you also say:

"The last resort is soda water, available to everyone at any time. Note that when your only source of MP is soda water, it may be cheaper to heal yourself using Doc Galaktik's medicines instead of skills (depending on the skill and the -MP modifier)."

This is only true of Disco Nap and Tongue of the Otter with a -0 MP modifier, and Tongue of the Otter with a -1 MP modifier. If this and (2) are the major new pieces of information being conveyed by these tables, would it be better to just state them in prose? I do appreciate the work you did compiling that information, but it seems like it just clutters the page with a lot of data, most of which is very similar to what is already stated earlier on the page. Would it be better to get rid of all of them and just add a couple paragraphs stating your findings? Part of the problem as I see it is the difficulty in presenting tabular data of MMJ and Cannelloni Cocoon. They just act so differently at different levels that trying to compress them down into a "baseline" does more harm than good.

I definitely think your findings should go into this page, I'm just wondering if there is a better way to state them. -- Turias 16:43, 13 September 2006 (CDT)

I compiled the tables for my own use initially, and then decided that they may be of wider interest. In particular, I think many people would benefit from knowing when Ailment Ointments are the cheapest, and when healing skills are the cheapest.

I found the Cost Analysis page, and decided that since it already covered some of the same ground that I was covering, it would be best to merge my tables into that page, rather than starting a new page for them. You're right, though -- a nice little summary before the tables would be helpful. But I wouldn't want to omit the tables, because they're still important to people who don't have all of the healing skills yet.

I got the 6.67 meat value by rounding down the MMJ's MP restoration to 15, instead of 15.5. That was probably laziness on my part, but I don't remember for sure just why I did that. --Greycat 09:37, 14 September 2006 (CDT)

Black Cat (familiar)

  • what evidence do you have that the black cat disappears from your inventory when you ascend? --Evilkolbot 13:00, 6 August 2008 (CDT)
    • It was stated directly (in /hardcore) by someone who had done so. He acquired the familiar in Bad Moon aftercore, then ascended, and it was gone. Unfortunately, I've now forgotten his name. He's re-acquired it in Bad Moon and is doing a 100% run, though. --Greycat 14:07, 6 August 2008 (CDT)

Hobopolis Loot

By the way, there's already a Category:Dungeon Loot page that lists everything. --Itsatrap 02:38, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

super-spiky hair gel

I reverted your edit adding the effect of the, uh, effect. Right now, standards are to only have them on effect pages. If you want to try and have this changed, there's already a discussion going. --TechSmurf 14:00, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Best Foods

I noticed you changed the Best Foods (with Got Milk) page to show similar information as what's on this page. I was wondering if you had decided to do the changes to the Best Foods page on your own, or if you were just copying what is in the table that I generated. If you're doing it by hand, I would encourage you to not do that, as it's just extra work for you, and likely, the Best Foods/Drinks and their tables will get nuked, in favor of the ones on the Consumables sub-pages. There is a discussion going on about what to do about the Best Foods/Drinks pages. This conversation should probably continue there, so that it's not split out from everything else. Your input is welcome, as you do seem to be genuinely interested in this. Once I get around to it, I'll add level requirements and stat gains for each of the consumables, so that it will be whole, complete, and all in one spot. Not to mention enormous. --MindlessGames 20:40, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, uh...
  • I use the BFWGM(a) page ALL the time. A lot. It's probably the single wiki page I use the most, though SHC and AC and Best drinks give it a good run.
  • Nobody told me the page was going away. Nothing in the "needs spading" box at the top of the page said it's going away. It said "fix me". So I figured I'd fix it.
  • Your Consumables/Food page (which I had never even looked at before) isn't sorted in the way I want the food to be sorted. I can't tell relative food goodnesses just by whether they're higher or lower on the screen.
  • Your page is also much wider than my window -- not that important really since I don't care about any columns after "Milk" -- but it has that whole "overwhelming wall of numbers" feel. Very intimidating.
  • When I saw your note, I finished up the last few food calculations in the area I was in at the time, and stopped. I stopped at bat wing stir-fry. I spot-checked your page for bat wing stir-fry and I notice you don't have the same result I do for adventures gained. Mine is 4.41 (actually 4.407407...) and yours is 4.54. At least one of us is calculating wrong. -Greycat 21:14, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
    • The columns are sortable, the page says as much. Herbs are Q=1.3, Spices are Q=2, Knob Mushrooms are Q=1.3, bat wings are Q=1.4, giving bat wing stir fry Q=6, with S=3, that gives a range of 3-18, the chop is 4, giving an unmodified observed range of 7-14.0. Milk makes the observable values: 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, and then since they're evenly distributed, it's nice and comfortable, the average is 13.875, and adv/size is 4.625. Knob sausage stir fries do the exact same thing. Also, thanks for pointing this food in particular out, because I was miscalculating Q on bat wings to be 1.3, instead of 1.4. --MindlessGames 21:53, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
      • bat wing stir-fry says 6-14 and that's what I used when I calculated it. Not 7-14. Are the individual item pages not the final authority on each item's adventure gain ranges? (Also, what are "Q", "S" and "chop", and are there food items with ranges that are not evenly distributed?) -Greycat 00:02, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Keywords

Have you tried redirecting those keywords to the right articles?--Toffile 15:30, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Antiphon Smash

Out of curiosity, are you sure that will fire? Given that when you smash a monster, no stats or drops are given, but just the paste, how would it even activate?Argus 21:10, 8 September 2011 (CEST)

Yes, I've seen it happen. Several times. Including yesterday, at which point I decided to put it on the wiki, since the behavior was continuing long past the initial IOTM rollout. I got 1/2/1 substats from a stomped monster, with Antiphon running, under a Mysticality moon sign. --Greycat 14:19, 9 September 2011 (CEST)

Oh, another thing I haven't seen mentioned yet -- if you have Yes, Can Has or O Hai running, you'll frequently see INVISIBLE FOO BAR after the stomp, for items that didn't drop. This makes me suspect they implemented the stomping by setting all the item drop rates to 0% and capping the monster's stat gains due to ML at 0. Antiphon must be firing after that. --Greycat 14:21, 9 September 2011 (CEST)

  • I can believe that theory. I had a familiar in a crown of thrones act after a successful tatter today. There are all sorts of these funny little "you'd think it shouldn't happen, but it does" things in the game. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 22:28, 9 September 2011 (CEST)

Basement Diving Guide

Good job on the edits. There are still quite a few tables with lots of numbers for a 5% variance. Are you going to update those? Then maybe we can drop the needs work template. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:35, 23 November 2011 (CET)

I really didn't want to mess with those tables. I'm all done editing the guide for the time being. --Greycat 21:42, 23 November 2011 (CET)

Uploading Images

Please use {{kolimage}} when uploading images... thanks — Cool12309 (talk) 20:20, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Also, is there a Punk Giant and a Punk Rock Giant, or only 1? — Cool12309 (talk) 20:29, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
There's just Punk Rock Giant. Someone else made the "Punk Giant" page and data. They should probably be deleted.
Adding to pages to delete and fixing links. — Cool12309 (talk) 20:39, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

OK, I have no clue what "use this template when uploading images" means. Literally. Where would I put it? It makes no sense at all. None of the pages I am editing have that template on them. They just refer to the image names by filename. Then the wiki software generates a red link. Then when I click the red link, I am taken to an upload page, and I can upload the image, and it all seems to work. I don't have a clue where this template would fit into the puzzle.

If I just put this on my user talk page:

{{kolimage|otherimages/sigils|bosstat.gif}}

yes, right here... but without the nowiki tags... and then hit Preview... I get a web server error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function GetURL() on a non-object in /home/coldfront/domains/kol.coldfront.net/public_html/thekolwiki/extensions/ImageURL.php on line 43

So, I'll just leave the red links until someone who understands this nonsense can fix them, or can document how to fix them.

Texts

I prefer having it like {{battle| text=abc}} Instead of having the bars at the front, and I think we're trying to get everything to use that format. But in either case, don't use enters when there's blank lines in texts, use <br /> (and especially don't revert those to enters...) — Cool12309 (talk) 16:25, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Oh, really. Well, the Established Standard disagrees with you on the placement of the pipes. I haven't found a standard for blank lines vs. <br /> yet. --Greycat (talk) 16:57, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

  • Blank lines imply new paragraphs, and so using them produces a different spacing than you get from <br />s (or <br>s). It is better to use whatever matches the spacing/formatting of the game text, with exceptions where it doesn't work (eg blank lines can mess up some template formatting (eg multiline enchantments in the item template), so in those cases you have to use <br>s). --Fig bucket (talk) 18:19, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
    • To append, it's good practice to use breaks instead of newlines, to make the page when editing look nicer. I think <br /> should be used (as apposed to <br/> or <br>) for more compatibility. Some browser don't support it if it's not working correctly, and the one with the space should almost always work. — Cool12309 (talk) 23:16, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Does this mean I am expected to read the HTML source of every game page to figure out whether they used <p> or <br /> before pasting text? --Greycat (talk) 18:22, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

  • No. I was trying to clarify the distinction, and why there wasn't some standard. Cut-and-paste actually ends up correct in most cases. --Fig bucket (talk) 23:55, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Vanishing big pants

Hello, greycat!

You used the Vanish template here, contradicting what you wrote here. Does breaking the prism remove these or not?--Blargh (talk) 09:57, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

It does not. Just tested. --Greycat (talk) 16:41, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Good.--Blargh (talk) 08:23, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Chateau Mantegna Gift Shop Item IDs

You put a note on the Gift Shop page saying you had no idea how people were getting the item ids. One method is to check the source for the shop.php page. The item id is there as a 'rel' attribute for the table row for that item. --Darkcodelagsniper (talk) 01:07, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
