Todo: use the style of Make-a-Wiki.

The KoL wiki is a standard mediawiki like the well known Wikipedia. If you know how to edit one of them, you know how to edit them all. That said, there are some things to be aware of on this wiki.

The Established Standards page is your source for the accepted rules of how to format a page. You can find out what order to put the sections in, how to use the {{item}} template, how to format a recipe, and many other useful things.

It doesn't cover everything though, and this page is an attempt to fill in some of the holes. Ideally it will have all the basic templates, where basic means "typically used" not "building block" (eg {{click}}); enough examples of KoL Wiki styled tables that new comers can start making them quickly; and maybe KoL Wiki color conventions.

{{item}}
Used to create a standard item page. Unfortunately this template is complex and will not work right without a Data: page, too. See the template page for full documentation. But that said, here's an example for a fictional toast combat item:
 {{item|
  itemid=641|
  descid=931984879|
  desc=What's better than bread? How about burning hot bread?|
  type=combat item|
  autosell=15}}

You lose 23 Cheek.

You lose some Roguishness.
{{useitem}}
What happens when you use an item? This template will format the action. This is a complex template. See the template page for many more examples. Example for the toast combat item:
 {{useitem|
  item=toast|
  text=You throw the insanely hot bread at your foe. The ensuing burns cause 5-10 damage.|
  type=combat}}
Toast.gif
You throw the insanely hot bread at your foe. The ensuing burns cause 5-10 damage.

Let's Make Tables!

Tables use a complex syntax. This is a short cookbook, not a full-fledged explanation. You'll start all tables with {| and stick any whole table settings on that line. Each row in the table will start with |- and you will stick any whole row settings on that line.

Table cells can be headings, which will start with ! or regular which will start with |. After the start you can put settings for the table cell (they are optional), but if you do you need to follow them with a | (for headings and non-headings).

Incidentally, did you know that pink backgrounds (like the Gummy Brains in the table above) typically means benefits Muscle, blue backgrounds for Mysticality, and green goes for Moxie? If not, now you do.
