Description
After reaching level 7, The Council of Loathing will ask you to undefile The Cyrpt in the Nearby Plains.
Tasks
- Clear each zone in The Cyrpt. The details and strategies for doing so are below.
- Kill The Bonerdagon in the Haert of the Cyrpt.
- Return to The Council of Loathing for a reward.
Mechanics
- The Evilometer starts at 200, with 50 for each of the four zones.
- Once evil in a zone is at or below 13, the sub-boss is guaranteed to appear. Its death clears the rest of the evil in that zone (and removes the zone). Getting the evil down to zero without defeating the boss does not clear the zone.
- The four zones are:
- The Defiled Nook contains skleltons, with the giant skeelton mini-boss.
- The Defiled Cranny contains ghuols, with a huge ghuol in charge.
- The Defiled Alcove contains zmobies, and is overseen by a conjoined zmombie.
- The Defiled Niche contains lihcs, commanded by a gargantulihc.
- Each monster kill in a zone reduces the evil in that zone by 1, with the message:
- Your Evilometer emits a single beep. The air in this part of the crypt smells slightly less evil...
- Certain other mechanics in a zone can reduce the evil in that zone:
- Nook: The evil eye drops from monsters there, and reduces evil in the Nook by 3 when used.
- Cranny: The choice adventure there has a choice to kill a swarm of ghuol whelps, which is worth at least 3 evil, and will be worth more with increased Monster Level.
- Alcove: The modern zmobie is worth 5 evil (not sniffable -- see below).
- Niche: The dirty old lihc is worth 3 evil (sniffable).
- There are also other items that decrease evil in the Cyrpt:
- A solid gold rosary decreases evil of all zones by 4-5 when used. (Requires a grimstone mask to obtain in Hardcore.)
- If you've used a bottle of lovebug pheromones, a glowing lovebug of some species will sometimes appear after battle and remove 1 extra evil from that zone.
- Wearing a gravy boat hat decreases evil in the current zone by 1 additional point after every combat win. (This item is a product of a Thanksgarden.)
- After using a Nightmare Fuel, defeating any monster from the crypt will decrease the evil of its respective zone by 2. (This item is a product of SongBoom™ BoomBox and requires 1 spleen per use.)
- Defeating any monster from the crypt with Slay the Dead will decrease evil by 1 additional point. This skill is available when wearing an unwrapped knock-off retro superhero cape (configured to Vampire Slicer trench cape with the washing instructions "Kill Me"), and requires that a Sword is equipped in the mainhand.
- Defeating any monster from the crypt with Fire Extinguisher: Replace the Chill will decrease evil in that zone by 10 points. This skill is available when wearing an Industrial fire extinguisher. Note that this skill can only be used once per ascension.
- In a KOLHS run, a quasireligious sculpture decreases the evil of all zones by 4-5 when used.
- In an Avatar of Sneaky Pete run, if you installed a Ghost Vacuum on your motorcycle, then after each combat in a Cyrpt zone, the evil level in that zone will decrease by one extra point.
- After all four zones are cleared, the Haert of the Cyrpt opens in the center, giving access to The Bonerdagon.
Strategy
- Nook: Increase item drops to increase the chances of getting an evil eye. (It is pickpocketable.)
- Cranny: Boost noncombats to kill more swarms, Boost ML for larger swarms.
- Alcove: The modern zmobie appears more often with +initiative. It isn't affected by sniffing.
- Niche: Sniff the dirty old lihc. Alternatively, banish all of the senile lihc, the slick lihc, and the basic lihc.
Rewards
- In your Quest Log, under completed quests, you will see: "You've undefiled the Cyrpt, and defeated The Bonerdagon. Hip, Hip, Hooray!"
- Many of the monsters you fought inside the Cyrpt (not including modern zmobies, whelp swarms, dirty old lihcs, any of the mini-bosses, nor The Bonerdagon itself) can now be found in The Misspelled Cemetary (Post-Cyrpt).
Council Text
On initial visit:
- Recently, an aura of extreme Spookiness has begun to emanate from within the Cyrpt, near the Misspelled Cemetary. We fear that some horrible monster has taken up residence there, and begun to rile up the local undead.
- Would you be so good as to investigate? This device should help:
You acquire an item: Evilometer
On subsequent visits:
- The Spookiness still emanates from the Cyrpt, Adventurer. See if you can find and destroy the source, and bring us back proof of your conquest.
Upon completion:
- Aha! So the Spookiness was coming from this abominable creature, was it? Well, you have our thanks, Adventurer, for your courageous act of undefilement.
Upon completion, on a Pocket Familiars run:
- "Aha! So the Spookiness was coming from this abominable creature, was it?"
- "Well, I assume so," you say. "Jerry had already killed it by the time I got there."
- "Jerry's that kid's name?" the Councilman asks.
- "Yeah. He's rude as hell."
- "Is that good or bad? I can't keep up with the lingo you kids use these days."
Upon completion, before trivial update on August 14, 2014:
- Aha! So the Spookiness was coming from this abominable creature, was it? Well, you have our thanks, Adventurer, for your courageous act of undefilement.
- Please, allow us to fashion that skull into something a little flashier.
You acquire an item: dragonbone belt buckle
