The Gift Shop

The Gift Shop can be found in Bordertown. Here you can buy assorted gift items, or go into the back room to send someone a package. When you send someone a package, it need not include any items from the gift shop. If someone has multiple packages of the same type, the most recently sent package is opened first.

Welcome to The Gift Shop! You can buy a number of groovy gift items, or head into the back room to send someone a package.

With each Ascension, new gifts and packages become available. Also, while in Ronin or Hardcore, it is possible to send gifts of items that are currently stored in Hagnk's Ancestral Mini-Storage.

Notes

• When wearing Private Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Jacket, all gift shop packages are 50% off. However, the plain brown wrapper and less-than-three-shaped box will not display the price reduction before you send the gift.
• If you attempt to send more than 100 packages that cost less than 500 Meat in one day, the Gift Shop Guy says:

You can't send more than a hundred gift packages a day. Yes, having this limit is stupid, but it's the best solution we can think of to the gift box spamming problem.

• Gorblax, a long-time listener to The Jick Show, has demanded that the owner of the gift shop be given a name every single week for two years. It is for this reason that the "Gift Shop Guy" does not have a name, even when he's encountered on Halloween.
• Until late 2010, during a Bad Moon run, going to the gift shop would take you directly to the back room. The back room still shows the following text, although the store is now accessible:

You walk into the Gift Shop, but there's nobody behind the counter, so you wander into the back room. There's nobody around back here, either, but there's a vending machine full of gift-sending supplies, in case you want to send a gift to somebody.

• Even if you don't yet have access to the Beach, you can enter the Gift Shop with the "/go gift shop" chat command.
• In a Zombie Slayer run, the Gift Shop Guy has fled, but the shop is still open:

The guy that runs the Gift Shop appears to have skipped town, leaving all his merchandise behind. I guess he didn't think a load of stuffed toys would be very useful survival tools. You can't say you disagree with him, but feel obliged to leave your meat in the cash register anyway. It looks like the door to the package room is open, as well, if you can think of someone who is still alive in this hellish zombie apocalypse who might appreciate a present.

• The first sentence of Gift Shop Guy's message changes on Valentine's Day to acknowledge the holiday:

Happy Valentine's Day, and welcome to The Gift Shop!

• Trying to send a gift package with more items in it than the package holds results in the following message:

This town isn't big enough for the both of us. By "town," I mean "package" and by "both of us" I mean "that many items."

• Although Five Finger Discount and Travoltan trousers will provide their 5% discounts to gift shop items, neither sleaze jelly nor Black Day will provide their 10% discounts.

History

• Before NS13, a common strategy for speed ascenders was to use the high autosell value of some gift items to get more meat out of their Hagnk's pulls, much to Jick's annoyance. With NS13, the autosell value of the Gift items was reduced to 5% of their purchase price.
• Was originally located in the Market Square. The Gift Shop was moved to Bordertown during the skeleton invasion.
• In a hidden update on January 8th, 2014, gift packages that cost at least 1,000 Meat do not have the daily limit, mainly for bot use.
  • This was then lowered to 500 Meat two days later after realizing it would take 9 ascensions for bots to utilize this.
