You approach Primary Leftenant Geordi who is messing with a tricorder. "Greetings Sub- Petty, what assistance may I offer?," he asks.
If you haven't taken the tricorder

"Sure, just be careful with it, it's a delicate instrument," Replacement Petty Officer Geordi tells you.
If you are already holding something
You can't figure out how to carry two things, so you put down what you're holding.

Borg scenario
"Well, Admiral, based on the emissions of their ship, I've determined that they are of the Computron race."
"Computrons are a unique race, Sir, a synthesis of organic and technological parts with a hive mind," expounds Replacement Leftenant Geordi.
Cloud scenario
"Well, Admiral, based on the emissions of their ship, I've determined that they are of the Living Cloud race."
"The Living Clouds originated in the Zaxxon nebula and appear to be sentient gaseous clouds," explains First Petty Officer Geordi.
Crystalline scenario
"Well, Sub- Petty, based on the emissions of their ship, I've determined that they are of the Jaden race."
Fourth Ensign Geordi explains, "It would appear that these Jadens maintain their consciousness in a crystalline matrix and move around utilizing an ingenious anti-gravity resonance. The resonance creates an aura of sound around the creatures but slightly out of phase to our hearing."
Emoticon scenario
"Well, Admiral, based on the emissions of their ship, I've determined that they are of the Wordwordwordword race."
"The Wordwordwordword race confounds logic, they appear to be a physical embodiment of their emotions," explains Fourth Leftenant Geordi.
Fourth Leftenant Geordi continues, "Apparently they are also nourished by conversation and emotions. Also, they love to party."
Warrior scenario
"Well, Sub- Petty, based on the emissions of their ship, I've determined that they are of the Waron race."
"We had best be on guard, Sub- Petty," explains Sergeant Second Chief Geordi, "the Warons are a warlike and aggressive species."

"What purpose would that serve, Admiral?"
You explain, "well, humans often consume alcoholic beverages during times of stress to take the edge off."
"I see captain, because death is inevitable, and you are incapable of ignoring your emotions, you stave off your fear of impending doom by altering your though patterns. Unfortunately, I believe that our odds of surviving this situation are at least fifty-eight point one six four three two percent, and thus our doom is not impending, and consuming this alcohol would be illogical. Also, I don't need the neuro-receptor opening effects of the alcohol."

"No, Admiral."
