Redirects

There's some messy redirects; I'll try and hunt them down.

  • Newbiesport™ backpack nobody would type this
  • Talk:The Haiku Dungeon 1 (One time), Talk:The Haiku Dungeon 1, Talk:The Haiku Dungeon 2 (One time) a string of redirects for some reason.
  • Other redirects ending in (One time) or (in disguise). Nobody would bother to type those.
  • I'm sure there's some other redirects that don't make sense.

KOL Traders

  • This is ridiculous. I have seen this Machej's website by clicking on the link in TheKolWiki ads and his prices are absurd. To have the nerve to make an advertisement page on the wiki is grotesque. Nevertheless, it needs to be deleted. --SomeStranger (Talk | Contribs) 07:11, 27 May 2006 (CDT)

that need to be cleaned out. --SomeStranger 20:00, 3 April 2006 (CDT)

  • Are there archival copies of these images somewhere and these are duplicates, or what? Because I think it's interesting when we manage to preserve crazy things like this that only happened once. --jin 21:33, 3 April 2006 (CDT)
  • Those particular images listed above are (rather poor quality) screenshots that somebody took. I downloaded the original images from the site and arranged them in tables on the site-pimp.com page. --Quietust 22:07, 3 April 2006 (CDT)
  • Heh, those rather poor screenshots were taken by me. For some reason it never occured to take the actual images from the site, the current version is much better than the one I created. The other two images not titled "Site" were screenshots taken by two other people that were also low quality. the current contents of the Site-pimp.com page cover everything that was on the site in high quality and hosted on the wiki. --SomeStranger 22:11, 3 April 2006 (CDT)

A bunch of stuff

  • Jabañero-flavored chewing gum should be deleted because it is just a redirect with no point, (who would ever type that in).
  • Moxie Increasors should be deleted because no one in their right mind would make that spelling error. (it is just a redirect)
  • Image:Das Überkühlraum.gif should be deleted as it is not the correct file name (the real one is already uploaded)
  • Image:Kitty the Zmobie Basher.gif is the wrong file name for something that already exists.
  • Image:Nayztameetjoo.gif is also the wrong file name for something that already exists.

Miscellaneous

The People's Army of Loathing Non-notable vanity clan page. Possible re-creation of one that has already been deleted. Only claim to notability is a player in the clan who was the first to find the Trivially Skilled trophy - and that, IMO, doesn't prove notability. --Aardvark (Talk | Contribs) 21:19, 10 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)

'River City' contingent Usergroup of four people in the Ninjapiratezombierobot clan doesn't deserve its own page, I'd think. --Cairnarvon 15:06, 23 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)

Request deletion of the image file Wall1111.gif -- it didn't work, so I uploaded image:Wall1000.gif instead. --Baltar 00:44, 26 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)

Possible dupes

As noted in Talk:Flame-broiled meat blob, Flame-broiled meat blob looks to be a duplicate of Overdone flame-broiled meat blob. Recent adventuring there with a test character seems to confirm this - I got the Overdone flame-broiled meat blob version 3 or 4 times, but never got the Flame-broiled meat blob version. --Gymnosophist 17:49, 3 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

The Haiku Dungeon 5 (One time if not failed) dupes The Haiku Dungeon 5 (One time), which is the page linked from The Haiku Dungeon. —Ffilmar 12:14, 1 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)

Period bug fixed?

I'm not entirely sure, but it seems that the bug with page names ending in periods may have been fixed. Mjolnir Jr. isn't (currently) causing any problems whatsoever - although to be on the safe side, I went ahead and moved it to a name NOT ending in a period. Still, the redirect is working as it should, and links to it aren't considered the same as a link to Mjolnir Jr --Aardvark (Talk | Contribs) 05:07, 30 Sep 2005 (MDT)

  • It still seems to be a problem. I tested it by going to Mjolnir Jr. and hitting BALEET. It baleeted Mjolnir Jr, leaving the one with the period lying around. And, even though in the URL of Mjolnir Jr. it includes the period, the page title does not. It's probably best if we still avoid all use of periods at the end. --jin 11:42, 7 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)

Ice-cold beer (Willer)
  • After to the seperation of Ice-cold beer into two types two clumsy pages (Ice-cold beer (Sir Schlitz), and Ice-cold beer (Willer) were created to cope with the change. The Sir Schlitz one was deleted, but the Ice-cold beer (Willer) page still remains and needs to be deleted as the Ice-cold Willer page serves the job better and I find no need for this page to redirect to the new one as no one would ever search "Ice-cold beer (Willer)".--SomeStranger 05:11, 31 March 2006 (CST)

  • Thought I'd mention this as well, if you go to "list of uploaded images" and search for "jpg" or "png" theres a bunch of files that seem either unrelated to KoL (BikerMan.jpg), or duplicates of already existing gifs (stargarb.JPG). This category needs to go. If anyone feels strongly about keeping the pages individualized, rather than the central chat page, come up with a better category in which to place them (Basics, whatever). Extraneous categories suck. --Snickles 15:53, 8 December 2005 (Central Standard Time)

  • I would suggest putting the content of Chat filters in Chat; chat moderators in Category:Basics; removing chat channels altogether (it's repeated, in more detail, in chat); and remove Vanna from this category (not sure why she was put in here in the first place: Chatbot is in Category:Players, so she can be too). -Zilly 16:07, 8 December 2005 (Central Standard Time)

Category:Classes
  • Dang. I feel like a troll, what with all the notes I toss here. What of category:classes? IMO, I feel that six pages don't make a category, and they all link together at the bottom anyway. Would this category be better off as a seperate page? --Aardvark 03:02, 29 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • We'll get em sorted - one way or another. Or, as the Mikado's Ko-Ko would say,

He's got 'em on the list--he's got 'em on the list

And they'll none of 'em be missed--they'll none of 'em be miss'd!

--Gymnosophist 21:37, 29 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • This category has been listed here for quite a while, with no feedback or consensus to delete it. I suggest we keep this category, and archive this discussion. Thoughts? --Aardvark 01:03, 15 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • I'd like to see it deleted, but have no suggestions for what category could be used in it's stead. If we could get over our prejudice against uncatagorized pages, I'd say just delete the Class category and be done with it. As Snickles observed in Talk:Proposed Standards#Category Talk, "Categories are proving to not be the most useful method of organizing data for a game". Not all Wikis enforce 100% page catagorization. --Gymnosophist 01:55, 15 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • I'm still for 100% page categorization, though. Although I do agree that they aren't the best method of organizing data, they are rather nice to have, and help set up a general map. We could just dump the articles in category:classes into its master category, category:basics. --Aardvark 16:40, 15 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Putting Classes into Basics works for me. Categories are OK as a secondary means of navigation, but we still have plenty of work to do in terms of improving navigation. --Gymnosophist 20:29, 15 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • I went ahead and did the re-categorization. Note, however, that a fairly significant number of pages link to the category (including VisualWiki:Community Portal), as well as the two redirects class and classes --Aardvark 06:53, 13 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Also, if the category is deleted, don't forget category talk:classes. --Aardvark 06:58, 13 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • It cannot be deleted until all the pages that link to it are fixed. Class should get the content of Category:Classes + other stuff and then all those links should be changed to point to Class. Class is currently a redirect to Category:Classes. I'll never delete a page that has other pages directly linking to it ;-) ...and I still am not sure if we have reached a consensus yet ;-) Personally, I don't think Category:Classes was hurting anybody ;-) Maybe it could be split up like Trophy and Category:Trophies, so even though it's there, it's not really in the way. Hmm --JRSiebz 05:17, 15 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Agreed, actually. Personally, I'm becoming rather fond of the category. We probably SHOULD split it up like trophy however... article pages are MUCH better at imparting data than category pages, redirects work like they should... all in all, it's just better, IMO. I'll re-categorize the pages here later. Too tired now. --Aardvark (Talk | Contribs) 05:55, 30 Sep 2005 (MDT)

Player Pages

Lianlin & Mantic are currently blank, and should probably be deleted. Rokitman contains no text but "Rokitman is cool", and it is my opinion that it should probably go, too. AndWOMBAT doesn't really seem to have a purpose to it. --Aardvark 07:23, 11 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • Hmm. Don't know why I didn't think to check it before, but Rokitman actually contains a history. It was apparently vandalized by User:The real rokitman - I've reverted it back to the annoying allcaps version by Rokitman. My opinion on the other pages still stands. --Aardvark (Talk | Contribs) 10:57, 30 Sep 2005 (MDT)

  • Image has now been linked properly (not by me of course), but I am still of the opinion that it should be deleted. I feel it's an abuse of the file upload function. --Aardvark 20:11, 17 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
From the image's talk page:
  • This image is huge, 800 x 600, 128.88 KB, why is it here exactly? --JRSiebz 00:11, 11 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Nothing links here, and it has no relation to KoL. I suggest deleting it. --Pcentella 08:20, 12 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • It was apparently uploaded for use on Stickirick paents of the dragon (another nobody clan page), but the author (Vinco) didn't spell the filename correctly, so it didn't work. --Aardvark 08:56, 12 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • I'm going to delete this file. It IS too huge, and once we move to the new server, bandwidth usage will be a slight bit more of an issue, especially if we start expanding rapidly because the lag will (hopefully) be gone. If we go over X bandwidth, we will have to pay real life money, not meat. We should perhaps consider limit images to either KoL images only and put an arbitrary file-size limit on anything not KoL related. That would take keeping an eye on newly uploaded images, perhaps, and the admins staying on top of things. (Y'all do an excellent job, BTW.) --~~

  • We can delete Mall of Loathing as I've moved all it's content to the correctly named The Mall of Loathing (which had been incorrectly used as a redirect page). --Gymnosophist 19:20, 4 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Admittedly, there's really no harm in making it a redirect page, on the other hand, there's not really any benefit to having it either, and it's tidier to get rid of it.
  • Wow, as I previewed this, I noticed that Mall of Loathing is already a dead link. I guess that clearing all content from a page and saving is equilivent to deleting the page. The history is gone too. Interesting... --Gymnosophist 11:58, 5 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Orcish Frat House and Orcish Frat House (delete) need to be deleted. I'm trying to move The Orcish Frat House to Orcish Frat House but the Wiki won't allow it as that page name already exists. Orcish Frat House (delete) was created in an uncessful attempt to free up Orcish Frat House. The correct KOL name is Orcish Frat House, but all the Wiki content was placed in The Orcish Frat House and Orcish Frat House was incorrectly used as a redirect to The Orcish Frat House. It's a tangled mess, but deleting Orcish Frat House should prove to be the solution to this Gordian Knot. Thanks--Gymnosophist 00:39, 15 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Rare Items

  • I never created a template for whips, which is why it's still "full". I probably won't get to that tonight. As for custom items, the data on the custom item page is also on the rare page, which makes me feel it is redundant. The category? It was down to two items, and somebody re-added all of the pages (le sigh). There is currently a handful of pages that link to custom item, although I do feel they would probably be better suited linking to the custom items section of the rare page, especially if that page was re-formatted. Maybe moved, as well; I feel it should be Rare Items, rather than simply rare. --Aardvark 00:58, 2 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • Template:Catredirect I created this template in hopes of standardizing the "category redirect" pages and simplify the process, but it turned out not to work. Unless somebody else can figure out a way to click in the text to refresh the page with the categories listed, this template should probably be deleted. Or instead of it saying "click here" it could be switched to a generic "click the category tab". It's up to you. The only page I attempted to implement the template on was Category:Accessories, so if this is deleted that will have to be reverted. --TheDotGamer 13:07, 30 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

To delete/edit/move pages ending with periods, you need to play with the URL, like so: http://kol.thraeryn.org/w/index.php?title=The_Shore,_Inc.&action=delete . It's a massive pain in the ass, of course, but it should work to get rid of those obnoxious pages. Categories

For deletion in the near future, barring good argument: Category:Sporks, Category:Umbrellas, Category:Whips, Category:Saucepans, Category:Clubs, Category:Clan Stuff, Category:Clan Military Resources, Category:Axes Category:Accordions, Category:Containers. Making a category for the sake of making a category is not a good practice. --Snickles 20:25, 17 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • I stuck the Clan Military Resources stuff into the Clan Stuff category (which I think I created a few days back, but can't remember) just because it's all related clan info stuff. I don't see too much of a 'point' to the category, but I also don't want too many uncategorized pages floating around out there, and those pages don't fit into many other categories. Categories are a pretty easy way to get to some pages that might not be linked in to anything else. I do think we need to get rid of the Clans page soon and make sure all the listed clans are on the :Category:Clans listing. Same thing with the Players, and Category:Player. --jin 17:07, 18 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • That will seriously muck up the orphaned pages listing. Although, I don't really have a solution for the issue, since Clan and Player pages are better served through the use of categories. --Snickles 21:13, 18 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Then, perhaps we'll all just have to be orphaned. Maintaining pages that list all the players and clans is becoming a problem. Besides, if these pages are categorized and linked into from there, then they're not -really- orphaned. --jin 21:33, 18 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Perhaps there is an internal setting of some sort that will force the wiki to recognize links from category pages. As above, I agree that category pages are better for tracking players and clans. --Snickles 21:41, 18 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • I'm working on switching a few of those useless categories to templates. I've already done one for category:Custom Items and category:containers. They should both be empty now, or close to it. --Aardvark 06:34, 26 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

The problem was that there were two types of stuff mixed in the original Mxx Increasers catagories - stuff that increases your base stat gains and stuff that gives you substat gains. I've taken care of all the base stat stuff, but the substat gains stuff is a separate project that's on my list. The only things left in the old categories is the substat stuff. --Gymnosophist 21:37, 29 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

All content (which is a whole sentence) in Monsieur Bob -- teh asstended version could just be put in Monsieur Bob. Either The Helper of Newbies or Helper of Newbies... One or the other is redundant, most likely the former. --Snickles 18:39, 11 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • taken care of much earlier, but just now remembered to archive it. --jin 02:39, 12 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Category:Hmoker - Clans don't need categories. --Snickles 13:09, 12 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

The_Shore, Inc -- There seem to be two pages that VKOL has difficulty distinguishing between. One or both should be removed. --Snickles 21:25, 13 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • I've edited The_Shore, Inc so it doesn't think there's another page called The_Shore, Inc. THe period seemed to cause some problems for the filename, I guess. Is there another Shore page somewhere that needs to go byebye? --jin 22:47, 13 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • I think so... Check out Category:Locations. Two Shores. Editing one seems to edit them both. --Snickles 22:52, 13 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • That's just fucked up. It's gonna take either some URL manipulation, or some database editing to get rid of taht one with the period on it... This'll take some time.... In the future, let's remember never to put a period on the end of a page name. --jin 23:49, 13 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Strange. I left it alone for a while, chatted a bit, read the forums, went back to it, and the problem was fixed. Then I just recreated a new page for "The Shore, Inc".... So, let's hope this problem doesn't come back, because I'm not sure how we made it go away... --jin 00:27, 14 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Abominable Snowcone -- Duplicate; correct format is "snowcone" --Snickles 23:58, 15 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Angry Farmer Candy -- Same as snowcone. Correct is Angry Farmer candy. --Snickles 00:13, 16 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Awful Poetry Journal -- Same as above. Correct title is awful poetry journal. (And it doesn't give Rainy Soul Miasma.) --Yendor 10:12, 16 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • I believe these last three pages (and a few others that I deleted before it was requested) were created by The Phearsome Phantom, and while he's had great ideas for VKoL in the past, needs to learn a bit more about Wiki before "contributing" again... --jin 11:04, 16 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Buggsalt - This page (thanks to Yawgm8th) appears in three categories, yet has no actual information. I really don't like that guy. --Thræryn 19:24, 12 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Category:NPC Buy - Redundant category... --Snickles 14:53, 13 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • What is this category redundant with? --jin 22:47, 13 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • It seemed to me that there was overlap with the NPC Store category. Although, um, yeah, I see the difference. Blame it on the rain. --Snickles 18:30, 14 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

S.O.C.K or S.O.C.K. --Snickles 09:52, 20 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • Damnit. Here we go again. When there are two identical pages and one has a period on the end, it's impossible (as far as I've found) to delete one without deleting the other.......... DO NOT END A PAGE NAME WITH A PERIOD! --jin 11:04, 20 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Strange. Somehow I -was- able to delete one. Wish I could figure that mess out with the shore like that. --jin 11:10, 20 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Is it possible to just delete both, and recreate *only* the correct one? --Snickles 12:21, 20 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Mr. Eh -- Yiab beat me to it... --Snickles 23:28, 24 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Iron liver is an improper Liver of Steel --Snickles 15:46, 26 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Grr. Mysterious Island of Mystery and Obligatory Pirate's Cove for redundency -- Add "The" for correct pages. --Snickles 22:14, 27 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • I've redirected (I think, or else I'm going to) Mysterious Island of Mystery to The Mysterious Island of Mystery. However, on the pirate's cove: Obligatory Pirate's Cove is a redirect FROM The Obligatory Pirate's Cove. How do we want to handle that? Move it to the "correct" wording with The or leave it as a redirect? And how do we consolidate the data that's on the two Mysterious Island pages? I'm a bit confuzzled at the moment, but will figure it out soon enough... But what about that pirate's cove? --jin 22:53, 27 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
    • Geez, I looked at both pages and totally missed the obvious fact that they were THE SAME. ;) I vote move to "the" because I'm a consistency fiend, and either redirect the other or delete it entirely. In reality, are there any circumstances which would cause a redirect from "Obligatory Pirate's Cove" other than someone typing in that exact string into the search box? --Snickles 23:05, 27 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
      • If there is already an existing link to it, then we don't have to go back through and change it. It'll simply redirect. Or if someone creates a new page and mistakenly links to the wrong page they won't think it's missing content and try to add another page about it. --jin 23:07, 27 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Villa's Philanthropists -- I don't even know what this is. And Rowanthorn, unless someone intends to do something with it. --Snickles 22:28, 27 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
