Capitalization

Would it be possible to add an optional flag to capitalize the first letter of the plural? I'd like to have the luxury of being able to use the template at the start of a sentence. --Flargen 23:37, 23 April 2008 (CDT)

• Couple of years later and I still see a need for this. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:12, 16 February 2012 (CET)
• I think the problem, at least back when I first requested this, was that it was impossible for mediawiki to do this. I do not know if our current installation can do something like this or not. --Flargen 21:03, 16 February 2012 (CET)
• Not sure about mediawiki. I did a quick test of CSS's ":first-letter" combined with a "text-transform: capitalize", but it only works for block elements (eg
), not inline (eg ). Harumph. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 22:18, 16 February 2012 (CET)

Bold text

• When did this start bolding the text of the plural? is that a good idea? --Evilkolbot 06:16, 7 June 2008 (CDT)
• If you're referring to this, the page is self-linking, which the Wiki software renders as bold. --Bagatelle 11:14, 7 June 2008 (CDT)
• i'm not keen on the random bolding. it's inevitable, though, that we'll sometimes need to use a plural on the page itself. self-linking's not good, is there some way to make the template not use a link if it's already on the page? --Evilkolbot 06:58, 9 June 2008 (CDT)
• You could just type out the plural normally, or just use "handfuls of sand" in this case to make it clear what's being talked about. I had thought that {{Data2}} could work, but a test edit shows it doesn't appear to. --Ryo Sangnoir 08:05, 9 June 2008 (CDT)
• That's because {{Data2}} is for combats and locations (since those data pages were initially designed to be formatted directly into infoboxes) - for items and effects, you use {{Data1}}. --Quietust (t|c) 08:45, 9 June 2008 (CDT)
