Monster Manuel

The question we must be asking ourselves is this: Does it have factoids? And, if so, how can we get them? --KingBobson (talk) 02:12, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

That depends on the monster's health. If it's 99999999 or something similar, we cannot get whatever factoids it may or may not have. If it has a reasonable health value, then that depends on another factor. Funkslinging dual cans of sterno every round for 30 rounds gives an expected 930 damage. Obviously, you'd debuff monster level to its minimum of -115, so it would have to have 1044 health (or less) for this to work. It also depends on how the the monster's damage reduction interacts with the shard of double-ice -- if you can make each can of sterno do 2 damage instead of 1, you can bring total damage dealt up to 1800 over 30 rounds. --Cannonfire40 (talk) 03:29, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

  • Detective skull: 997591 HP. So that's a no-go.--Ryo_Sangnoir (talk) 13:50, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

The monster is unstompable. I couldn't test YR, and forgot to try AFUE scroll. Any other instant-kill mechanics to try? --Axaca (talk) 01:15, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

There's always The Bomb, and if it turns out it's beast instead of fish (the only two that could be reasonably expected) then bobcat grenade, but I highly doubt that any of those will work. Of course, they could have forgotten to make it immune to percentage-of-health attacks (like the elven whittling knife), which would allow it to be killed by a similar method to tower monsters, but that's even more unlikely. Still, no harm in trying, is there? --KingBobson (talk) 20:26, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Yellow ray doesn't work. I need to grab the text for the pulled yellow taffy page, but it reacted as if it's a boss -- no use possible. --Stormfox (talk) 13:52, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
We can use the tongue depressor. Somebody1234 (talk) 07:10, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

I know it's been a while, but have pufferfish spines already been tried? --Sparksol (t|c) 06:52, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

  • i just tried. 1 damage throughout. --Evilkolbot (talk) 20:04, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Initiative

I just lost the jump with +550% initiative (including the pressure penalty and a 10% reduction of said from swim fins). I don't remember these having infinite initiative before. Has anyone gotten the jump on one? Recently, in particular. --Flargen (talk) 16:46, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Initiative Bonus Once Tamed

(Stupid above section, stealing my name D:<)

This apparently does NOT provide an initiative bonus to running away. The following numbers include the zone penalty (since Mafia auto-includes that).

  1. Against the magic dragonfish (50 init), I can't run away with -50 init, but I can run away with -45.
  2. Against the bazookafish and clubfish (100 init), I can't run away with +0 init, but I can run away with +5 init.
  3. Against the pumped-up bass and school of wizardfish (100 init, but with a different sea penalty), I can't run away with +0 init, but I can run away with +5 init.

I'm not sure if this is a bug. --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 02:45, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

  • I will note that the penalties mafia has for the Mer-kin deepcity zones are probably wrong. Which is my fault. Seems an odd confluence of coincidences lead me to an incorrect observation. I've not returned to the deepcity since I suspected I made this error, but I'm fairly sure the value of -150% mafia originally had is correct. Still not sure where that came from, but I think it was done correctly now. That wouldn't affect any of the monsters you are looking at. Also, I'm pretty sure your data all suggests that the seahorse provides +100% initiative in the sea, independent of pressure penalty. --Flargen (talk) 02:56, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
  • It came from http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php?title=Underwater_adventuring&oldid=537243 when KingBobson and I spaded it. I can assure you, it IS -150%. At 149% meat drops, you get the "murky depths" message when receiving meat, but you don't at +150%.--Cannonfire40 (talk) 17:17, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
    • Yeah, the weird thing is that I'd used meat drops to check it, too, and didn't get anything until I exceeded +200%. Not sure why. Did you guys check meat drops/pressure in the colosseum? I think that's where I did things. That link you provide doesn't contain any spading information or discussion. --Flargen (talk) 01:44, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
      • Okay, I just checked. What I'm getting is *super* strange. In all four zones, with enough trials, my stuff is super screwy. As follows (These are results from every zone, as they all behaved the same, including the colosseum): With +145% meat, no murky depths message. With +151% No murky depths message a majority of the time. I didn't record numbers (stupid, stupid, stupid), but it wasn't monster based, either. I recorded a murky depths message at +159% meat drops, but not one at +157% when using a love song for decrementing +meat test (Nothing else changed, not even monster type). This is really bizarre. Ideas? (My meat drops were +15 BRC, +15 cane mail shirt, +25% uncle hobo's belt, +40% from dual ascots, +40% from a begsign, +10% from "So you can work more", and +6% from a flask of porquoise juice.--Cannonfire40 (talk) 02:25, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
        • The problem is probably the fact that most of the monsters have a meat drop under 100 (closer to 50 in most cases). With a net of -99% meat drops, that means you get less than 1 meat, and the game rounds that down to zero. I think that's one of the things that made me think it was -200% originally. --Flargen (talk) 02:45, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Frequency

Does this monster have a set frequency at which it appears? I used banishers on all the other monsters in the zone, and am just getting tumbleweeds. Didn't see anything about this on the page. --Mansho (talk) 03:26, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

I think it just has delay(). PsyMar (talk) 21:46, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Might have a relationship with encounter rate. With -20% encounter rate, I used about 70 turns. As soon as I switched to +15% encounter rate, the seahorse appeared immediately. Had something similar happen a previous time. Could be coincidence, needs spading. --Quax (talk) 16:28, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

Let's spade it:

  • didn't appear after ~70 adventures with -20% encounter rate, appeared immediately after switching to +15% encounter rate.
  • 7 adventures with +15% encounter rate Quax (talk)
  • 1 adventure with +15% encounter rate Quax (talk)
  • 7 adventures with +11% encounter rate Quax (talk)
  • 7 adventures with +15% encounter rate Quax (talk) 20:47, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
  • 4 adventures with +10% encounter rate Quax (talk) 23:57, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
  • ~25 adventures with ~0% average encounter rate Quax (talk) 21:22, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
  • 14 adventures with +15-20% encounter rate Quax (talk)

Tongue depressor

In case there is anything to be learned still: Screenshot of tongue depressor use. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 18:20, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Using depressor gives: 514 attack, 540009 defense and 1000015 HP with +15ML and 4 "reduce defense by 10%" equipment. The true value of defense is likely to be 900000. --Wpolly (talk) 09:29, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Visible Stats?

The last few times I've bumped into the seahorse, I've been able to see its stats from the get-go. I'm pretty sure I have nothing that should be making them visible (as other un-manuealed monsters have no stats). Is anyone else getting this? --Fyll (talk) 20:09, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

  • I think there was a stealth update sometime after the Snojo came out, so you automatically see the stats of monsters without factoids. You can see the same with The Hermit. —Yendor (talk) 02:50, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Taming

Evidently successful taming is considered a (non-free) runaway. My BittyCar MeatCar was active, and upon taming I got "In your hurry to get away, you drop all the Meat you gained during the fight!" --Baltar (talk) 19:26, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
