Bird

After using birdform twice without using the attack skills exclusively, welcome back gave me nothing. After using talon slash exclusively, I got the roc feather with this message: The llama looks deep into your eyes, assessing you.

"You exhibited the spirit of the mighty roc, learning that there is no problem that the judicious application of the tools at hand cannot solve. The tools at hand in this case were all violence, but it is a valuable lesson nonetheless." You acquire an item: glimmering roc feather .--Keynes 09:21, 1 June 2008 (CDT)

I have now tried to buffet, then beak (so that the numbers of buffets and beaks are equal) every fight. This ends in a roc feather. I have also tried alternating between you-eye view and buffet, followed up with talons. That yields a ton of shimmering moths and juicy grubs but still ends in a roc feather. At this point, I have no idea how to end at anything other than a roc feather, so an obtaining method on this page or the feather pages would be helpful from those of you who have managed to somehow get the other feather types. --Wackoon 01:55, 2 June 2008 (CDT)

At the end of the bird form, i got no reward when i choose to talk to the hand even though i used the bird skills and etc.--Tofu 02:53, 2 June 2008 (CDT)

I just spent every adventure with no clothing or items on, each one i looked for shiney objects then flew high and then did the wing buffet. not once did i attack. I let my Misshapen Animal Skeleton do all the killing for me. I still got a Roc Feather, with the exact same message as above.--Faded ant 04:18, 2 June 2008 (CDT)

I think getting feathers other than the Roc Feather relies on using the elemental Bug-eating skills a lot. I'd wager at least 3 times, as doing it just once didn't cut it. Roc Feathers come from using Talon Slash and Wing Buffet a lot. Flying and Shiny Objecting don't help it.

It doesn't seem to require using *exclusively* bird attacks - I got a roc feather despite using a couple of standard attacks. Perhaps it requires using at least some number of bird attacks? Maybe 10 or 15? (I used multiple talon slashes in some combats, so it was over 15 even with normal attacks.) --RavenBlack 06:18, 2 June 2008 (CDT)

Maybe using the elemental attacks from the insects gives you the feather of the matching element? This is also supported by the Roc Feather message ("learning that there is no problem that the judicious application of the tools at hand cannot solve") which suggests that, to receive the Roc Feather, you have to use only the tools(skills) at hand without using anything else(extra skills from the bugs). Does anyone have the messages for receiving one of the elemental feathers? It might have further evidence of this. --Reapaninja 06:42, 2 June 2008 (CDT)
You have to eat 5 of the relevant elemental bug and use the related skill at least 5 times whilst you are a bird. It didn't work after eating only 4 bugs / using the skill 4 times, but did with 5. --The duke of doi tung 07:06, 2 June 2008 (CDT)
If you use 5 of one of the bug skills and then 5 of another (e.g., 5 Rise From Your Ashes and then 5 Feast on Carrion), you receive the reward relevant to whichever skill you used second (so, in the previous example, you would receive a raven feather instead of a phoenix feather).--ClockworkHouse 12:09, 2 June 2008 (CDT)

Confirm: I used 12 Stink bugs, used "The Statue Treatment" 12 times, and got a Buzzard Feather as a reward. --Tiwaz 17:15, 2 June 2008 (CDT)

Using You-eyed View 15 times and nothing else other than beak attacks gave me nothing. —Yendor 07:08, 5 June 2008 (CDT)

Possible issue with using Bird Form in places like the Tavern Cellar. I didn't get my welcome back screen when adventuring in there, so overdrank (used my 16th adventure, expecting the Llama to appear to me) and got it when trying for a drunken stupor instead. Have reported as a bug. Anyone else found any issues with it? Blindingphil 21:20, 22 June 2008 (CDT)

Cockroach

I went 1-2-2-2-1 or written; Approach the roach, Find a hiding place, Scuttle towards the the woman, Keep dodging, Talk to the LLama and got this text:

The llama regards you serenely. "So," he says, "you have lived the nasty, brutish, and short life of a cockroach. Let us see what you have learned." He rolls his eyes back into his head for a minute, then looks deep into your eyes.

"I see you have died by taking your own life! I am sure that practically anyone you met as a cockroach would have spared you the trouble. I hope that you have a deeper sense of your own self worth, a more resilient spirit, and a better understanding of the universe to help you in this life."

Again, went 1-2-2-3-1 and got:
The llama regards you serenely. "So," he says, "you have lived the nasty, brutish, and short life of a cockroach. Let us see what you have learned." He rolls his eyes back into his head for a minute, then looks deep into your eyes.
"I see you have died by ingesting poison! I hope you have learned the mysterious workings of chemicals and how they can heal or hurt you."

And 1-2-2-1-1 and got:
The llama regards you serenely. "So," he says, "you have lived the nasty, brutish, and short life of a cockroach. Let us see what you have learned." He rolls his eyes back into his head for a minute, then looks deep into your eyes.
"I see you have died from being crushed, your fingers to dust! I trust that in this life, you will be more observant of your surroundings."

-- NitraMo TT 11:29, 1 June 2008 (CDT)
1-2-2-1-2 gave me Extra Sensory Perception, so on that one last choice didn't matter. Also 1-2-2-3-2 gave me Alchemical, Brother, which is same as 1-2-2-3-1. Based on that small data sample I would say last choice doesn't matter.-- NitraMo TT 17:20, 1 June 2008 (CDT)
Using this convention, 1-1-1-1-2 (do we know yet if talking to Llama/hand makes a difference?) gives

1-1-1-3-1 gives

Also, according to their respective effect pages (so not confirmed by me), 1-2-3-3-? and 1-3-2-3-? gave Extra Sensory Perception, and 1-2-1-2-? gave Unpopular. --Australopithecus 14:49, 1 June 2008 (CDT)
Additionally, StorellaDeville reports that 1-1-2-2 gives New and Improved --Australopithecus 23:17, 1 June 2008 (CDT)

Make a move choice...

"I see you have died by taking your own life! I am sure that practically anyone you met as a cockroach would have spared you the trouble. I hope that you have a deeper sense of your own self worth, a more resilient spirit, and a better understanding of the universe to help you in this life."

Toward the noise, catch up on reading, classic literature

"I see you have died by falling into a trap! I trust you have learned that even the cockroach, the most hardy of creatures, is fragile at heart."

You have acquired an effect: Ack! Barred! (20 adventures) --Foggy 12:21, 1 June 2008 (CDT)

Ok, I can't be the only one seeing the numerous Star Wars references. --Devion 12:50, 1 June 2008 (CDT)

  • You're not. --CG1:t,c,e 13:09, 1 June 2008 (CDT)

To Hand, or not to Hand

It doesn't seem to matter if you choose to talk to the Llama or the Hand. --TechSmurf 21:24, 1 June 2008 (CDT)

Different text

I'm pretty sure that the text when I got this adventure was different, something about the it being weird that you saw your llama because you left your llama in the terrarium. Can't remember specifics. Maybe this has to do with whether you have one or not. --Mudman 21:40, 1 June 2008 (CDT)

  • While I had my Llama in my terrarium I got this text: You hear a voice right by your ear say, "Mud MAN39 . . . use the Force, Mud MAN39." You look over and see your llama lama, floating translucent just to the left of your head.

Which is weird, because you'd swear you left him in your terrarium. You hope your other familiars don't draw on him with a marker while he's astral projecting.--Mudman 00:18, 2 June 2008 (CDT)

  • So noted, but this raises the question: what happens if you don't have a Llama at all (ie got a gong from the mall)? Can anyone check this? --Australopithecus 01:10, 2 June 2008 (CDT)
You get the same message as when it's in your terrarium. --Missim 04:24, 2 June 2008 (CDT)

Priority?

I'm unsure if this is common knowledge or not, if you Adventure in the Cobb's Knob kitchen(any of the three areas?) acquiring the Cobb's Knob lab key can come up between the 15th adventure of form of... a bird! and the adventure Welcome back!. (note this doesn't use up an adventure) Welcome back! functions normally after the key comes up much like adventuring in the barrel full of barrels and such. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Quabarrick (talkcontribs)

  • Yeah, that makes sense, since the lab key is some kind of special exception and not a regular adventure... it's not even a superlikely, I believe. By the way, please sign your posts on talk pages. --Prestige 02:36, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, it would appear that - like the rat faucet - you need to have an adventure left to get this. I see it works if you're drunk though.--Dessalvara 16:17, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

I just got jumped by a Mob Penguin hitman in place of a scheduled Welcome Back, so it looks like wandering monsters have priority. Is this worth putting on this or some other page? --Johnny Treehugger 17:18, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

What if you have no Llama Lama?

What happens if one uses birdform with a purchased gong, not having a Llama at all? Does this adventure still occur? Are its contents the same? --Eitheladar 12:01, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes and yes. I found it great, when it referred to "my" Llama Lama being in my terrarium. --Azeltir 14:23, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
D'oh, someone already asked and answered this a month ago. Thanks, Azeltir. Must improve my reading skills. --Eitheladar 05:48, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
