Rhinestone-studded: Urban Cowboy?
Racecar in the red: Grease?
--MC Scared of Bees 23:26, 31 August 2006 (CDT)

"race car in the red" is a reference to Pulp Fiction. --Gezmo 00:00, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

Hardcore

The item (when seen in Mr. Store) doesn't have a note about not being useable in hardcore (which the iceberglet had). Has anyone tested if it is useable in hardcore? -- NitraMo SA TT 00:28, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

It has the note now. --Emtu 00:30, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

Colbert Report?

This is probably a misreference, but the uncermonious throwing on of Battlefield Earth at the end may be a parody of Stephen Colbert's parody of Entertainment Tonight. In the Colbert clip, he talks about Tom Cruise by using a series of movies that Tom Cruise has been in ("Don't keep your eyes wide shut, etc."), a method that the design team has used many times (such as the new Snow Queen), but at the end, after a beat, he just says, "Vanilla Sky," having found no way to fit it into his puntastic speech. We see the same thing here, many references to Travolta movies weaved into the description, with an uncermonious "Battlefield Earth" just thrown at the end. Just observing. --Taquelli 07:13, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

The last part about Battlefield Earth made me think about that Colbert episode as well, considering his story and this item have numerous similiarties. --Kuno 09:12, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

I would say its a deffenate refrence given that Cruise and Travolta are both famous Scientologest actors. You can watch the clip here http://www.comedycentral.com/sitewide/media_player/play.jhtml?itemId=73149 --Error1 17:52, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

Jick confirmed that he got the pattern of the joke from the Colbert Report on a recent radio show (Nov. 13, I think). --Reddening 06:41, 26 November 2006 (CST)

Ranged Damage Bonus

This is the first time I've seen an item with a Ranged Damage bonus. Does this suggest that Melee Damage bonuses don't add to ranged weapon damage, or perhaps that it simply clarifies that the damage isn't applied to melee weapons? I don't see any other wiki files describing this (including files about game mechanics and such). --Nifty Nobu 12:08, 2 September 2006 (CDT)

  • From my understanding as of the moment, +melee damage adds to ranged or melee though +ranged damage only adds to ranged attacks. Who knows this might be an oddity or heralding in a new era in division of +damage mods for items.--Practitioner of Saucy Arts 21:58, 2 September 2006 (CDT)

Outfit stores

  • these trousers probably do work at the stores that need an outfit, you just can't go there with them on. and, since there's no way of finding out whether they do, perhaps the note should be changed to reflect this. --Evilkolbot 06:23, 3 September 2006 (CDT)
    • Thought: are there any store-required outfits which do not include Pants?--Bork 13:30, 3 September 2006 (CDT)
    • theoratically, URL manipulation could work, so we could know.--El taco 21:00, 3 November 2007 (CDT)
    • How do you think that could work? I do URL manipulation regularlly, but if you don't have the outfit on, you don't get into the store, you just get the regular error message. Example: put on hippy outfit, go to store. Regular prices. Put on trousers via a form, then try to buy some herbs.
Market Results:
Only Hippies can shop here, man.
Followed by the "slave to society" message. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:18, 5 November 2007 (CST)

Potential Bug

Seem to me there is no real reason to have this information on the page, we don't list potential bugs for the countless other items that have them or had them. Similarly it seems like it has no real historical signifigance.--Practitioner of Saucy Arts 23:17, 3 September 2006 (CDT)

  • Oh, come on now; it's interesting. That seems to be sufficient justification for me. --Tim teh pwner 07:01, 4 September 2006 (CDT)
    • Its also page clutter and as I said the wiki doesn't list everything that is vaguely interesting. I mean sure a note about what the stinking evils are or custom items, or heck maybe even a note on the meat vortex I get but why include this it obviously hasn't affected anyone.--Practitioner of Saucy Arts 08:11, 4 September 2006 (CDT)
      • Fair enough, I take your point. Maybe best relegated to the discussion page. --Tim teh pwner 06:18, 5 September 2006 (CDT)
        • Another option if your up to it is to write a feature article say on bugs, or infinite meat, or something like that and include the info there with a simple link to the trousers.--Practitioner of Saucy Arts 11:19, 5 September 2006 (CDT)
          • I'd second this as a good idea, actually.--Bork 16:41, 5 September 2006 (CDT)

Complete List of "Stores"?

For the sake of clarity, maybe we should make a full list of all "stores" and how the discount operates there. Some things are unclear, and others that you would think would give a discount don't. Some problematic locations are as follows:

--Gymnosophist 19:32, 5 September 2006 (CDT)

  • Looking at that list, it might be easier just to list the places you do get a discount in, rather than the ones you don't get the discount :) --Nifty Nobu 08:11, 6 September 2006 (CDT)
    • You're kind of missing the point. Yes, it might be easier to list just the places that give a discount, but it doesn't help someone who is wondering if, say, The Gnomish Micromicrobrewery is somehow missing from the list or if it in fact doesn't give a discount. --Gymnosophist 21:31, 6 September 2006 (CDT)

Of course, we could just list all the places you do get a discount in, and note that these are the only places that give discounts, and nowhere else. Less clutter and a shorter list to peruse in search of a lack of your store name. --Shokwave 06:02, 18 September 2006 (CDT)

Black Market

Anyone been able to test this on The Black Market? 25,000 would be decent savings on the familiar. --rholliday 04:10, 29 June 2007 (CDT)

  • I just checked - yes they do work there!--Grimdel 04:12, 30 June 2007 (CDT)

Accordion Thief Skill

Does the "5-finger discount" offered by this item stack with the Five Finger Discount accordion thief skill? --Taltamir (talk) 06:17, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

according to Talk:Five_Finger_Discount it does stack. But no mention of how. Does it stack to a discount of 10%, or does it stack to a discount of price * 0.95 * 0.95 --Taltamir (talk) 21:16, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Just tested it, it adds together for a 10% discount. --Gumpy13 (talk) 15:20, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
