Talk:The Marmot

I just got a clover from a combat in the cove. Three turns after that, I got one from a noncombat in that area. Those are two of three total clover drops I've had over 1230 turns this ascension.--Deathprog23 13:30, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Changed "monster fights" to "adventures", as experience as a Marmot shows that clovers can be found after adventures such as the Haiku dungeon ones, which have no monster encounters. --Hubert rawlinson 04:05, 4 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

I've been using my own Marmot run to gather some more data on this. So far, I've only ever seen clovers drop in areas which give special clover-consuming adventures, such as The Haiku Dungeon and The Hidden Temple. However, not all areas which yield clover adventures seem to also yield clovers. I've spent several adventures in the Kitchens, for example, without ever seeing one, whereas people have found them in the Spooky Forest. --Hubert rawlinson 04:16, 8 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Clovers only show up after non-battle adventures. I do believe that their drop frequency may be based on other factors (moons?), but further testing needs to be done.--Aardvark 04:20, 8 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

I found a clover after a battle in the Spooky Forest.Shaventalz 15:28, 16 Oct 2005 (MDT)

Another Marmot run for me, and I've finally found a clover in an area that doesn't yield clover adventures, namely Whitey's Grove. So that's that theory disproved, anyway. --Hubert rawlinson 02:38, 8 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

I found four clovers in less than 30 adventures in the Dungeons of Doom yesterday. --Digger t rock 23:32, 11 Jan 2006 (MST)

Any thoughts on whether the clover drop frequency has been severely nerfed? I'm in my second HCNP ascension, first time with the Marmot, and haven't received a single clover in 400 adventures. --Davidmac 09:37, 27 April 2007 (CDT)

  • And how many of those adventures were noncombats? Remember, you'll never find a clover after a fight... --Quietust (t|c) 10:32, 27 April 2007 (CDT)
  • I clovered the gallery (100% NC) over the last two muscle days with two lucky Crimbo tiki necklace and got almost no clover. Last SSPD also (100% NC) I remember them dropping left and right. Rumor has it the tiki necklace works like Marmet and stacks. Sorry, it's just anecdotal and without any specific numbers. Human brains are great at turning random chance into somekind of plan, so there's probably nothing going on. However, Grimace was full when I got few clovers and new when I got lots. Naw, probably just the RNG playing games. --Crowther 11:57, 27 April 2007 (CDT)

Clover / Probable non-Clover areas

As a Marmot, I have only gotten two clovers. One I got early in the Haunted Pantry, and that was it for the longest time. Finally, I got another one in The Enormous Greater-Than Sign, but emphatically not in the Dungeons of Doom (despite there being many non-combat adventures there).

Other areas with many non-combat adventures but no clover: Harem, the eXtreme Slope, the Copse of the Deep Fat Friars.

Cyferpunk, 2005/09/06 13:18 EDT

Facing the first day of ascension with no clovers during the Feast of Boris, I decided to go Marmot and spend as much time as I possibly could in the non-combat areas of the game hoping to get one during the long day. Spent ~40 turns in Degrassi Knoll (stupid toolboxes), never saw a clover in those non-combats. Spent another ~40 looking for a Chef's hat in the non-combat plentiful Outskirts of the Knob, no clovers there either. ~20 adventures in the Harem, no clovers there either. The main place I remember getting clovers at regularly in the past has been the Sewer, which is an area I couldn't justify lingering in this time. --Greg1104 19:18, 23 June 2006 (CDT)

Clover Drop Rate Tests & Experiments

Starting today, I am going to do a test. I am going to keep track of the number of clovers I get per day (With precisely 43 adventures per day, thanks to oxycore) in a set location (the sleazy back alley) and comparing said number with the moons. Also, my familiar is to be a 25-lb Baby Gravy Fairy, and my equipment will remain the same. My theory is that the moons directly effect clover discovery rate...Perhaps after we determine this, we could find a way to get more clovers using it. If anyone else would also like to help with this, it would be greatly appreciated. I will post my findings every so often in this discussion page.

You should probably mention how many non-combat adventures you had. Make sure you don't include choice adventures. --Ricket 01:46, 3 September 2006 (CDT)

True, true...Forgot about that. Well, only three days without that info...I will begin recording that info tomorrow! Thanks!  :)
--PhantomTrogdor 03:08, 4 September 2006 (CDT)

Well, I don't know if it's moon-based, but I have definitely noticed a large change in clover drop rate between the beginning and end of this. However, I doubt that I will be able to continue this tomorrow...I am 2 spider webs away from Gourdcore, and once I get that, I want to get out of Oxycore ASAP. I don't know how helpful my data will be, but I hope it can at least make a dent in the mystery that is the Marmot Clover Drop Rate.  :)

Ran 3000 adventures in the Castle in the Clouds in the Sky, 340 noncombats, 5 clovers, giving approximately 1.5% drop rate.--MindlessGames 02:01, 27 February 2008 (CST)

200 adventures, 5 clovers. Did Toss The Salad on April Fool's, thus non-combat adventures. 2.5% drop rate.--Relyk 04:25, 1 April 2008 (CDT)

Semi-Rare

Don't know that it matters much, but the clover drop can trigger on the same turn as a semi-rare noncombat.--Zelandoni 19:21, 27 September 2007 (CDT)

Some More Drop Anecdotals

I'm currently using a casual marmot to test the pre-war island for combat frequency, and have noticed the drops get really weird.

e.g., Today I ran 200 adventures, of which about 180 were non-combat (see results on Orcish Frat House (Verge of War). I got 0 clovers.

But previously, I had gotten as many as 13 over 220+ non-combats in the same zone.

Here are my last four results:

  • 09/25: 229 non-combats, 13 clover
  • 09/26: 95 non-combats, 0 clovers
  • 09/28: 139 non-combats, 5 clovers
  • 10/02: 177 non-combats, 0 clovers

First thought was that today is a stat day, maybe that's why there's a restriction on clovers. But no dice...9/26 wasn't a stat day, and 9/28 was. It's not normal day of week (9/26 was a Wednesday) or KOL date (Carlvember 3, Porktober 1). It could just be RNG, since the percentage normally seems to be about 3%, but over 177 adventures, it seems odd not to get one. --Foggy 08:33, 2 October 2007 (CDT)

Another data point: 183 non-combats, 5 clovers, 10/3.--Foggy 10:18, 3 October 2007 (CDT)

A location to check...

I'll (hopefully) be able to check Sonofa Beach, a place with very few combat adventures. This would be a good place to test, and if you put The Haunted Ballroom non-combat song on, even easier to test. When I get there (tomorrow, 24 April 09, most likely) I'll test it with my HC AT -- Kalon999 06:51, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

New Clover mechanic

Got a clover today on turn 7. --Raijinili 03:14, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
