Talk:The Enormous Greater-Than Sign

I have adventured in The Enormous Greater-Than Sign before hitting 50 in my main stat multiple times. In each case, it's been when I've hit 47 in my main stat. However, this most recent time, I had to hit 47 in my main stat and then have one of my secondary stats go up for the area to be available. It seems likely that the stat requirement isn't a fixed number in your main stat, but a total of all three of your stats.--Carl 23:10, 24 Oct 2005 (MDT)

Stat's: 22 Muscle, 46 Myst (primary stat), 30 moxie (base values), and unable to see area. Add one myst point and it becomes visible. Teffania

Stats: 47 muscle (primary), 30 myst, 30 moxie (base values), and I'm still unable to see this area.--Alomir 12:46, 6 January 2006 (Eastern Standard Time) After rollover, it still wasn't there - but when I did one more adventure, it was! I was *exactly* at 47 muscle at first - maybe we need to be above 47 (even just a little).--Alomir 21:54, 6 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)

According to the formula at Substat, 47 stat points is 2194 substats - maybe it opens at 2200? Phlip 22:16, 24 May 2006 (CDT)

More data for exact 47substat: (TT, oposusm, HC) Stats: 47(0),36(23),33(11). No access to area yet. 47(8),36(26),33(17) enormous > is now visible. This is 2208 substats in main stat. Seems it may be 2200 substat is required in main stat. Or 47(4).--Darkness 11:53, 7 August 2006 (CDT)

The Enormous Greater-Than Sign now has a clover drop adventure. Unfortunately, I went through it too fast and didn't capture the text/image. --Grimdel 23:25, 10 October 2006 (PST)

  • Are you sure it wasn't a Marmot drop? --Jonrock 01:38, 11 October 2006 (CDT)
  • Dunno why it didn't occur to me, but it might have been a Marmot my first one in 4 days. --Grimdel 22:14, 11 October 2006 (PST)

I encountered an undead macaroni in the enormous greater than sign, but the article says that there is a zero percent chance of combat, someone needs to redo that section. Oh, wait, I had teleportisis. Never mind.

  • Just checked to confirm the accessibility of the Sign. At 44 base mainstat, it was not shown in the Association and trying to go to /adventure.php?snarfblat=226 said I shouldn't be there. At 45, it was visible and I could adventure there. I used basic hot dogs to delevel back below 45, and the Sign had disappeared from the Association again and was again rejected at /adventure.php?snarfblat=226. After reading the bit above about substats, and seeing that stat 45 is at 2025 substats, just over 2000, I tested as closely as I could. At 1966 substats, nothing. Jumped to 1997, then tried 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, still no Sign. 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, all had no Sign showing or accessible. At 2026, one point over hitting mainstat 45, the Sign was now visible. I think it's safe to say TPTB would have set it to the nice multiple-of-5 2025 substats, mainstat 45. --Terion (talk) 03:36, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Now appears to show up earlier

Sauceror HCO opossum. Level 7 Myst 45(84): The enormous > sign is showing up in the DfoD. This is weird. When did this change?--Darkness 18:42, 1 February 2007 (CST)

Next run HC NP AT I checked in at 42 mox, no >. Forgot to check again until 46 mox and the > sign was there. So it appears now a little earlier.

My HCO Accordion Thief multi unlocked recently (within the last 20 adventures - I wasn't paying too much attention) - Unbuffed Moxie is 45, buffed is 62 --Deetviper 21:21, 28 February 2007 (CST)

As of September 5, 2007, the Enormous Greater-Than Sign is officially accessible with a main stat of 44, rather than 50. --Baltar 01:39, 7 September 2007 (CDT)

Last Adventure Link

When you click on the last adventure linkamajig after you've unlocked the Dungeons of Doom, it now randomly takes you to lots of other areas. I'm gonna keep experimenting to see where it'll take me. --DRaGZ 18:02, 26 August 2007 (CDT)

Well...it kept going until I got to the eXtreme Slope, and then it stayed there. Curious. Could anyone else try this? --DRaGZ 18:03, 26 August 2007 (CDT)

  • Erm, did you have Teleportitis? --Bagatelle 18:22, 26 August 2007 (CDT)
    • I'm guessing Teleportitis was active. After all, to unlock it, you have to read the plus sign, and to read the plus sign, you have to first have teleportitis and visit the oracle. --CG1:t,c,e 18:36, 26 August 2007 (CDT)

Aaah...okay...I never knew Teleportitis actually did anything. --DRaGZ 23:15, 26 August 2007 (CDT)

"The Enormous Greater-Than Sign is dead! Long live The Enormous Greater-Than Sign!" So... anyone have any further info on this??--Pamster 21:16, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

It looks that it's the pre-unlock dungeon. That is to say, NOT the DoD, but getting the plus sign, visiting the Oracle, etc. Spaders away! --Terry 21:23, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

So... I guess this means the page needs to be updated with all the new monsters and stuff, right? I'll start tooling around with it --Pc goldman 21:48, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

I just started a few pages with basic data from the fights - hope someone fixes 'em up quickly. Anyway, the "lowercase K" page I got started, but when I tried to come back to this page it said nothing links to the page "a lowercase K" and when I came back here it's now called "lowercase K"... guess someone updated the name in the mean time. Someone consolidate or fix? Thanks. --Kilyle 22:09, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

The combat rate appears to be approximately 75%. Running +20% combats, I was able to get the NC still, but I only got it 3 times out of 79 adventures. --Omri 22:19 18 March 2010 (UTC)

After running 385 turns at -5% combats on a multi I got 22.5% Typographical clutter. So it seems the rate is either 80 or 85% combats native. I'll run more turns on more multis and update once they converge.--Stupac2 01:45, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

I ran more turns and I'm pretty sure it's 80% combats. Here's the data.--Stupac2 02:40, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

For a VERY VERY VERY long shot, maybe an unidentified master of thieves? --Starguy 04:03, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Is there a reason why The Oracle Will See You Now has been moved to the Retired Adventures list? --Quietust (t|c) 13:33, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

  • Mistake made in haste, I'd have to admit. I moved the lot of the old adventures into the retired list. Fixed now.--Toffile 14:11, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank God somebody finally pestered Jick into admitting all the monsters are actually letters. I'm sorry, but I had never heard of NetHack when I started playing KoL, and I spent a lot of time in the Dungeons of Doom wondering what the hell I was looking at. Minor victory for me. Woo. -Captain Video 01:17, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Has there been a change to the minimum stat it unlocks at? I was expecting it at 44, but I kept checking back and didn't see it until I hit mainstat 45.--Jambosque 07:18, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

If you look at the article, it clearly states that your mainstat needs to be leveled to 45 and buffed to at least 44 in order to adventure here. --TimRem 07:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

So...after all those changes, can you actually use the lowercase a, left parenthesis, etc, or do they turn into the real items once you unlock the secret, or are they useless, and you gotta get the real drops in the DoD later? EDIT: You auto-identify all the items, stated now in the plus sign page. --Jimfromtx 06:47, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Using the Dwarvish War Gear (but not having solved the puzzle this ascension), the defense and HP are consistent with the values in the DoD. They most likely are the same values as in the DoD, and the attack is likely the same as well. --Top1214 19:38, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

New Semi-Rare?

Mafia shows the ability to get a Steaming Evil from this place. Is it possible there is a new semi-rare to get it here? Or is mafia pulling my chain? -Draken 23:30 02 April 2010 (UTC)
