If they're not in when I get back in ten minutes or so, I'll add them-- I just don't have the time at this very moment. Plus, you guys are like fiends when it comes to editing new content, anyway. --Southwest 22:03, 22 January 2008 (CST)

Here's the image: http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Image:Kol_cd.gif I had to rename the file because MediaWiki wouldn't allow the 2 letter file name. ("Ignore errors" might have fixed this problem, but oh well. It works doesn't it?)--Bicostp 22:10, 22 January 2008 (CST)

Everyone's (probably) thinking it, I'm just saying it. AOL Online Trial CD. And they'll be millions of them around ingame after today. Just like --YunaTwilight 09:55, 23 January 2008 (CST)there are in real life. Most likely, they'll be worthless or simply a collectable ingame, just like in real life. =) --Jonzay 22:16, 22 January 2008 (CST)

or "Loathing On Line", i.e. LOL --Thebigbrainiac 22:31, 22 January 2008 (CST)

It could just stand for KOL but I like the AOL idea--Thagorn 06:21, 23 January 2008 (CST)

It's gonna be a multi-piece non-tradable meatsink, like crimbo outfit

More like a wad sink. (Please sign your posts, by the way.) So far, the disc itself *is* tradeable... though that may change. Has anyone tried using multiple discs at once, as with the mummy wrappings, palm fronds and such? --Bonkbonk 22:55, 22 January 2008 (CST)
You can't "use " them, so no. --Ohnoanotherputz 00:08, 23 January 2008 (CST)

There is a new upcoming holiday, is it possible it could have something to do with that? --Ohnoanotherputz 19:40, 23 January 2008 (CST)

I've heard through the grape villa grape vine that the Shiny Disc will be part of a new outfit in the coming months... But who knows... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aletariel (talkcontribs) on 22:00, 25 January 2008

Plinth?

NO IDEA, but I'm just guessing, anything to do with the plinth adventure in the pirate ocean? It needed spherical objects, well, this is round.

Maybe?--Duff 22:20, 22 January 2008 (CST)

Doesn't do anything - just the usual message for not having any spheres. --Denarius 05:30, 23 January 2008 (CST)

This needs to be spaded a helluva lot more. I went to the plinth with a sphere and disc, nothing happened. I went to a Tiki island with a disc, didn't do anything. However, there is no damn way that the Strange stone sphere, Strange stone pyramid, Strange tiki idol and Strange shiny disc (especiall with the "ancient machinery" references) are not related to one another. We must find where the disc can be used.--Langsuir 13:18, 25 January 2008 (CST)

  • I think Langsuir is right. This is too much of a coincindence. Feel free to contact me in game if I can somehow help with the spading.--zanchvegas 15:48, 25 January 2008 (EST)

has anyone tried armor crafting it? how do you do the thing where you type it in the link to try it even if it doesn't show up in the dropdowns?--Warlok 11:09, 23 January 2008 (CST)

meatsmithing it with a buckler buckle or a twinkly wad does nothing either--Warlok 11:26, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Anyone tried

Combining/smithing/etc with an A? --Archon7777

combining it with a Giant Needle yet? ;~) --Nahtmmm 23:05, 22 January 2008 (CST) Oh wait, now I see it in the above list. Never mind then. Unless maybe you need something else to act as turntable? --Nahtmmm 23:07, 22 January 2008 (CST)

How about taking one to see One-Eyed Willie and getting him to microwave it? --Jef 00:12, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Someone with access to the supertinker wanna see if it's supertinkerable? --Cuteasawaffle 02:46, 23 January 2008 (CST)

  • Nope. --Baltar 03:16, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Random stray thought... what about sending them to people in K-mails? Fits the AOL thing anyway.--Denarius 05:34, 23 January 2008 (CST)

I tried it, didn't notice anything special. No trophy for one sent. --Thagorn 06:21, 23 January 2008 (CST)

  • Anyone care to try sending hundred or so to various people? ...or maybe just eleven to one person. That'd be far more like AOL than sending just one. :P --Andemon 12:37, 24 January 2008 (CST)

An Altar in the Hidden City? Rebrane

  • i just tried it and discs are not, apparently, spherical. who'd have thought it? didn't try remote forms, though. anyone? --Evilkolbot 07:07, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Looking outside the kingdom? ;) Specifically, for inspiration:Google - uses for an aol cd: I'm hcoxy level 8 at the moment, so I'm missing out on this bit of fun. --ArgghFW 07:17, 23 January 2008 (CST)

^ Arggh, the devs have debunked that particular post that said to look outside the kingdom. --ZOMGuberclubber

Anyone tried Display Caseing it? it might lead to a trophies like a certain polymer trophy.--Stevetek 07:40, 23 January 2008 (CST)

  • This did not work. I put 100 of them into my DC with no trophy or any other coll, noticeable difference. :o(--zanchvegas 09:23, 23 January 2008 (EST)

The joke we always used to make was using them to reshingle a house. Anyone tried setting up their Frobozz Magic House or sandcastle while a ton o'these were lying around? (Very dependent on circumstances and thus unlikely, I know ...)--YunaTwilight 10:00, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Adventuring in Junkyard? Edgeways 10:40, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Pulverizing? --Qilapid 11:38, 23 January 2008 (CST)

  • Nope; it's not equipment. --Baltar 14:37, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Perhaps one could use the same scripts people use to make hot stuffing to pulverize? Its worth a shot. -- ~The Phred~

So since this is (presumably) an AOL CD, anyone tried seeing if you get extra adventures from drinking booze with one in your inventory? I know at home I use them as a coaster, sometimes for booze.... --DVuser.giffile_icon.gifmail_icon.giflink_icon.gif 13:41, 23 January 2008 (CST)

No differences on multiple characters. --Flargen 14:27, 23 January 2008 (CST)

What about cooking it? It's the closest thing in KoL to sticking it in a microwave, though I have no idea what one would cook it with...--Leicontis 20:44, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Does anyone still have the Laser Cannon that hasn't yet been made into the C.B.F.G.? It seems like a sensible use, although unlikely. --Pressure77 23:42, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Has anybody tried meatpasting this with a guano coffee cup? --Deathmax 07:04, 25 January 2008 (CST)

Help Computer

Are there any computers in the Kingdom? Or any wise old men or tech-savvy young peoples we can go to? Maybe try and repair it? --Devion 08:49, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Maybe the O.A.F can have something to do with it. Did anyone with an O.A.F tried adventuring with the disc in their inventory and the OAF as an active familiar? --Kikas 09:05, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Rather than the O.A.F, what about the Pressie? Maybe it is "LOL" as in lolcat? Bakapyrite 10:34, 23 January 2008 (CST)

  • "OL" ... "AOL" ... "America OnLine" ... "Loathing OnLine" ... "LOL!". Significant?--DoctorWorm 15:59, 23 January 2008 (CST)

I was thinking, since most things that can "play" the disc arent combining with it.. maybe theres something new we can make that will? --Karmelya 18:49, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Soul Rayver

Could this perhaps be a precursor to SOUL RAYVER? -IH ~Infernohero~

  • What is Soul Rayver?--zanchvegas 09:42, 24 January 2008 (EST)

A game Jick & Co. joke about making once they're finished KoL. It revolves around travelling between the 90's and the 70's.--VlaxanV 10:40, 24 January 2008 (CST)

O.A.F.

Adventuring with the O.A.F. while one is in your inventory does not seem to have any effect... --SeiferTim 09:08, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Also does not meat-paste to a Deactivated O.A.F.

31337 Scroll

Using a 31337 scroll with one in your inventory does not have any effect. --FrankNBeans 12:03, 23 January 2008 (CST)

OwL

Is it just me... but the first thing that came to mind after seeing it's description is owl... like snowy owl. Why else would it be O_L? Probably just me, though. Doubt it's important.--Maxim123456789 12:43, 23 January 2008 (CST)

  • Good idea, but the most likely idea is that the "OL" refers to AOL trial cds. It fits with the rest of the description too. Might be worth thinking about in the long run.--DoctorWorm 15:56, 23 January 2008 (CST)
  • It is not "O_L", it says: All you can make out at this point is the letters "O L", in my opinion they are just a pun on KOL/AOL and I wouldn't bother much on it. Grammar nazi 18:13, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Kmail

Someone said maybe they could be related to Kmail. Has anyone tried, say, kmailing 100 of them at a time to someone? Or kmailing them to 20 different people? I think AOL has something to do with this. Littlebum2002 13:25, 23 January 2008 (CST)

I've kmailed discs to 207 different people and received kmails with discs from 160. No luck. --Kallmir2000 10:01, 9 April 2008 (CDT)

Are 100 enough?

The wikipedia article states that there exists about 1000 different designs of AOL CDs. I can't afford to buy that much of them, but if someone of you is wealthy and crazy enough he can try. Grammar nazi 14:11, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Other letters

I just tried it with the ruby W, lowercase N, heavy D, and original G. Also with a WA, NG, and a wang. Nothing across the board. Qaianna 16:16, 23 January 2008 (CST)

I tried crusty and rusty L shaped pieces of metal.--EvilJekyll 18:26, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Strange Leaflet

Use of commands with the disc aren't recognising the disc.--EvilJekyll 18:31, 23 January 2008 (CST)

I also explored each part of the leaflet with disks in inventory and trying to use the command through out. Nothing new to examine or interact with. --Karmelya 18:49, 23 January 2008 (CST)

If it's an AOL disc it's probably useless in the game too. --Lgolos 19:14, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Metallic A

I tried combining the disc with a Metallic A and nothing happened. Maybe something else that has to do with the Metallic A, like a WANG? I'm gonna test this with the other letters.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Emperornortonii (talkcontribs)

Please sign your edits to discussion pages. Also, there's no need to do that letter thing. If you look up a bit, it's already been done. Perhaps try something else? Lychosis 20:18, 23 January 2008 (CST)

Lasers?

Since it seems to be a CD, anyone tried using/combining laser-related items with it in hopes that it can be read? --Mendin 22:17, 23 January 2008 (CST)

  • I had the same thought so, as I mentioned above, I tried pasting it to a minborg laser and nothing happened so I tried it with the rest of the miniborg stuff and still nothing happened. --Kitsunegami 08:32, 24 January 2008 (CST)
  • I also tried using it while equipping the C.B.F.G. and glowing red eye, it did not work either. --zanchvegas 09:35, 24 January 2008 (EST)

Maybe we need a CD player, like combining a giant needle with a laser with a box? That would be a bit weird and not quite right but who knows?--Thagorn 16:37, 24 January 2008 (CST)

AOL CD uses

If it's actually an AOL CD, has anybody tried using it for what they're supposed to be used for? A cup holder? --CountD 01:16, 24 January 2008 (CST)

  • That's would have to be a tiny cup to fit in that little hole ;) Perhaps coaster? --Fryguy9 10:14, 24 January 2008 (CST)
  • I don't think taking up landfill space counts as a use. Anyway, it's a "Cannot be discarded" item. --Crowther 14:32, 24 January 2008 (CST)

Usable?

Actually... as noted above, 'use'ing the thing via code trickery gives you a 'this is not implemented yet' message. I think we need to be patient, and its purpose shall be revealed to us.--AltyMcAltAlt 02:20, 24 January 2008 (CST)

Isn't that the standard message you get when you try to use something non-usable? --Phelyan 03:18, 24 January 2008 (CST)

Maybe Another Traveling Trader Item?

The Traveling Trader was here for a day, and this was the only thing he brought to trade. Maybe he'll bring something else to make this item useful? --Seiterman 10:12, 24 January 2008 (CST)

This may be an odd suggestion, but has anyone considered they're about as useless and annoying as the actual AOL disc, and the non-discard is a demonstration of how annoyingly hard they are to get rid of?--Amp Zaphrix 14:49, 24 January 2008 (CST)

tl;dr? --Crawly2 15:10, 24 January 2008 (CST)

Yuletide!

It's got to be a yuletide item! Yuletide = Yul Brynner = evil robot = AOL! I'm a freakin' genius.--Spaz102 20:41, 24 January 2008 (CST)

No purpose

I'm pretty sure this item does not -- and will never have -- a purpose. The Traveling Trader was made to sink twinkly wads, and items such as bananas, O.A.F.'s and others actually encourage people to pulverize equipment into twinkly wads. This item does not have a purpose in order to control that surge. People will purchase it only to collect it. Zing!

--Coogi Hat 21:50, 24 January 2008 (EST)

That could be, but some of us may want to hold on to our hopes and dreams, Mr. I'm Gonna Break People's Hopes and Dreams (or Mrs/Ms., Coogi Hat doesn't seem to identify gender.) --Seiterman 21:44, 24 January 2008 (CST)

  • Based solely on wad prices during the trader, bananas sunk WAY more wads than any of the "bad" trader items so far. They've already done the "useless trader item" gimmick twice, why would they bother to do it again when making a useful item will sink more wads? Don't give me that "people pulverize items" babble, overall, the trader sinks both wads and items and IIRC, they said that bananas made a huge dent in wad/item numbers. --CheezyBob 21:51, 24 January 2008 (CST)

Oh how I wish I was there for the previous Traveling Salesman encounters. Anyways, I actually do think the ONLY purpose of the disc was to sink meat. Perhaps when computers are invented in the Kingdom we might find out but until then it is a mystery. --Devion 10:20, 25 January 2008 (CST)

  • Well the O. A. F IS the "... robot with the most advanced computer brain known to the Kingdom (though given the previously most advanced computer brain was an abacus, that's not saying much)..." but they tried adventuring with the OAF and meatpasting with the deactivated and nothing worked.--TehChozenOne 21:41, 25 January 2008 (CST)

I personally don't see how it could be a meatsink... It's be different if NPC stores sold twinkly wads, but they don't. Meat stays in the Kingdom. Still, it is a wadsink, to be sure. --Amp Zaphrix 00:07, 26 January 2008 (CST)

  • Still, with too useful of an item people will just keep on smashing wads instead of sinking all of the ones that they have already smashed. I wish this item had a purpose at this moment, but it seems it does not. And anyway, it's Mr.--Coogi Hat

Fixing the scratches?

I googled on how to fix CD scratches and found all kinds of wacky crap that people use to fix scratched CDs. I tried combining the disc's with bananas, banana peels, all purpose cleaner, tubes of dread wax and Tom's of Spanish Main Toothpaste. No effects noted and all failed to combine. --Franknbeans 20:46, 26 January 2008 (CST)

It's not the data side of the disc that's scratched. It's the label.--Jett 06:48, 28 January 2008 (CST)

Time Solves Everything

This item, most likely, does not have a current use and everyone seems to be running around with their heads chopped off trying to figure out what to do wit these. When no one figured it out within 3 days, I just told myself to wait, because they will probably make another feature (whatever it may be) to use these disks. --AceOfSpades 15:53, 27 January 2008 (CST

This is probably true, as the description says that the label side is scratched, while the data side remains shiny, my guess is that either the trader, or some other Kingdom integrated plot device will show up with a computer to pop this sucker into. --Batdawg 14:24, 22 February 2008 (CST)

War Hippies

Has anyone tried trading this in at the Hippy Camp during the war? The Hippy Army is A.O.L (army of one love). (I won't be able to try for a while)--Foggy 07:12, 28 January 2008 (CST)

  • It doesn't show up in the drop-down list.--Sir Hobo 23:46, 28 January 2008 (CST)

Cooking

Perhaps one could cook this with item #00000, thus simply cooking it? Or maybe EZcook oven has a new Zap item; microwave... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Phredrox (talkcontribs) on 00:58, 29 January 2008 (CST)

Apologies

Apologies for editing the page to say it couldn't be placed in the display case or mall - I really have to stop editing when I haven't had my first coffee of the day. :P I must've misspelled the name when looking them up in the mall and the reason they weren't in my case dropdown was because they were in my closet. :P --Gumog 20:38, 28 January 2008 (CST)

Not paste-able

Now that only paste-able items show up in the meatpaste menu, I can confirm that as of Feb. 8. 08, these things do not paste to anything. Maybe some day they will, but right now they don't.Lotusduck 20:29, 8 February 2008 (CST)

El Vibrato Island?

There's an adventure on El Vibrato Island, in which you can insert punchcards into a machine, or press a button. Could this be used there? --Unhuman 13:47, 9 February 2008 (CST)

  • Nope, nothing to do with El Vibrato Island, you cant put it into the Machinations because it doesnt appear on the list. And the whole plinth (now El Vibrato Island) mystery is solved. Looks like we have to face the fact that the disc are just there for NOTHING.--TehChozenOne 03:13, 10 February 2008 (CST)

Jick & Co said on the 5/1/2008 radio show that they are related to something to be done in the black woods, but there was great laughter afterwards, so who knows. Perhaps something to do with the hackers? --Valliant 22:44, 1 May 2008 (CDT)
