Talk:Silent Strolling
Aerated diving helmet + shark cartilage + diving muff + swim fins was unable to get me anything. --Flargen 23:26, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Adding salt and fastjuice and using a sea familiar also didn't help. This better not be ANOTHER turtle adventure that requires one of the island familiars that you CAN'T GET after getting the wossname. Grumble grumble boo. --Flargen 23:30, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Alright, finally got it. Another one of those "have to have a decoy" turtle encounters. Looks like there might be a limit of 4 per day. I got one, used it to get the effect information, was able to get 3 more, and then nothing. I adventured in each sea zone until I got a turtle encounter, and this was the only one I saw. --Flargen 09:27, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Three seemed to be my limit. After I got the third turtle in my inventory, the next two attempts failed(all turns spent in the briny deeps.) Has anyone tamed a given turtle successfully after getting a failure message even with all the right gear and effects in place?--Noskilz 22:15, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
I can't gets it even with a grinning turtle and the turteling rod... maybe I need something else? --Shualdon 06:25, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
I have not been able to get it either. Each time I try, I have received "You swim toward the turtle, but clumsily, disturbing the water and scaring him off in a big blast of bubbles." --Vigilamus 23:56, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Try having something that "Makes you a better swimmer" active, I guess. I had swim fins and a diving muff on the entire time, I think. --Flargen 23:59, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- With swim fins, diving muff, swimming with sharks, donho's bubbly ballad, a turtling rod, and a 32 pound grinning turtle, I was unable to get the damned turtle.--GoldS 14:40, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- Huh, weird. If I had anything else active that you didn't, it was Mer-kin fastjuice. No Donho's. Lemme see if I can figure out from my logs at the time what else I might have been wearing or effects I might have had up when I succeeded. --Flargen 21:36, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not noticing anything worthwile. And it looks like I got one of them without the fastjuice. Maybe it has an initiative dependency (including mainstat)? This was with a 40+ TT. --Flargen 01:41, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

- Same here. I think the main page may need some updating/changing.--Watermoon 21:29, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
You need to have Fishy to get the Ballast Turtle —Preceding unsigned comment added by HighAssasin (talk • contribs) on 12:58, 20 May 2009
- Proof of needing Fishy to acquire Ballast Turtle: I tried to get the ballast turtle 5 times, and never succeeded, but the moment I got Fishy, I got 3 Ballast Turtles. Coincident? I think not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by HighAssasin (talk • contribs) on 16:43, 20 May 2009

- Also, a sample size of "5 times" is not large enough; that still leaves a significant margin of error. Also, I think the problem is not that Fishy is necessary persay, but because without fishy you burn two adventures, the latter of the two adventures could be the designated turtle adventure, which would then decrease the chances of getting the turtle. --CG1:t,c,e 02:48, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- Divine champagne poppers will fix that. --Flargen 03:57, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- Except that the turtles show up in ten adventures but I think it determines the number of adventures when you use the phermones, because after using 98 poppers (and my navel ring as long as it was free, about 6 times) I still had no turtle adventures. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Watermoon (talk • contribs) on 14:43, 21 May 2009
- You misunderstood. If you don't have fishy, you can make underwater combats take exactly one turn by poppering out of them. And, on that note: poppered my way to a turtle in the sea with my grinning turtle and rod equipped (no other effects or special sea equipment), and got the bubbles message; didn't even give me the message of sending out the grinning turtle as a distraction. Then I ate a maki to get some fishy, and succeeded in getting the next ballast turtle. So, yeah, I'm going to go with "must have fishy effect" as an/the extra requirement. Did anyone have fishy, the turtle, and the rod and still couldn't get the ballast turtle? --Flargen 00:30, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

I picked up 3 and then repeatedly got the "too hard to handle" message. Seems like a daily limit to me unless it's punishment for running donho. --Dqp 01:19, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
It's not a punishment for running donho - I had a 3/day limit too, and haven't had donho's on this ascension. Can anyone solidly confirm receipt of a fourth on any day under any conditions? --Drachefly 03:15, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm gonna chime in with support for the 3/day cap. Running Donho's, Fishy, and a bunch of irrelevant buffs for my stats. Level 14 TT, with a 10-lb Syncopated Turtle (after buffs and Das Boot). Similar results on a previous TT run. --Ephesos 05:13, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
OK, got tired of the odd layout and the "how many?" header. So I did taming attempts with all 8 combinations of Fishy, a familiar (I used a Syncopated Turtle), and a rod (I used the Flail.) It tests for Fishy first, then your familiar, and finally for the rod. I also never got a fourth ballast turtle in one day; after taming 3 in the brinier deepers today, I specifically attempted taming a fourth in the brinier deepers, the briny deeps, the octopus's garden, and the anemone mine, and got the "dropped" result every time. Along with only getting 3 on previous days and the other comments here, I feel safe stating it's 3/day. --Terion 07:16, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
