Talk:Shrinking powder

From some very, very rough, very small, spading in the basement: Against a beast with 2590 eyes, It took 5 ~530 saucegeysers to defeat it. Used a shrinking potion two combats later on a beast with 2,634 ears, and it took only 3 ~530 saucegeysers to defeat it. I would guess this cuts enemy HP in half. --J12601 13:47, 7 July 2007 (CDT)

Semi-Rare

Can someone test for semi-rare status? --MrAndersonMan 09:56, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

Just tested it. It triggered on my semi-rare turn, so I think it can be said to be a semi-rare. Anyone else want to test?--MaskedLihc 06:54, 14 July 2007 (CDT)

I did it with a multi. Of course, I wasn't really counting, just noticed I have 18 as my lucky number for the day and pressed it a lot of times, and I got it. Sorry for not being a good spade. :( --MrAndersonMan 07:48, 14 July 2007 (CDT)

consumption

is the item consumed when used? edit: ok --Myst44 03:38, 4 August 2007 (CDT)

  • Like most combat items, yes, it is consumed when used. Also, try signing your posts :) --J12601 12:57, 2 August 2007 (CDT)

NS

Does this work or have any noticeable effect on the Naughty Sorceress?--Dorf (t|c) 14:40, 2 August 2007 (CDT)

Just tried it on her second form. I was lucky enough not to get the item blocked, and it does indeed display the shrinking message. I was also able to defeat it before I ran out of rounds (which I was unable to do the last three times I tried today) so I assume the effect occurred too. --Flandamnat 22:38, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Forms

Does using this have an effect on all forms of a monster which takes multiple adventures to defeat (e.g. NS, Ed the Undying), and are you able to use shrinking powder on such monsters in each adventure it takes/ form they use? Also, does this affect Monster Level in any way ("and angrier"), or is this some reference?--Walterwongc 03:59, 25 August 2007 (CDT)

Failure to use

I just tried to use it on The Man and it 'blew away before I could use it." I also lost the item. Which caused me to not beat him. Joy. --Ashallond 21:40, 14 May 2008 (CDT)

Happened to me also- twice in one day! (May 12.)(Different characters who hit the end of the war on the same day.) It worked fine for me on April 29 and never failed me before. Has anyone had this work against this boss or is it an automatic failure now?--Entwhistle 21:51, 23 May 2008 (CDT)

I tried one against Oscus, but it failed. Didn't try more than once. --Nappa 05:02, 24 August 2008 (CDT)

I think that it failed against the level 12 bosses was a bug that was introduced when they made it so it couldn't be used on Hobopolis bosses, and that was shortly thereafter fixed. At least that's what I seem to remember hearing back then. Anyway, I did some spading, and of 34 shrinking powders I threw at the Big W not a single one failed, so I think it's safe to say that it does indeed work. --Friederike 14:07, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Does it work on the new Nemesis' (Demon form and regular)? --EasilyDistracted 08:29, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Just tried it on the Demon Spirit of New Wave, and it worked like a charm. --The Amazing Charlie 17:14, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

It worked against all normal quest bosses. Just had it fail against the school of many (20,115 HP). Also blew away against the seahorse. --TechSmurf (talk) 04:13, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Crimbomination

"You sprinkle the powder on your opponent, and It gets smaller and angrier."

Seems like a slightly different message. --Raijinili 11:42, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Damage done

This does not do exactly half of the monster's HP in damage. There is some RNG swing to it. I know this because the only way my observed numbers for NS form 3 will fit is if the shrinking powder did precisely 53% of her HP as damage. Not going to be noticeable versus pretty much any monster, but there it is. I might get around to spading it later, but if someone wants to beat me to it, be my guest. --MindlessGames 08:42, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Spading

At +212 Monster Level, fluffy bunnies have exactly 213 HP all the time. So going on the basis that the most damage that is possible is 66% of the monster's HP (just a guess), four Disco Face Stabs can maximally do 18*4 = 72 damage, and 213-floor(213*0.66) = 73, so this works perfectly. I can do 4 face stabs, and then funksling spices until the monster dies. If the first spice kills the monster, the second will not fire, this is also ideal. So, just record how much damage the 4 face stabs did, then how much damage was needed to finish off the monster, and then work backwards and figure out how much damage the powder did. (213 - (face stabs + spice damage)) = powder damage.

Shrinking Powders are doing floor(X% of HP) of the monster in damage. It looks like X can at least range from 50% to 65%, possibly 66%, but I did not observe a 66% in this admittedly small sample size. However, this is enough to put a decent range on the page. --RoyalTonberry 18:14, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

After using powder against bunnies with 100 HP I was left with: 42, 39, 39, 36, 41, 38, 44, 45, 41, 45, 35, 44, 41, 50, 41, 37, 49, 50, 35, 41, 50, 38, 47, 35. Looks like it's 50-65%. --TechSmurf (talk) 06:34, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
