This seems pretty obviously to be a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... I'm just not sure how... --MrPaulie 17:02, 18 January 2007 (CST)

TMNTs lived in the sewer? japanvisitor.blogspot.com/2005/11/manhole-covers-in-japan.html This also strikes me as a valid reference. --Sakurabisu 20:13, 18 January 2007 (CST)

I am still searching but i beleave a turtle shaped sewer lid was used as the TMNTs logo for a while. perhaps it was one of the movies? i know they often used sewer lids as sheilds in the original cartoons, and there are several classic toys that have them using sewer lids for this and that. --LoA 12:22, 19 January 2007 (CST)

I don't think that's true. The logo was usually stamped on a manhole cover, though. More likely then a dirrect reference, it's most likely an allusion, linking sewers and turtles together, especially in the "sewer trutles" plural. I don't think there's anything directly references TMNT, though, although their place in pop culture makes alluding to them through the simple act of linking sewers and turtles likely.--Galapagos James 14:19, 19 January 2007 (CST)
