Uses?

I assume this allows you to adventure with an air-breathing familiar without the bathysphere? --Jabbykins 09:00, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

It gives effect

Greased-Up Familiar

Your familiar is covered with grease, allowing him (or her) to perform more effectively underwater.

for 40 turns. It currently has the picture frame image and doesn't seem to have been implemented --GothicWonder 13:10, 5 December 2008 (GMT)

Does anybody know if this actually pays off, when I'm after the 100 sand dollars for Big Brother? --Tannkrem 12:33, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

  • No, I don't. I'd normally say no, but since it comes in batches of 40 turns I suppose it is possible. There aren't any compiled drop statistics for the garden (sponges) or wreck and trench (mer-kins) just yet. I'm slowly getting around to some of that. And perhaps Yiab is, too. --Flargen 12:42, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Very rough estimates and just considering sponges:
    • With olfaction say 20 of your 40 turns are sponges. They drop up to 3 each, so that's 60 chances at a sand dollar.
    • You need to get at least 5 extra sand dollars to break even.
    • If the effect only gives +5lb that translates into around +10% items, depending on familiar weight.
    • So, with 60 chances, to get an extra 5 you need to effectively add 8.3% to the base sponge drop rate.
    • With a +10% proportional increase from the extra fairy weight, to get an effective increase of at least 8.3% the base drop rate of sponges for sand dollars would have to be at least 83%, just to break even.
    • So not likely a good pay off, unless there are other effects than just +5lb. --Fig bucket 17:08, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
