New Effect?

I don't know if it's a new effect from NS13 but it appears that the old message You conjure a saucy salve and quickly apply it to your wounds. has been replaced with You conjure a saucy salve and apply it to your wounds. and You quickly conjure a saucy salve and apply it to your wounds. The former seems to be equivalent to the previous effect of the skill. When the quickly conjuring message appears though the opponent doesn't even get it's turn. I've had it happen twice in a row during the same battle but overall only like 25-30% of the time or so. I'm 90% sure this isn't the effect of any other effects I have running. --TheDotGamer 21:48, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

Same here, although I almost always get the "quickly" one. --Amlethus 13:48, 26 June 2007 (CDT)

Maybe it depends on initiative? --Starwed
to clarify: I almost always get it "quickly" the first time I use it in combat. I usually do not get it the second time in a row. Alternating between saucy salve and attacking seems to give slightly better results.

It seems to always let you take a turn again the first time you use it in a combat. Also, you can only get the "quickly" version three times per combat. Note that the "quickly" version still counts against the 30-round limit. --Dalgar 12:21, 8 July 2007 (CDT)

Does the quick conjuring only work for Saucerors? --Creamy 00:19, 4 August 2007 (CDT)

Agree with Dalgar. I used Saucy Salve hundreds of times during the last run. In each battle, except against NS, it didn't matter when I used Saucy Salve; the first time I used it per combat, it worked without the monster getting a turn. The second time, the monster always gets a turn. It would usually alternate, one free turn, one regular turn.--Quax 09:03, 20 August 2007 (CDT)

I agree with Dalgar as well. In testing, the first round, it was always "quick", and the second, it was either "quick" or "unquick", but never more than 3 "quick"s. --Goffrie 15:53, 13 September 2007 (CDT)

The link to the HCO forums atm leads to one of those wonderful domain squatters. Anyone know the real adress for the thread or has it died a slow and painful death? Winterbay 09:05, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm asking this because I just discovered this "quick-cast" thing, and because from the article I couldn't figure out what it means. I guess I didn't look at this skill for (mumble) years, mainly because it always took a combat round! And who can afford to lose a combat round, when he already needs healing!? So my question: couldn't some little explanation of "quick-cast" be put into the article? I'm not trying to add it because I'm terribly shy about editing a page like that. --StorellaDeville 10:08, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

The spading tag mentions you may be able to get more than three quick casts per combat now. I got five today while trying to stall combat for my he-boulder. Cptjsparrow (talk) 02:45, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Critical Hits

With the recent addition of critical hits for spells I was surpris to find that healing skills can critical in combat, saucy salve has thus far restored between 20 and 26 hp on a critical for me.--V38 13:36, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

"Quick cast"

It seems that the first 2 heals per combat do not take a round; the third sometimes does, sometimes does not. cathartes (talk) 05:06, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
