Staffcrafting

•Apparently, having a 25-meat staff in your inventory or equipped won't cause a change in Rodoric --Talon 06:19, 25 June 2007 (CDT) Talon

  • Staves that work:

basic meat staff
kentucky-fried meat staff

Added a list of what I've found so far. --sl1me 06:23, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

Also, the Linoleum Staff can be made into the "Staff of the Kitchen Floor" and Ram sticks can be made into "Staff of the Walk-in Freezer" --GameWhino

The spooky staff can be made into a "staff of the midnight snack". --Santasassassin 07:52, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

the ram stick also works - Smacktard

Basic meat staff becones Staff of the Short Order Cook Dripping Meat staff becomes Staff of Blood and Pudding Kentucky Fried Meat staff becomes Staff of the Greasefire Bobaloo 14:56, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

Mysterious Ingredients

so... any leads on finding those odd avian components?--A Naked Jew 12:54, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

I got some of those in one of the subquests of the level 12 quest.--Olaf 11:53, 26 June 2007 (CDT)

Added a few X's and deleted the second listing of dense meat staff. Bobaloo 11:38, 26 June 2007 (CDT)

I have that entire list of staves, save the bow staff, and get nothing beyond the ones known. as such, I have Xed all my results. Rudicron 21:48, 26 June 2007 (EDT) (it seems I missed the cheesestick. sorry.)

I found another staff that weren't already on the list (I also alphabetized the list in a bout of OCD). Unfortunately, I don't have anyone in a myst class, so someone else will have to test the soylent staff. --LegendaryBard 15:19, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

  • Nope, soylent staff doesn't work either. --Harry Crimboween 22:06, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

Don't bother testing anymore staffs for now. Jick said on the 6/28 radio show that there are only eight chefstaves right now because, well, he didn't get to do more yet. --TechSmurf 22:37, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

Update: 6/5/12 Two new staves have been added. one has been found already.--Fluxxdog 04:42, 6 July 2012 (CEST) Update Update: Same day It's been found.--Fluxxdog 04:50, 6 July 2012 (CEST)

staves

there are 8 staves according to the image database; which means, there is 1 staff currently unknown.

well there's a similarity to mushroom farming, there is a hot (Grand Flambé), cold (Walk-In Freezer), and stink (Staff of the Kitchen Floor) which are requiring feathers, spooky (Midnight Snack) and sleaze (Greasefire) are done, and we have mystic or MP (Short Order Cook) and muscle or HP(Blood and Pudding), so logically the last one is ultimate or moxie. However if there are two left then they could use the flirtatious feather and frightful feather

Needed skill

Apparently, in orded to use a Chefstaff we need a skill.

When I try to equip one I get this message

"Results: You are not able to equip chefstaves."

You need the Special Sauce Glove. --Lumire 20:49, 26 June 2007 (CDT) or the new spirit Spirit of Rigatoni

What about skills needed just to make the ingredients that Rodoric requires to make some of these? Pretty stiff requirements for hardcore players. Looks like you'd need: A)All skills/items needed for Hi-Mein creation (Pulverize, Transcendental Noodlecraft, The Way of Sauce) B)A Muscle Sign (for Mushroom fermenting solution) C)Super-Advanced Meatsmithing (for linoleum staff, unless Trapper quest gives it to you, and for smoldering staff) and D)Completed the Level 12 Quest (Giving access to McMillicancuddy's Farm for feathers). --Agrippa 05:38, 29 June 2007 (CDT)

In fact, there is an irony that the skill is completely useless in Bad Moon pastamancer runs - *every* Chefstaff requires pulverize. Unless Heartbreaker's Hotel incudes powder/nugget drops, it returns to being the most useless skill in the game.--Sneakabout 08:43, 15 August 2007 (CDT)

Jiggling

Should jiggling functionality be mentioned here? I assume it applies to all chefstaves, and it looks like it can only be used once per round. --rholliday 00:32, 27 June 2007 (CDT)

I havent seen any change in what jiggling actually affects. i will verify that it can only be used once per fight, but I have yet to see any combat text. I would like to know others thoughts on it. --TRINI ROCKS 02:51, 27 June 2007 (CDT)

I have the Staff of the Midnight Snack on my multi, and the message I get when I jiggle it is "You jiggle your chefstaff toward your opponent, and tendrils of ghostly black mist envelop him, dealing 12 damage." It uses no MP. I'd be interested to see how much elemental damage the better staves dish out when you jiggle them. --LuLuville 15:04, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

Here's a few more jiggle messages. I didn't really try them more that 2-3 each so the ranges here are probably not representative:

Blood and Pudding: "You jiggle the staff toward your opponent. A stream of blood bursts from her body and pours into yours, dealing (6-10) damage and healing you." "You gain (6-10 same amt) hit points."

the Short Order Cook: "You jiggle your chefstaff toward your opponent, and a bolt of force shoots out at her, dealing 11 damage."

the Greasefire "-You jiggle your chefstaff, and it fires a stream of boiling grease at your opponent, dealing 0 (+10-12 fire) (+10-12 sleaze) damage." Bobaloo 16:01, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

  • More:
the Grand Flambé: You jiggle the staff in the air and them slam it into the ground. There is a whoomph and the air shimmers as a wave of heat radiates from the staff, singeing your opponent for ~25-28 damage. (It was 35-38, put I was wearing liar's pants.)
the Walk-In Freezer:You jiggle the staff in the air, and a beam of intense cold strikes your opponent, dealing ~26-28 damage and slowing her down a little.
--rholliday 18:47, 30 June 2007 (CDT)

Dual-wielding

Has anyone worked out whether you can dual-wield these things (if you have dual-wielding permed, obviously)? It seems like you should be able to. --LuLuville 15:04, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

Apparently not. I'm not even given the "off hand" option to equip it. --Bobaloo 14:08, 29 June 2007 (CDT)

  • Seems they can only be wielded in your main hand. I can use a chefstaff in my mainhand and a 17-alarm saucepan in my offhand, but not the other way around. --TechSmurf 14:10, 29 June 2007 (CDT)
  • Drat. Though I guess it would have made Myst classes too powerful if it had been dual-wield. -LuLuville 22:55, 30 June 2007 (CDT)

Crafts

All the KoL crafts have a symbol. Rodoric should have one, too, and the Chefstaves need a recipe section. Rodoric also needs to be added to "miscellanious crafts". --Blazingthunder 05:38, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Trying to put together something for that, calling it Staffcrafting for now, and using the Grand Flambé pic for the symbol. First attempt at a template, so it may need cleaning up. --Sparksol 22:06, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Staff Staffcrafter

The In-Game name for him is "Rodoric, the Staff Staffcrafter". Yeahhh...--Creamy 14:45, 8 July 2007 (CDT)

Used-more-than-once-per-fight-message

Not entirely sure how I did this, but it procured the message 'You've already jiggled your chefstaff recently. It's not a machine, y'know?'. Quite an obvious phallic reference here. --Fireyflame 14:29, 11 July 2007 (CDT)

Is hit % still Myst-based?

I've got 185 buffed Myst but only 105 buffed Muscle, I'm wearing a special sauce glove and have the Staff of the Short Order Cook equipped. When fighting in the Island Battlefield (where the monsters seem to be between 140-190 atk/def) I can't hit anything with a simple attack. My SC multi is able to hit most enemies there with a similarly high muscle. This leads me to suspect that maybe the chefstaves don't use Myst as their hit stat. I'll try submitting this as a bug, but it might be deliberate. --Harry Crimboween 11:01, 15 July 2007 (CDT)

Still More To Be Discovered?

I think there still might be undiscovered Chefstaves. What about a high end spooky damage staff, for example? --wexer9 15:42, 5 August 2007 (CDT)

Not made yet. Read above. Jick only made 8 because he didn't have time to make more. --Ashallond 15:55, 5 August 2007 (CDT)

Staff of the Walk-In Freezer

Why is its jiggle weaker than those of the other high end staves? --wexer9 15:42, 5 August 2007 (CDT)

Notice that it slows the monster down a bit, in addition to doing the damage. So it probably delevels. --Starwed 15:44, 5 August 2007 (CDT)
Oh, cool. I assume this is being spaded? --wexer9 19:32, 15 August 2007 (CDT)
One possible reason the WIF's jiggle is weaker is that the WIF is slightly easier to make. The other three high-end staves require a staff made from a bigger stick and a dense meat stack, while the WIF's staff requirement is just a farmable ram stick. --ElroyJetson 19:19, 6 January 2008 (CST)

Hobopolis Chef Staffs

Perhaps that for each of the elemental areas, each drops a staff that can be made into a chef staff? sadly, im still to weak to spade it out, so if somone else can try it. Ill have some of my clannies look into it.--Lego6245 08:02, 23 June 2008 (CDT)

This wouldn't surprise me, though it probably would've been discovered by this point if there were any more. Are there any more staves dropped in Hobopolis? The other bosses and Hodgman don't seem to have them. --Ducksan 22:36, 29 June 2008 (CDT)

New chefstaves

In addition to the recent update, there are images for seven more chefstaves (numbers 10-12 and 14-17; no 13, natch). —Yendor 17:24, 9 July 2008 (CDT)

Through url manipulation(ish) i found alot more chef staves. [1] Just change the number at the end of this url from anywhere from 10 to 20 skipping 13.

--Agent orangey 20:21, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Table size

With all of the new chefstaves the table is starting to look a bit cluttered. How about using something like this instead?

Original Staff Snack & Libation Items Chefstaff When Jiggled
Frostyarm.gif
Frosty's arm
bowl of fishysoisse
mandarina colada (3)
glacial sapphire (3)
epic wad
frigid mote
Chefstaff9.gif
Staff of the Deepest Freeze

Spell Damage +200%
+30 Damage to Cold Spells
Regenerate 20-30 MP per adventure
40-50 Cold Damage

--Tenks 22:00, 9 July 2008 (CDT)

  • I can agree with the argument to collapse the miscellaneous items into a single column, as that would prevent strangely-numbered items from breaking the row patterns. However, since all staves so far take a snack and libation, I think it'd be nice to keep them in separate columns with the pictures, for consistency's sake. --Bagatelle 22:26, 9 July 2008 (CDT)
    • That works for me. Now that we have staves that take 4 extra items, we can't really put each one in its own column without causing scrollbars for most people (myself included). --Flargen 22:32, 9 July 2008 (CDT)

Stat required

How about including the stat requirement for each staff in the table? Borrowing liberally from Tenks, maybe something like this?

Original Staff Snack & Libation Items Chefstaff When Jiggled
Frostyarm.gif
Frosty's arm
bowl of fishysoisse
mandarina colada (3)
glacial sapphire (3)
epic wad
frigid mote
Chefstaff9.gif
Staff of the Deepest Freeze

Spell Damage +200%
+30 Damage to Cold Spells
Regenerate 20-30 MP per adventure

Requires 200 Mysticality
40-50 Cold Damage

--ElroyJetson 14:21, 18 July 2008 (CDT)

  • I was about to post this suggestion. Would be quite handy.--Darkness 01:33, 30 July 2008 (CDT)
  • Change made! Let the complaining begin! --ElroyJetson 18:52, 19 August 2008 (CDT)

Hobopolis Staffs

Can we assume that the Staff of the Deepest Freeze is a new staff in a New Level of staffs? If so, I would expect the other staffs to follow a similar formula:

Hobopolis Boss Weapon + Hobopolis Food + ? + Epic Wad + 3 Gems + ?

Fish stick unstaffable?, what about putting in the new ITOM?

Basically title--Brion thenotgiant 20:49, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Staff of Queso Escusado

The math used for the jiggle on Staff of Queso Escusado makes no sense. X - 10 - X + 10 = 0 no matter what variable you use. If it is meant as a range equation instead than it is possible but it needs to be written correctly, i.e. X ± 10. This is used for "range" and "or" equations alike. --Getfresh 08:16, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
