Talk:Pirate hook
Jick has weighed in on the issue, and although he hasn't say why it was given out, or explained the mechanism, he did say this: "There was nothing random about it, and it went off completely and in exactly the way it was intended to go off.". Any theories that it was only partially rolled out are hereby debunked. --Aardvark 01:45, 20 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- There is currently a theory that those who had a grog in their booze history by rollover on September 19, the International Talk-Like-a-Pirate-Day, where rewarded with a pirate hook. Further data is needed, however. --Aardvark 01:47, 20 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- This theory is now debunked. --Aardvark 01:53, 20 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- The current theory is that it may have been awarded to players who adventured at the shore on September 19. Further data still needed. --Aardvark 02:06, 20 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- I am 80% sure that I shored yesterday for 10 adv. Maybe it has to do with adventuring in the cove, wearing a pirate outfit, or having all the peices in inventory (all 3 I did not do yesterday) --JRSiebz 02:19, 20 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
- Nope, not chatbot either. --Aardvark 02:59, 20 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
It's got nothing to do with wearing any of the pirate get up. I'm in hardcore and hadn't attained the get up yet and I still got a hook at rollover. It's got nothing to do with the shore either, I didn't have any of the parts needed to go there yet. I've also never drunk any grog in my lifetime, so it's not that either. I did however talk a lot like a pirate in chat on September 19th so that's probably got something to do with it. - Jezequel
The current forum theory seems to be that it was given to those who talked like a pirate in chat. Perhaps a mere single "arrr" was enough to qualify. Id the Mildly Confused 10:01, 20 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

No, I didn't talk like a pirate in chat. - Indigo
- I'm definitely thinking it was pirate talk. Like Id said, it could be something as simple as an "arrr". In fact, that makes quite a bit of sense. Given that all the pirate items have "arrr" in them, that would make the most sense. Mostly because I was only level 3, working on getting my meatcar (no shore), teetotaler (no booze), and no pirate gear.--digitrev 13:17, 27 Sep 2005 (MDT)
