Typo?: "And hear you had thought Elvish was dead" Shouldn't that be "And here"? It's wrong in-game as well though...--Plater 17:02, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

I completed the quest and the level 12 quest. I used to be able to get a buff I think without wearing an outfit. I have tried two or three times to get a buff and it doesn't work. I just now tried doing bust a move and I got sent back to the Mysterious Island. I was wearing the Frat Warrior Fatigues (which I used to complete the quest). Am I not allowed to get buffed anymore or is this a bug? Either answer should be added to the wiki. --Hogger 01:35, 15 July 2007 (CDT)

I too can not receive the buffs for completing the quest as a frat. I've tried to get it with the war frat outfit and in just regular bland clothing. No dice with either outfit. I did send it in as a bug (I did get the effect once after completing the quest, but never since then) but no word yet. I think it should be added to the wiki that there is a bug unless someone can confirm that the adventure is not broken and I'm doing it wrong somehow.... --Devdogg 15:51, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

So it seems that there are actually no intermediate messages between the first rock band flyer message and the quest completion message - I was checking the arena after each successfully slapped flyer, and Trendy McPoppedCollar went from Wesley Willis despondency to questly-completion ecstasy in one adventure. Odd. --Uknowforkids 10:02, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Completing the quest clearly isn't just a matter of distributing a certain number of fliers, because I just distributed about 100 of them and I'm still getting the first message (You check in at the amphitheater and see the hippy promoter rigging together two tin cans and a length of string. "Y'know," he says, "it's not that I don't appreciate your help, but I don't think you've been promoting as hard as you might could. I mean, with the current popularity of this band, these two cans and the string are going to be our P.A. system.") when I come back to the arena, Hippy disguise obviously. Do you have to go to a certain number of different locations, or certain specific locations?--Jett 07:48, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

I've tried switching between outfits, and it gives the appropriate band for the outfit but same message. However, I did 100 adventures yesterday at the junkyard alone, some more today, and some more the day before, I'd estimate 130-140 uses, I wondered if it's just taking the higher number of the two flyer types and ignoring uses of the other; I was switching between them to see if that made any difference. Needs further testing however, I was fairly random about which I was using when, so it could be that whenever I checked in each outfit, they were at the same level of use.

It did unlock with only 5 flyers used elsewhere (The Lighthouse today, just before I finished the Arena Quest, but that didn't do it, had to go back to the junkyard to complete it), and it raised to nearly unlocked before I used them anywhere else.

Edit: I see the Radioactive Child concert while wearing either outfit, even though I'm sure that I finished the quest with the War Hippy fatigues. So it may be related to which flyer type you used the most. I was probably doing Rock for a little longer, because I got those before Jam. --Zeitgeist 17:38, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

Edit: I did a little bit of work with the Jam flyers:

 25 - second message
 45 - third message
 70 - fourth message
 95 - fifth message

most of the adventures were done on the ninja snowmen, except for 5 or so at the junkyard between the second and third messages. I spent some adventures advertising the rock band yesterday (probably fewer than 10), so I don't know if that affects my results or not. I should also point out that I was checking back at the arena every 5 adventures, and that I was adventuring in the hippy war outfit. I can also confirm that visiting the arena in the opposite outfit gives you the same message for the opposite band (so in my case, I'm currently seeing the fifth message for the rock band even though I haven't been advertising it today). So it's possible that the uses of the flyers add together.--Anmbia 03:56, 29 June 2007 (CDT)

I've spent about 80 adventures spread over DeGrassi Knoll, Fernswarthy's Tower, Outskirts of Cobb's Knob, and Spooky Forest (mostly) and still get the first message. Do you perhaps get more credit for harder fights or a diversity of areas posted? --Herveus 13:31, 3 July 2007 (CDT)

I speculate that it has more to do with monster level than with a particular number of flyers. Adventuring in the Hole in the Sky with +35 monster level, I'm getting a new message at the arena a lot quicker than other people seem to be reporting. Unfortunately I haven't kept exact track of the numbers I've put out. Perhaps the number of flyers you give out doesn't matter because it counts the total monster level of the monsters to which you've affixed flyers. Has anyone else noticed something like this? --Sadoatcakes 16:55, 4 July 2007 (CDT)

  • You know, that would make a lot of sense. I spent quite a few turns in the Middle Chamber using them, and it seemed to go from one state to the next fairly quickly; then for some reason I decided that maybe it had to do with not so much how many times you used them, but how many locations you used them in, or how many unique monsters you used them on - and it started to go more slowly (because I was hitting up low-level areas). I think you may be exactly right. --Id the Mildly Confused 18:47, 4 July 2007 (CDT)
  • Well, I wanted to get good data to put into the table, but for some reason the Frat Orc side of the quest doesn't seem to want to give intermediate messages. Still, it went from beginning to unlocked in some 50 or so turns, I'd guess, in pretty high-level areas with +69ML - for what that's worth. --Id the Mildly Confused 11:38, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Enemy Strength/Number of fliers distributed

I'm going to go with my rule of thumb, here. "When in doubt, put stuff into a table and hope it starts making sense". --TechSmurf 03:38, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

  • I'm modifying the table slightly to be more informative - hope you don't mind. ;D --Id the Mildly Confused 10:37, 5 July 2007 (CDT)
    • Not at all! I probably should've thought of that last night. I think it might be calculated off base ML, not modified ML, but we shall see once we've got more data. --TechSmurf 12:51, 5 July 2007 (CDT)
Turns Location +ML
First message-> Second
11 The Middle Chamber +37
Second message-> Third
11 The Middle Chamber +37
Third message-> Fourth
11 The Middle Chamber +37
Fourth message-> Fifth
10 The Middle Chamber +37
Fifth message-> Sixth
11 The Middle Chamber +37

Odd. It only took 10 adventures to get from 4th->5th. I thinking it could be one of two things-- I miscounted (which I'm pretty sure I didn't do. I kept an adventure tally and checked against my effect durations.), or I fought more Tomb Bats those ten turns. They seem to be a bit stronger than the Itti Kitties and Tomb Servants, if the Middle Chamber page is accurate. --TechSmurf 13:43, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

I was able to complete the quest with only 60 fliers in the middle chamber with a new message every ten fliers. As a side note i distributed them as a hippy in the middle chamber. --master chunk 12:44, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

  • You're positive it was only 10 adventures? Were you running ML above +37? --TechSmurf 12:51, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Distribution Messages?

Is this right? I'm pretty sure I got the 4th message before the 3rd one.

  • Mine were out of order too, I had the message about the gentleman with monocles then the one about the hippies thinking theyve already been to the concert. Discordance 07:55, 8 July 2007 (CDT)

Getting defeated

Out of curiosity, were any of you defeated in battles after putting up a flyer? I'm wondering about the effect that has. Dolohov 14:44, 8 July 2007 (CDT)

Empty Stage

I did the quest as a Frat but finished the main quest as a Hippy. Now when I go to the Arena, it gives me the message: "The stage at the Mysterious Island Arena is empty." And it has the frown face in the picture frame above it. Has anyone else done this/received this message? --Billlbo 00:03, 16 July 2007 (CDT)

  • I got the same thing, but by earning the Wossname. Same result, I suppose. --Quietust (t|c) 16:43, 23 July 2007 (CDT)
  • I also got the empty stage message after getting the wossname, but I've completed the quest as a hippy once after doing the side-quest as a frat. --Wonka Loof 13:32, 17 August 2007 (CDT)

Same thing here, IIRC, I did the Wossname, completing the Arena as a Frat, but the final battle as a Hippy (as I did the Hippy half required for the medal second). The weird thing is, I still get the daily meat drop at the Hippy Store, despite this... so it seems like a bug and not a feature...? --Glukthar 06:10, 25 January 2008 (CST)

Haunted Bathroom

I don't know what the exact total monster level is, but I finished this start to finish in just under 40 adventures. At the time I didn't think to count the ratio of combat encounters. I spent the whole time in the haunted bathroom without checking back in the arena for progress. It seemed like a good place knock this off quick. I was buffed with sneakiness and a ring of conflict. As soon as I hit the guy made of bees on the fifth hit of the mirror adventure, I checked back at the arena and was finished. I didn't have any ML increasers either. Funkslinging would be pretty useful in getting a guy made of bee pollen as well. It might even offset the adventures used. Has anyone got any input as far as flyer hits with Smooth Movements or not fighting the guy made of bees? --Xclockwatcher 12:02, 31 August 2007 (CDT)

Xclockwatcher -- the Guy Made of Bees has insanely high ML, which is why you were able to finish so quickly (the quest is based on flyering things with a certain aggregate total ML). Flyering him automatically completes the quest requirements. --Glukthar 06:10, 25 January 2008 (CST)

advertised as hippies/frat boys

I think this should be changed to jam band flyers/rock band flyers You can advertise rock band flyers and go as a hippy and it is considered being completed as a frat boy. specifying what is used to advertise would clear this up --Warjunkie 03:11, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Okay, Why Is the Table Gone?

A quick look through the history says this happened like July 12th. Some guy came along and completely revamped the page, which is cool, but they also removed the entire table that showed an overview of the comparative effects, which is considerably less cool.

Why was this done? Why was it not undone? Am I the only person who found a quick table much easier to compare effects on than trying to parse through a longer sections split into paragraphs, while opening anywhere up to six extra pages (the effects of each ability) to figure out what I wanted to do with this quest? Do people figure that serious players already know which effects come from which decision and that the information is therefore no longer useful to have in a table format?

I would think this wiki enjoys the usefulness of tables, given how many table-based pages we have (the Semi-Rare page and the food-comparison pages, just for examples). Tables are great, and they are ways to allow information to be swiftly parsed and compared. I don't really know whether the table ought to be on the main arena page, on the arena quest page, or on the Mysterious Island Quest page itself, but it ought to be somewhere, easy to find and peruse when you're trying to decide how to best aim your questing. So please put it back somewhere (preferably long before the next time I end up trying to figure out which side of the war I want to be on). Thank you. Kilyle (talk) 08:32, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

  • To what page are you referring? I can't find any edit on this page from "July 12th" (what year?), nor can I find a table that ever existed from a few cursory glances (ie. a small selection of revisions). I'm sure it was just an oversight that's easily fixable, but not without knowing where said table is located. — Cool12309 (talk) 18:34, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
  • Were you looking for this quick summary of rewards? Like Cool, I can't find evidence of a table ever existing. --timrem (talk) 05:37, 24 August 2015 (UTC) Edit: I do like tables, so here's a quick one I threw together. --timrem (talk) 18:04, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
