could this be the new "queue manipulation"? --Trek Terp

Use of the item?

Seems to me that, at least according to the description, this item will let you fight any monster you want. looks cool to me, but we'll have to wait to find out. at least 198 more days. --RoadLord

I honestly hope it's not that long. Hopefully song 5 Lucre quests will pop up or something. Otherwise the shop is going to really suck. --Worddoc 13:31, 26 June 2007 (CDT)

I was thinking it might be for getting ultra rares easier. Like RoadLord said it will take 6 months before anybody could know, and if you see it as something that could let you attack a monster of your choice, you might be able to pick the monsters that you have to kill to get the items. I am not sure how this plays into the idea of the odor extractor, but it makes a little bit of sense. It will take someone half a year to get this item and use it. That is a huge chuck of time, and could be considered by Jick and the team to be worth an Ultra Rare.

For some reason, I'm getting the feeling that these and the odor extractors might be connected. Something along the lines of, to add it as huntable through the skill, you have to have extracted odor from the monster once? I don't know. We shall see though. Blargon 23:53, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

My guess is that it gives you a skill with functionality identical to an odor extractor, but without the lucre cost each time. ie: use the skill against a monster, and get the effect "On the Trail" for a while. Of course, this means that it's only worth it for collectors, or people who want a lot of Bounty-Os or Oreille Divisee. --jolson4 13:30, 1 July 2007 (CDT)

  • Using the Odor Extractor skill is not just useful for more bounty hunting. I can think of many areas and quests where finding the same monster again easier would be particularly useful (Goatlet, for one obvious example)--Creamy 13:36, 1 July 2007 (CDT)

It'd sure be funny if...

... it turned out to be a single-use item.--Sprad 07:32, 26 June 2007 (CDT)

Given its a tome it probably is single use giving a skill that lets you smell out a particular monster, the smell presumably being obtained with the odor extractor. Discordance 09:28, 26 June 2007 (CDT)

  • Well, considering the odor extractor greatly increases your chance of fighting the monster you've use it on already, what do you think the chances are that this gives a re-usable combat skill that does the same thing? Azrane 02:32, 27 June 2007 (CDT)
  • That was exactly what I was thinking. It seems quite likely. It also is extremely likely that this skill, whatever it may be, is not worth it. At the approx. 40 adv/day to get a filthy lucre, and 200 filthy lucre, this is going to cost at least 8,000 adventures. Ouch. All that wouldn't be so horribly bad, but it'll also take 200 days at a minimum, while crippling your turncount each and every day there. Not only that, but it's non-tradeable, so no doing this on a multi and using KoLmafia. :(--DaemonStryker 14:48, 27 June 2007 (CDT)
    • That'd be multi abuse anyhow. --Improv 17:12, 21 July 2007 (CDT)
  • It's no more ridiculous than what has to be done for certain trophies, really. It's only 40 adventures a day if it's a pure-combat zone - if it's got plenty of noncombats, adding a song or skill in drops the average to 35 or 30ish. Figure it'll only add a few days to each level 30 trophy run. Agburanar 11:13, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

Well... it could be less than 200 days since you can get a second lucre on days of ascension. But yeah, long time. Lucasw 14:54, 27 June 2007

  • You can get a second lucre on days of ascension, but don't forget that the quests are designed to take 40 adventures, which is how many adventures you usually get at rollover. Unless you can complete a fast ascension with only Extra Rollover Adventures, adventures from Food, Booze, and Spleen items, I don't see anyone cutting down the time using ascension. --CG1:t,c,e 17:20, 21 July 2007 (CDT)
    • I can easily see people using casualcore to significantly reduce the number of days it will take them to get the item. --Veistran 18:29, 21 July 2007 (CDT)

I'm guessing this book is like the Codex of Capsaicin Conjuration or the Glacial Grimoire - only it will make all spells cast stench-damage spells. I think they added another book out there for sleazy and/or spooky spells.

--Corak 20:16, 6 August 2007 (CDT)

those books already exist -_-.... --Myst44 11:11, 8 August 2007 (CDT)

95% (maybe 98% sure depending on my mood ;)) that this Tome will give a skill allowing you to summon X amount of odor extractors (it had better be 3+) per day and would be most useful in conjunction with the hound dog. -MarcyRoni 22:46, 9 August 2007 (CDT)

  • As the skill seems to be marked combat, I highly doubt it summons odor extractors. I would guess it does something similar to the way they work though, and allows you to lock on to the scent of the monster you are fighting when you use the skill. --J12601 23:01, 9 August 2007 (CDT)
    • It's marked as combat? Really? (Curious as to how that was found out). Ah well. -MarcyRoni 09:20, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
      • Go to the Transcendent Olfaction page and click on the skill pop-up listed there while you're logged-in to the appropriate server number. Someone's assumed that the skill comes from the book (which seems reasonable). The skill description pop-ups have really simple description ID numbers, so the pop-up was discovered handily. --Bagatelle 09:49, 19 August 2007 (CDT)
        • Thanks! That makes logical sense, even if it is a bit of a guess at what it does. -MarcyRoni 21:45, 22 August 2007 (CDT)

Time until tome

wgitc is regularly doing 2-dayers[1], and already has 122 lucre in his display case. At 2 per day, it'll take him 39 days--around October 26, assuming he doesn't take any more breaks (basement diving?), so hopefully we'll know by Halloween what the tome does, if he's good enough to share it with us. Also close are StrapOnSally (101), Sir Cheddar (98). --Deusnoctum 01:52, 17 September 2007 (CDT)

  • Meaningless point here, but wgitc is a lady. >.> --Ricket 19:21, 17 September 2007 (CDT)
    • Er...whoops, apologies. As an aside, Mundania has 139 lucre, though I'm not sure how he (or she) has that many with only a few ascension. --Deusnoctum 02:46, 19 September 2007 (CDT)
      • Exploiting. Yay. -MarcyRoni 23:20, 19 September 2007 (CDT)

Marked as HP

My transcendent olfaction doesn't have the Hardcore Permanent mark on it! Why?Lotusduck 10:49, 9 May 2008 (CDT)

Yes it does. It's listed twice. --Bagatelle 16:32, 10 May 2008 (CDT)
Why does it do that? That's weird. --Stannius 17:12, 18 June 2008 (CDT)

Really wacky question: what happens if you have Transcendent Olfaction as HP, but you save up and try to use a second Manual of T.O.? Has anyone been disturbed enough to try this? --Glukthar 20:21, 15 August 2008 (CDT)

  • Dear lord, man. Now that you've raised the question, one of us is going to do it. Or at any rate, I'll start asking around to see if anyone has a second tome. --TechSmurf 20:30, 15 August 2008 (CDT)
    • We also need someone to purchase 2 or more at once so we can get the plural. --Flargen 20:53, 15 August 2008 (CDT)
      • I'm on both of these, if no one else is. I was planning to collect these in my DC anyway... --Sparksol (t|c) 10:06, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
