Reference?

"Jack Mormons" are non-practicing, cultural Mormons. is this likely to be a reference? I don't know of any other usage of the word "jack" to describe a non-practicing member of anything. Eran of Arcadia 17:52, 11 September 2007 (CDT)

  • The jack part is to describe the flappers from the twenties in the description. --Chunky_boo 14:10, 12 September 2007 (CDT)
    • Well, that's what the "flappers" part is about, but why else specifically mention "women in the twenties who claimed to be flappers but didn't really practice. Practice... uh... wearing hats... with feathers on them."? In other words, how else would the word "jack" connect to "flapper"? Eran of Arcadia 18:58, 12 September 2007 (CDT)
      • What I was saying is the term jack flapper really did exist it was to describe a "flapper" that didn't practice, that is how it connects to the word jack. --Chunky_boo 19:08, 12 September 2007 (CDT)
        • So, the term "jack flapper" really was used like that? That's interesting, never heard of that before. I will look that up. Eran of Arcadia 07:19, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
          • Now I am a little skeptical. I googled the term "jack flapper" and all I got were a few references to the KoL item, a few people named Jack Flapper, and a toilet part by that name. Apparently nowhere on the internet does anyone use the term to describe "jack" flappers. Eran of Arcadia 07:23, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
            • Was flapper a 1920's term for a prostitute? also, wasn't the saveing the bird movement in the '20's , the one with the funny name? ODST 4:15, 9 December 2008
  • Well, I asked Jick, and on the 5/7/09 radio show he said it is a Jack Mormon reference. Eran of Arcadia 14:13, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Possible Pancake Reference

In some places, a pancake is called a flapjack: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flapjack --DarkArcherPrince 19:59, 7 August 2011 (CEST)
