Heap Goodies

I think it might be helpful to see how many times people receive each item. Some items might be more common than others. So we would need to add to the count each time we came here to post an existing item. - Rahmuss 15:13, 27 June 2008 (CDT)

ITEMS ONLY ACCESSIBLE FROM HERE (sub-list of the above):

What's people have gotten thus far: worthless knick-knack, box, stick, ice-cold Sir Schlitz, pr0n legs, stuffing, spooky powder, blood flower, asbestos crossbow string, ice-cold Willer, lead necklace, Asbestos sword hilt, Filthy hippy poncho.

--TechSmurf 10:33, 20 June 2008 (CDT)

I found a bottle of King Ralph IX cognac while looking in there. --Tripwood 15:44, 20 June 2008 (CDT)

I found the same cognac, plus a rock and a big rock. -- --Rufus T Firefly 20:24, 21 June 2008 (CDT)

Seems like exactly 8 trashcano eruptions are enough to unlock this adventure (assuming no compost removed) - in all likelihood, taking out the trash from The Purple Light District would also help maximize treasure hunts. --Quietust (t|c) 08:40, 24 June 2008 (CDT)

  • ...of course, now I got another one after nine trashcano eruptions, though this one was also kind enough to give me some cognac. --Quietust (t|c) 08:59, 24 June 2008 (CDT)
    • This run, my first refuse was after 4 eruptions. The second was after 8 more (12 total). If it might be relevant, my stench resistance is at High, plus I'm a myst class. I've noticed that the adventure seems to occur after the stench aura damage can do up to 20 damage to me (range of 18-20), both this run and the previous one. Did you or anyone else move trash out of the heap or do anything else to affect the heap when you got the 9 eruption refuse, Quietust? --Flargen 00:45, 3 July 2008 (CDT)

I just got one after 4 trashcano eruptions.--Casey Trombonist of Doom 00:31, 26 June 2008 (CDT)

Was this your first cycle? Also, could it be that the occurrence of this adventure is releated to your stench resistance? --Flargen 00:33, 26 June 2008 (CDT)
It was my first time getting that adventure. I had no stench resistance as far as I know. Do you think that the probability of getting the adventure is related to how many trashcano eruptions have been caused. As in the more trashcano eruptions the better chance of getting the adventure instead of a certain number unlocking the adventure.--Casey Trombonist of Doom 14:16, 26 June 2008 (CDT)
I'm wondering if the amount of trash / compost at the heap needs to be a certain number (say 10) and then doing a trashcano triggers the possibility of getting this adventure. For example, if you move compost to the burial grounds maybe it subtracts from that total, and on the other end maybe moving trash from PLD to the heap adds to that number. It would probably start at either zero or 10. So if you did a trashcano with it at 10, then you could get the adventure; but if you move compost out, then it takes a few more trashcanos (each trashcano adds 1 itself). - Rahmuss 15:20, 27 June 2008 (CDT)
I guess that's possible, but I didn't move any compost or trash or anything while I adventured there and none of my clan mates were adventuring while I was nor did they adventure there before I did and I still got the adventure with 4 trashcanos. Is it possible that it just has a really low occurance rate? Higher than a semi-rare but lower than the other noncombats?--Casey Trombonist of Doom 15:50, 28 June 2008 (CDT)
The calculation for this adventure may be off somewhat. I got this adventure on a new instance of the Heap (image=0), with no trash sent from the PLD, and only 1 trashcano. The items received were rather low-grade (fat stack of cash, beer lens, tasket). I wonder if the items received are related to the image# or the amount of stench, or both. --Martavius

Just a note, I got a shirt without torso, so no check for that --Duzell 21:20, 24 June 2008 (CDT)

Does it maybe give you 2 common items and 1 more rare item? We got an Asbestos sword hilt. - Rahmuss 14:49, 25 June 2008 (CDT)

Moar Data! First dive - Uncooked Chorizo, flaming crutch, gob of wet hair. Second dive - lihc eye, disease, rock. I think that kinda rules out that it's 2 common and 1 rare... and proves the RNG hates me :( --Denarius 17:36, 25 June 2008 (CDT)

Things I have gotten: stringy sinew, fruitcake, yeti fur and furry pants. and a few other non exciting items. In other news, should we maybe make a table or list to help with the spading of this?--CheezyBob 17:44, 25 June 2008 (CDT)

  • dead guy's piece of double-sided tape, Ralph IX cognac, urinal cake

=> getting one "good" thing doesn't exclude getting more, hence probably completely random. --Mtfns 21:41, 2 July 2008 (CDT)

I haven't taken a good look; but do these items correspond to items found at the location we get hobo codes from? I also wonder if they correspond to something else, because if the items are a completely random drawing from every item that exists, then it seem pretty coicidental that we are getting so many repeats. - Rahmuss 21:07, 3 July 2008 (CDT)

Another 5 results, spread across a couple of characters.

  • pretty flower, linoleum crossbow string, fruitcake
  • Ice-cold six pack, yak skin, filthy hippy poncho
  • valuable trinket, hippopotamus skin, filthy hippy poncho
  • Gnoll teeth, chrome sword hilt, plastic passion fruit
  • rusty metal shaft, linoleum stick, gob of wet hair.

If things corresponded to where the hobo codes were, how would that effect items that don't technically drop (pretty flower, anything that doesn't drop now)? --Denarius 17:42, 6 July 2008 (CDT)

So, could this drop things like URs or Mr. Store items? I'm thinking it's a no, but it never hurt to check =D ДҖ--Finalheaven63talk 00:06, 12 July 2008 (CDT)

The fact that the list has not increased very much; but the amount of items already in the list has increased should tell us that there are a limited amount of items in the database it pulls from. Is there any correlation to the items numbers??? I'll have to look into that. - Rahmuss 22:44, 14 July 2008 (CDT)

Treasure hunted 6 more times today and only added one item to the above list (old leather wallet) all others were repeats. So the list definitely looks limited to a few items compared to the thousands of items which exit in game. - Rahmuss 18:07, 16 July 2008 (CDT)

On a whim, I reassembled a clover before hitting the Heap. Drops from the junkpile: dead guy's piece of double-sided tape, Ralph IX cognac, furry pants. Could be a coincidence, but that's the first time I got either of the semi rares; to get both is fairly strong for a random drop. - Martavius

I think you just got exceptionally lucky, Martavius. I ran the heap twice today, first time I got a clover, a chrome sword hilt and a gob of wet hair, second time (with the clover intact) I got another clover, a blood flower and a disease. The clover wasn't used up or activated in any way. --Denarius 20:48, 26 July 2008 (CDT)

Simultaneous Hunts

It has been observed that it is possible to get several treasure hunts at once without having to rebuild the stench level. Once one person gets this adventure, they can just sit on it without choosing anything until everyone else who wants to hunt gets the adventure. Once they all have it, people can explore at will, with no apparent negative repercussions.

Well, almost no apparent repercussions. While doing this with my clanmate this evening, it seemed like the stench level had to be increased by one for the second person to get in on the action. I was sitting on the adventure, with the stench level at 8, while my clannie spent some 160 turns trying to get it without increasing the stench; then he set of a trashcano and got the adventure less than 5 turns later. Trying to get the stench level to 8 by redirecting 6 trashes and setting off 2 trashcanos also didn't seem to let the second person get the adventure without further increasing the stench. We were running out of adventures on that second experiment (thanks to the 160 turn previous one), and our Heap is nearly completed as well (for the same reason). So I can't provide any further experimentation on this for awhile. Anyone else observed this? --Flargen 02:02, 14 July 2008 (CDT)

Definitely worth looking into. I had thought it reset upon getting the adventure; but if you can get it by increasing the level with just one more increase, then that's worth trying. - Rahmuss 22:42, 14 July 2008 (CDT)

Me and another clannie both went trashdiving with the stench level at 8. It only took about 20 adventures for him to get the adventure after I sat on it.--AleCross 00:58, 8 August 2008 (CDT)

I got a clover but I wasn't in bad moon--makarina 09:26, 7 September 2008 (CDT)

A new theory for obtaining I refuse! and simultaneous hunts

I've observed that the 7 + N theory does not seem to hold true in practice. I've seen 7 + 5 (12) stench and 6 or 7 people get the I refuse! adventure. I've also notice that I get I refuse! much much faster when the stench level gets around 12-14, and further, that as more people get I refuse!, the number of adventures it takes to get I refuse! increases relative to the stench level and the number of divers.

These observations suggest that each stench level increasing adventure above 7 seems to increase the probability of getting the I refuse! adventure, and that each person receiving the adventure reduces the probability of that the next person will find the adventure, until that probability drops below zero. This in turn means that people running 15% will be able to get I refuse! where people with 0% will not be able to find I refuse! at the same stench level.

I'd like to see if this can be verified by anyone else. Saucybandit 20:55, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

I just got I Refuse after only four trashcanos, which I didn't think was possible. I had 19% non-combats. PLD was not open yet. Another clannie caused one more trashcano and then got it. --Umma 20:33, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

After a fellow clannie and I had jumped in the junkpile once, we started eight more trashcanos and he reached I Refuse again. I then spent about 140 turns at +15% non-combat, skipping the trashcano adventures, and NEVER reached I Refuse. Obviously I should have read this talk page first, but I think the evidence for Saucybandit's theory is strong enough to merit inclusion in the main article. --Professor Why 09:54, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Rollover Joys for those who wait

Previously, I decided to wait for clannies and ended up being unable to log back in for the day. The last time that happened (some time over the summer), I noticed that I was able to go trashdiving first thing the next day I logged in. I *just* verified this again today! Further, a clannie killed Oscus after I was done yesterday, so the zone is complete but I STILL got to trashdive. Can someone else validate? --Codsmack 06:15, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Verified. If you enter the I Refuse! choice adventure, you will be able to search the heap anytime during the run, even after Oscus is dead. However, I don't think this is possible after the sewers are reflooded. --gregmasta 05:25, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I noticed from looking at some toymaking components that the Heap is now the only way to get certain toymaking components. However, the ToyWheel is not available anywhere (so says the wiki) - it's the only one of the elements not available somewhere in-game. Firstly, does this mean it's possibly in the Heap but hasn't yet been declared? Secondly, might it show up elsewhere (e.g., under the sea), making all elements available again? And thirdly, is the presence of toymaking components mostly an atmosphere thing (since it's reasonable to find toy parts in the trash) or might it be an indication that toymaking will become available again, opening up the possibility of toys that up till now were gone for good? --Kilyle 08:42, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

  • I take it as an atmosphere thing, I don't think toymaking is likely to return. So, the lack of any particular toy part is not very important. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:45, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Doc Items

So, I noticed that all 3 of the items you could give to Doc Galaktik for the Miracle Cure, during the Grey Plague era, are in the heap. If you get one, can you get a cure, or is the item essentially worthless now? --Jimfromtx 09:30, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
