Spog?

  • I'm not precisely sure where this word is coming from. "Spog" has meanings in Danish (a prank) and in Gaelic (Scots and Irish) with meanings in slang near "to conceal" and literally as "a paw." Given the pixie's apparent Gaelic similarities, I'd think the word was pulled from those roots, but I can't be sure.--Dorf (Talk | Contribs) 14:10, 2 June 2007 (CDT)
  • Also, this is a bit like a sporran, but again not spot-on.--Dorf (Talk | Contribs) 14:10, 2 June 2007 (CDT)
  • Don't beat yourself up on the etymology. It's a Discworld reference.--Toffile 14:38, 2 June 2007 (CDT)
Hah, fair enough. I just don't remember "spog" being used specifically in the books, but maybe my recall isn't what it should be.--Dorf (Talk | Contribs) 14:46, 2 June 2007 (CDT)
  • I've added the exact quote and book (well, at least one of the books; not sure if it appears in more than one) if you're curious. Cheers. --Harry Crimboween 23:04, 4 June 2007 (CDT)
