I recently got this fortune, which doesn't appear to be on the list.

"Avast, matey! P'raps ye could be doin' with a new familiarrr?"

I am currently post Orc Chasm, no quest remaining, and I have a 20 pound pet. --Ilitchev 20:58, 14 October 2006 (CDT)

Sorry, didn't see someone else had noted it --Ilitchev 21:01, 14 October 2006 (CDT)

I just opened 14 fortune cookies, so I think these are probably all of the different fortunes. If I did anything wrong, please let me know.

Ok, as of rollover TODAY, fortune cookies have a new option listed beneath them. Smash. When you smash one, it says

"You brutally smash the fortune cookie. There is a scrap of paper inside: (here it gives the fortunes just like normal) It looks like there were some lucky numbers printed on the bottom of the fortune, but they got torn off when you smashed the cookie."

So, it looks like you can get your quest hints, now, without using up fullness, but the semi-rare counter still requires you to sacrifice some of your food use ;p I smashed over 300 cookies, and all were exactly the same. (different fortunes, of course!) Perhaps there will be a trophy for smashing like a million of them, or something else insane like that. But other than that remote possibility, I think this is all the change does. --KhayPrower 22:35, 6 January 2008 (CST)

  • Fortune cookies have a fullness of 1. I ate two bowls of Hell ramen and 3 of these today. --MaxVance 21:23, 26 September 2006 (CDT)
  • Woo. I'm making this my first project as a KoLwiki user to help with the changes made today. -- Grinnblade 21:25, 26 September 2006 (CDT)

Don't miss your daily chance to claim a totally tuberular familiar!

  • The first character didn't have a goat, pirate skeleton, or a sabre-toothed lime and was up to the trash quest but didn't make a beanstalk yet. The second one made it to the sorceress's quest and doesn't have a star starfish, a limem a goat or a potato (tubular). I didn't list repeats on among a multi.--UglyPanda 21:41, 26 September 2006 (CDT)
  • This is going to be one LOOOOONG page, isn't it? -- Grinnblade 22:10, 26 September 2006 (CDT)

After defeating the NS and freeing the king, all i got was: The stars suggest you go back to your campsite and do some reading.--Jubbers 22:15, 26 September 2006 (CDT)

I got

  • The early bird gets the worm. But you're not after worms, so just keep killing stuff.
  • The stars suggest you go back to your campsite and do some reading.

on a level 7 character with the Crypt, Bugbear, and Doc Galaktik quests.-Foggy 22:19, 26 September 2006 (CDT)

Messages I haven't seen on the Wiki or Talk pages:

  • If you're going to fight the sorceress, you're gonna need some empty calories, some ambience, and a limp drink.
  • If you're stuck, reread your Quest Log - it puts the FUN back into FrUstratiNg!--Discordia 23:15, 26 September 2006 (CDT)

Another one:

  • Help! I'm trapped in a fortune cookie factory. (I laughed over that one) Hedonia 16:52, 30 September 2006 (CDT)Hedonia

Another one: I am on the Fat Fryers quest only at the moment: If you're having trouble finding something, keep looking.

Formatting

The format of this page in its current form is difficult to read. Why don't we condense it so we don't have the same text over and over again with, "The fortune cookie tastes delicious. There's a scrap of paper inside! You gain 1 Adventure. You gain 1 Fullness."? We'd have the box right after that, and put "Message" in it, and then have the messages you can get below that. --LucySpace (Talk|Cntrbs) 22:40, 26 September 2006 (CDT)

  • Should we have a section for messages that don't relate to quests. There are probably a lot of those and I don't see any on there yet.--Mustard 09:14, 29 September 2006 (CDT)

more messages

As well as expected messages I'm getting others: "Sometimes violence is not the answer. This is not one of those times." "Remember, the persistent bird gets the eldritch objects. And is worth two in the bush." I'm level 6, quest status: bossbat (used 3 sonars), goblin king, bugbear quest (bring mushroom), and return the screwdriver all (correctly) listed as incomplete on the quest log. I got the known goblin king message, and the daily dungeon keys ones so it doesn't just hint about the lowest level quest (bossbat), but probably cycles through all available. (sometimes violence is not the answer came up about 3 in 7 times though, so there could be a weighting towards it.) These sound like kill the bossbat messages, but we'll need someone who doesn't have other quests to test that.Teffania

At level 8, with access to the Pirate's Cove but without either the barrrnacle or spooky pirate skeleton: "Avast, matey! P'raps ye could be doin' with a new familiarrr?" -- The preceding unsigned message was written by Foggy at 16:28, 12 April 2007

Level 13, having done everything except beat the NS, after losing to her twice: "How powerful is the Sorceress? How powerful are you?" --Jonrock 02:30, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

I forgot, I didn't do everything, so I also got this for not starting my of-steel quest: "Seek and ye shall find / Subtle are evil's designs / So go to Hey Deze." --Jonrock 02:42, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

I do have a wand, but I got this message anyway: "If you don't have the RIGHT WEAPON to fight the Sorceress, you'll be underground like A GOPHER TWIN." --Jonrock 02:46, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

When my lucky number reached 0: "Just keep clicking, just keep clicking, clicking clicking clicking..." --Jonrock 02:49, 12 July 2007 (CDT)

@Jonrock: That's a generic message. --MrAndersonMan 03:06, 14 July 2007 (CDT)

Ok. I tried the cookies when I got stuck on the lvl 11 quest and the only information I got was "Your fathers MacGuffin diary contains many useful things" which I might add was less tehn helpful since I had already used all the info in that one and had trouble getting onwards (ie I didn't know that I had to use the glasses to look for the trapdoor). SO a tips: DOn't use cookies for the lvl 11 quest. --Winterbay 05:03, 15 July 2007 (CDT)

To get into Beelzebozo's lair, you'll need to trick his security system into letting you in... I got this message with the Epic Weapon, but without beating Beelzebozo yet. -Goffrie 11:45, 15 July 2007 (CDT)

Ate a cookie and got a message: Why do you think they call them mercenaries? Don't know if it matters, but I've done all the quests and have all the non-store familiars except dreidl and puppy. Starker 04:27, 10 November 2007 (CST)

I have defeated the Naughty Sorceress, and I don't have Liver of Steel, Stomach of Steel, or Spleen of Steel. I got the following message: Seek and ye shall find Subtle are evil's designs So go to Hey Deze.--Knobula 00:03, 17 January 2008 (CST)

I've already freed King Ralph; ate a fortune cookie for the lucky numbers, received this message: "Infiltration is a tricky business -- good thing you've got several options for how to proceed." I have no idea what this could be telling me to do.--Knobula 15:03, 26 January 2008 (CST)

"Don't forget! Large dogs are MUCH harder to kill than little dogs." No idea, where that belongs to. All quests except for level 11 and 13 done, LEW quest not finished, opened oasis, wine cellar, palindome, hidden city, none of them finished. --Friederike 14:42, 16 May 2008 (CDT)

Lucky Numbers don't reset with rollover! Whoo!

Or I'm just really lucky. I ran out of adventures with 29 left, today, 29 adventures later, I get irradiated pet snacks in one click. They're super in Hardcore, BTW. --MrAndersonMan 03:06, 14 July 2007 (CDT)

Semi-Rare Adventures Page

Maybe there should be a page titled "Semi-Rare Adventures" to match Clover Adventures. --CG1:t,c,e 21:02, 14 July 2007 (CDT)

Is All The Rave in The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky, which gives Mick's IcyVapoHotness Inhaler, another semi-rare adventure that should be added to the list? --Baltar 19:18, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Has anyone tried sleeping or mining a non-twinkly spot in the mine during the semi-rare adventure-by-number? --Sparksol 00:16, 20 July 2007 (CDT)

'Fortune' cookies and Bad moon

Read there are some adventures where u loose a body part or some permanent effect adventures in bad moon? could this fortune mechanism be the trigger to prevent such negative adventures in said path?--Myst44 03:45, 16 July 2007 (CDT)

  • On VERY limited testing (I.E. one test) the Bad Moon negative page came around when the Fortune Cookie would be around 9, rather than 0. --Lucasw 08:20, 17 July 2007 (CDT) Edit: Nevermind... just had one go off about 40 turns later, seemingly unrelated to the new Fortune Cookie amount. --Lucasw 08:42, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Lime

Ive already defeated the NS, but have no lime or barnacle...I got both messages from the Fortune Cookies.--Foggy 10:25, 16 July 2007 (CDT)

New message?

"We're not trying to get your goat, but you'd better get several."

Ascension matters?

I've got a couple multis to test this on... I tried doing the trick to predict semi-rare adventures, and it worked on one multi, but not the others. The one it worked on has ascended (pre-NS13), and the other two never have (both of them pre-NS13). Thoughts? The numbers just kept changing... Jameslovelock 09:42, 27 December 2007 (CST)

  • There are some exceptions to the numbers being truthy, which were listed on Semi-Rare Adventures, but, curiously, not this article. --Bagatelle 13:15, 27 December 2007 (CST)

New Link

I just noticed that the fortune cookie now has a [smash] link. [smash]ing gives the text
You brutally smash the fortune cookie. There is a scrap of paper inside:
[fortune]
It looks like there were some lucky numbers printed on the bottom of the fortune, but they got torn off when you smashed the cookie.--

missing message

Got the following message while working on completing Azazel, Ma Belle: Seek and ye shall find Subtle are evil's designs So go to Hey Deze. Not really sure how to get a haiku to show properly in the page's current format, though (which is based on everything being a single line) --Flargen 00:12, 8 February 2008 (CST)

References?

  • Question: the references section states that the "Help! I'm trapped in a fortune cookie factory!" is a reference to Help! I'm Trapped... books by Todd Strasser. Now, I've never read these books, but I've heard the joke about the person trapped in the factory putting these types of messages in cookies (or whatever other medium the joke is currently using - although fortune cookies are the most common). Are the jokes themselves from the books?

--Amilianna 12:17, 17 April 2008 (CDT)

  • This sort of joke predates those books for sure. There was one as an easter egg in Mac OS 7, which is 1991/92 time frame, and I'm sure it wasn't a new joke then. Maybe if Jick & Co have said that's where it's from then it should stay, otherwise it should be reworded. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:09, 17 April 2008 (CDT)
  • Definitely predates it. A fixed reference is Detective Comics #383 (1969) contains that type of joke.--Toffile 17:49, 17 April 2008 (CDT)

Fortune cookies and paths

Is there any way to get the lucky numbers on a pathed run where you can't eat? Or is that just one of the benefits you have to give up when you accept the path? --Bobson 11:58, 6 May 2008 (CDT)

  • No there is not (well, except Teet path). And yes, it's one of the disadvantages to selecting a path. At least with Oxy you get a reduced semi-rare counter. Boozer just gets shafted. --Wildfire393 12:31, 6 May 2008 (CDT)

NS familiars battle

Got this message while I am trying to level my barrrnacle: "Losing a battle with a giant familiar is a good way to collect clues to win it." --Sykpupi 13:19, 10 May 2008 (CDT)Maggie

more sections!

Article should be divided into sections: tips on quests (separating the different quests), tips on getting familiars, general tips. this way it owuld be much easier to read and to keep track. Also maybe article should be only about fortune cookie item and all fortunes moved to a separate article --Hrag 03:09, 28 June 2008 (CDT)

Fortune cookie adventures...

This is very odd, I ate a fortune cookie today and got 3 adventures. I had "got milk" on but absolutely no munchies pills were taken. According to the milk of magnesium wiki entry I should only be getting 2 and this is the first time it's ever happened to me. Anyone else have this happen to them? --Silvan 07:20, 6 July 2008 (CDT)

Hmm, I am in BM...that would kindof make sense because I have a skill that increases adventure gain from food and one that decreases. That could be it because the one that increases is slightly more effective. --Silvan 17:40, 6 July 2008 (CDT)

NS Heavy Door and Light Door

Regretably, I didn't know the wiki didn't have it, so I didn't save it, but I got a message reflecting on the Heavy and Light Doors riddle challenge in the Sorceress' Tower.--PsychoBoy 11:25, 19 July 2008 (CDT)

Before unlocking Whitey's Grove?

Has anyone tried eating a fortune cookie after meeting Mr. Alarm and without having unlocked Whitey's Grove? I remember one time I realized I hadn't started the White Citadel quest yet in that point so I went to talk to the guild person who gives it, but if one was a newbie who doesn't read spoilers, it would be impossible to determine where to start searching for the ingredients, unless it's mentioned in the quest log (I didn't check). The names of lion oil and bird rib are palindromes so a person who haven't read any spoilers would be likely to start their search from the Palindome. Seko 20:52, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Blocked Access?

Today, on Arrrbor Day IV, consumption of 3 fortune cookies yielded only random results for me. All 3 cookies gave completely different numbers, no repetitions. Is this due to the holiday, a cross-effect of a munchies pill with Got Milk, or some combination of the 3 that would block access to seeing the semi-rare counter? It should be noted that I still had a semi-rare Adventure after planting 100+ saplings, I just had no idea of when it would be popping up.--LoonyLizard 22:39, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Did you fulfill all the conditions listed at Semi-Rare Adventures? --BagatelleT/C 02:53, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Obviously, since I did have a semi-rare adventure. Again, the question is what would block viewing of the counter, assuming one is not blocked from having a semi-rare adventure and ate the cookies to reveal the numbers?--LoonyLizard 07:39, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
  • I think Bagatelle wanted to know, did you consume the cookies at one of the times when then counter is known not to work, such as just after getting a semi-rare. You don't seem to have answered that. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:28, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
  • To reiterate, I was not using the fortune cookies immediately after having a semi-rare adventure, nor was I under the ascension restriction. If there are other conditions that I need to consider, Please list them, as I cannot find them in either the Semi-Rare Adventures page or in the Fortune Cookie page. Thank you. --LoonyLizard 17:11, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
    • Don't know what to tell you. In all the time since the mechanic was revealed, the only times the cookies have been "wrong" for me were when I personally screwed up, or was using a script and/or Mafia and it/they malfunctioned/interfered with each other. --BagatelleT/C 23:27, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I'm not very sure if I should post this here. I'm in a BM run, and just ate 3 cookies. 123, 133, 200+ (i don't remember the third number, i can only say it was higher than 200)/ 164, 22, 52 / 154, 3, 146. And my last semi-rare encounter was around 180 turns ago, so I was expecting a low number. This is the first time this ever happens to me, so I'm confused here. I'm currently full, so I can't eat anymore. Just wondering if anyone has come across a similar situation. EDIT: I hadn't read the post by LoonyLizard. It seems the problem was similar, any clue what went wrong? --Best22 12:35, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Sounds to me like your semi-rare is actually due right now. The fortune cookies can't show a zero, so you're just getting 3 random numbers instead. At least, that's what I think may be the problem. --Melon 12:49, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
  • there's also a cooling off period after the semi-rare adventure turn of around ten turns when the cookies won't show you what the number is, whether you get a semi-rare adventure or not. looks like you just missed it. 180 is probably too many in bad moon anyway. try 150 next time. or, like, 30. --Evilkolbot 13:03, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
    • Haha, I can't believe it, by pure luck I didn't miss it. It was the next turn! So, the counter had reached 0. No wonder all 9 numbers were random. I didn't know about the cooling off period, will have that in mind next time. --Best22 13:30, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

NS13

Just because I didn't see it noted anywhere else: You can, and will, still get the old (and now entirely irrelevant) Naughty Sorceress-related fortune clues. For example, I've already defeated the Sorceress and freed the King, but I just got: "The gates are vexing / The solutions are swallowed / Neither food nor booze." --Baltar (talk) 00:19, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Same here. I've defeated Sorceress and freed king, got this "You're going to have to alter your physical and mental state to pass through the gates. Read the text carefully, then scour the miscellaneous section of your inventory." --Tiny Plastic Andalite (talk) 11:55, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Range of fortune cookie numbers

I got 177, 229, 244, 276, 39, 38, 60. --Tiny Plastic Andalite (talk) 11:55, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Looking through my mafia logs, I've never gotten a number larger than 299, although it looks like it has gone as low as 4 before. I'm guessing the range is 1-299. --Volc (talk) 15:03, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

My mafia logs don't make it clear which numbers were random and which were semi-rares. However, I was able to find fortune cookies with both 1 and 2 which were right after collecting a semi-rare, so those are random numbers. --WhimOrClutters (talk) 20:51, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
