Talk:Desert Wind

Does anybody know if the old Desert Wind train line went through Twentynine Palms or if the new one that was recently proposed was going to? I think the new train was a line between Las Vegas and San Diego via Los Angeles and Riverside, etc., so it's not inconceivable that the proposed line would have gone through Twentynine Palms. Also, does anyone think it's worth mentioning that Desert Winds is a golf course in Twentynine Palms geared towards Marines? Ioeth 01:59, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

FYI: You have to buy the trophy before you ascend. I learned the hard way.Darkwolf 02:58, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Unlikly as, well, me not swearing

  • call me an old cynic, but the chance that no-one did this is so unlikely that i simply don't beleive that it's been around since NS13. when the palm fronds were being spaded i seem to remember i did all numbers up to at least fifty myself. this is made even more suspicious by the fact that jick and hotstuff just spent a month in california. pretty funny long running joke, though. "i really can't beleive no-one got this." literally LOL. --Evilkolbot 11:41, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
    • good god i'm dumb. --Evilkolbot 11:46, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
      • recovering from my embarrassment at an epic fail at reading comprehension i realise that it changes nothing. i still find it difficult to believe that however sub-optimal, no-one at all has done this in the x-ty months since ns13. --Evilkolbot 16:44, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
        • I can't believe someone didn't adventure 100 times in the bathroom with a plunger equipped. This one's a bit more...more eccentric since its either based off of 2 obscure films, or an obscure song. Even if someone were testing palm fans, they'd have to use some 422 fans before to get to this mark.--Toffile 17:18, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
        • er, someone did. i take your point about the suboptimal, though. still smells fishy. --Evilkolbot 17:47, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
        • time stamp on the trophy image is 08/05/2009, quite a while after ns13. i rest my case. --Evilkolbot 21:02, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

            • i'm a brit, so that date is in may. was that when CDM "tested" the "trophy" live on air? --Evilkolbot 11:18, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
          • Jesus. You downloaded the image and then checked your local copy, which meant that the file creation date was whenever you downloaded it. Checking the image headers from images.kingdomofloathing.com, well, I think "Last-Modified: Mon, 25 Jun 2007 02:12:13 GMT" says it all.--Toffile 13:22, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
            • oh, all right, you got me. ;) --Evilkolbot 19:21, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

No special numbers my ass... Laparapa 20:04, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

And how the hell do I get this on the fist day of a Bad Moon run? --raorn 23:41, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

You can't. You can get it with a new account on day one, or you can get it in bad moon. Those were two separate hints/answers: they never said that it's possible on day one in bad moon. --Fig bucket 00:06, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
You can't. Jick never said you could. He said you could get it on the first day of a new character. If someone gives you the palms that's true. He also said that you could get it in Bad Moon. But he never said that you could get it on the first day of a Bad Moon run. Those two clues were never intended to be used together. --Bale 04:16, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Reference?

The song seems a lot less obscure than the city 29 Palms, which presumably the song was named after. (The trophy name might come from the song, or an obscure train, or whatever, but you don't need to know the trophy name to perform the action.) OTOH Maybe the name seems more familiar to me than it would to an average person because I was in the Marines.Stannius 04:54, 11 September 2009 (UTC)stannius
