Daily Limit

I have the impression there's a max. number of drops of this item each day and/or a decreasing drop rate. Can anyone confirm this - or share my impression? :-) --Louis of Apshai (talk) 22:31, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

  • Maybe it's just some kind of optical illusion? I'm getting more Crimbonium through the oil than molds from the elves... Maybe the Crimbonium will be used for other things than fuel rods. Or maybe they want to make sure that even those players who don't like mining can get enough ore/rods with just freeing elves, because the raw Crimbonium stays cheap. --Yatsufusa (talk) 22:40, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
    • Hm, don't know, but for many adventures now (between 60 and 100 I guess) I do not get any molds anymore, just the flasks. I've received 116 molds in total in two complete days. Or maybe the molds stop dropping for the rest of the day if a Crimbot schematic has been found? Though I guess a decreasing drop rate as a soft limit is more likely. --Louis of Apshai (talk) 22:49, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
      • That sounds overly complicated for such a basic item. One of the KoLMafia guys took an educated guess and said the drop chance might be around 5%. I feel like it's a little bit higher, but I think 5-7% or so are pretty realistic. 60 to 100 adventures in a row without a drop sounds improbable, but on the other hand, it's not impossible. Maybe it's just personal misfortune. A clannie got two or three schematics on the first day and I only got one. That doesn't mean that something's broken, it just means he's lucky. --Yatsufusa (talk) 23:27, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
        • Odds of missing a 5% drop 100 times in a row with +0% items: 0.59%. With +100% items: 0.0026%. With +200% items or more: pretty much 0. Odds Jick put a daily limit in place to discourage people from farming forever as he's done in several other places: yes. --Johnny Treehugger (talk) 23:51, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
          • Several other places? That's news to me. Is my memory that bad or was it improperly documented in the wiki? Could you maybe please list a few examples? --Yatsufusa (talk) 00:21, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
            • If I had to put money on this (I'm also seeing the drops fall off considerably as time goes on each day) I would bet it is like the Coin drops from the Mercenary of Fortune, each time one drops the rate is lowered. Could also be like beer lenses as a hard limit, but different people seem to cap out differently, I'm stuck at 92 for today--Coderanger (talk) 00:26, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
            • Coinspiracy and beer lens were what I was thinking of, so maybe that doesn't count as several, but there's precedent, and enough anecdotal evidence that it seems to me to be the most likely explanation. --Johnny Treehugger (talk) 02:02, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
            • Add returned Thinknerd packages to the list of limited drops a day. --Louis of Apshai (talk) 02:10, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
              • Thank you. The beer lenses (and steam cards) I should have remembered, but the others went straight past me when they were introduced, mainly because I didn't do much in those zones. As today is a fresh day, I'll raise some data myself. If there is some kind of limit, it should be quite noticeable. --Yatsufusa (talk) 11:49, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
                • Today I got cylindrical mold drops on Adventures
                  3, 4, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18,
                  20, 23, (missing one somewhere here), 27, 28, 29, 30, 33, 34, 35,
                  38, 42, 43, 50, 52, 53, 54, 55, 58, 60,
                  64, 67, 68, 71, 74, 75, 77, 80, 82, 83,
                  84, 87, 88, 89, 90, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97,
                  100, 102, 109, 112, 118, 124, 125, 132, 134, 143,
                  147, 151, 152, 153, 155, 156, 162, then nothing for the next 100 Adventures spend in the camp.
67 cylindrical molds over the course of 162 Adventures. So there really seems to be a hard cap of sorts. It would be interesting to see if it's the same cap for all players and on all days. It is possible that I missed a drop and I don't know if and how many molds I might have bought from the mall during the last days, but about 60 seems to be pretty close. --Yatsufusa (talk) 18:22, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
                  • I just got started in this years crimbo and I wasn't using +items for a while. Once after~200 adv I only got 33 to drop and then i couldn't get anymore. This makes me think that there is a turn limit to farming these not a drop limit.--FriedPenguin (talk) 03:08, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
                    • I just had a mold inexplicably drop on maybe my 400th adventure in the camp. Also, while the cap on my main seems to be around 70, my very-low-skill multi gets maybe 20. So yes, it's more likely a turn-based cap than a drop-based cap.--Hugbert (talk) 07:50, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
                • Today I increased my +item drops from 400%-ish to 450%-ish. Got 73 mold drops. The last few where at Adventures 131, 141, 143, 145, 151, 164 and 170. (With Adventure 180 I stopped farming the Mining Camp for today.) --Yatsufusa (talk) 21:01, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
                • Got 85 mold drops in 156 Adventures today. +450%-ish item drops. Tried until Adventure 176. --Yatsufusa (talk) 21:20, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
                • Got 85 mold drops in 169 Adventures today, second to last on Adventure 156. Had between +460%-ish and 490%-ish item drops most of the time. Tried until Adventure 170. I increased +item drops more and more towards the end of the 170 Adventures up to 523%. --Yatsufusa (talk) 22:57, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
                • Got 90 mold drops in 150 Adventures today 93 total over 200 adventures, which is 20+ more then I usually get per day using the same basic buff setup (using 1 frost flower per day, using two bottle of bubbles, pool table item buff, and 1 potion of litterboz a day on top of a base 450 item drop) . I think it had to do with the fact that today I front-loaded my item buff skills to the point that I didn't miss 1 mold drop for the first 23 adventures and got 47 molds to drop in first 50 adventures. Complete guessing here, but noticing a trend, I'm proposing that the drop rate doesn't care about how many molds you have currently gotten that day, but rather how many turns you have spent in the zone that day. Most likely a decaying drop rate that goes to 0 once you have spent 200 turns in the zone. This would account for all the reports we are seeing of people getting a ton for the first bunch of turns, and then slowly tapering off with the occasional drop post 170 when you get really lucky when there is an absurdly low drop rate.--Bombar (talk) 17:08, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
                  • From a developer's point of view, adventures spend in a zone this day are relatively easy to manage and don't leave behind any garbage in the code, once the event zone gets removed. I think it sounds plausible. Also, I recommend Knob Goblin eyedrops and Knob Goblin pet-buffing spray either as an addition or as alternative for the less wealthy part of our players. --Yatsufusa (talk) 17:24, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
                • I've adventured 170 turns in the camp today. Thanks to my ittah bittah hookah I've received a bonus between 5% and 30% to my +item from time to time, but in general I had:
                  • 90 turns with 450%: 59 molds
                  • 10 turns with 460%: 6 molds
                  • 10 turns with 510%: 4 molds
                  • 10 turns with 520%: 5 molds (many effects wore off after 120 turns)
                  • 50 turns with 300%: 5 molds and no more drops after about 153 turns in total --Louis of Apshai (talk) 22:24, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
