The rocky island shudders beneath your feet as a tremendous rumbling shakes the cavern. An explosion of lava bursts from the fiery lake, and you cover your face to protect yourself from flying droplets of red-hot magma. Dramatic organ music fills the air as you slowly lower your hands to witness a monstrosity rise from the molten rock. Wreathed in flames, Stella -- what once was Stella -- levitates into the air, her skin fiery red, with huge black leathery wings sprouting from her spine. Gleaming steel sickles and forks swarm around her like angry bees as she licks her lips with a long forked tongue and cackles in insane glee.

Screeching wordlessly in triumph, she swoops down at you, knocking you backwards. You hit the stone altar heavily and sit, dazed, as the demonic harridan prepares to charge you again.

There is a blinding flash of light, and a chorus of heavenly voices rises in counterpoint to the ominous organ music. You watch, mystified, as your Chelonian Morningstar transforms before your eyes, becoming an ancient seven-headed flail, each chain terminated with an iron tortoise. As the light fades, the flail rises into the air, pulling you to your feet.

Stella cackles again, and hisses "You think that little toy is going to stop me? You are finished, do-gooder!"

After Combat

"Impossible!" Stella shrieks furiously. "I won't lose like this! Never!" With one final, desperate leap, she throws herself at the stone altar. The ancient glyphs flare with a dazzling white light, and the ancient shrine explodes.

You are thrown head over heels, and land on your back on one of the floating stepping-stones. Momentarily stunned, you can only watch as the entire mountain begins to shake. Huge boulders fall from the ceiling, sending gouts of lava spraying out of the lake. You recover your wits just enough to get to your feet and scramble for the tunnel entrance. You risk a quick look backwards -- the central island has collapsed into the magma, and Stella is nowhere to be seen.

You make your way through the cavern tunnels as quickly as you can, with the ground shaking under your feet and a wave of molten rock hot on your heels (literally). The upper warehouse complex is full of workmen too busy running around in a panic to take notice of you, and you race out of the building just ahead of the rockslide that buries the entire structure forever. Looking up, you see smoke pouring out of the top of the volcano, but it and the earthquake soon subside -- looks like there's not going to be a full-scale eruption, luckily. Fleeing the underground tunnels was one thing, but you wouldn't have bet much on your chances of getting off this island alive if the entire thing had exploded.

Bruised and battered, you make your way out of the compound, where the guard turtles are standing around looking confused -- the ones that haven't withdrawn into their shells, anyway. They too largely ignore you, and you collapse on the beach near your rowboat, panting for breath.

Notes

  • In the beginning of the battle, your Legendary Weapon transforms into the Flail of the Seven Aspects. If you lose, it will transform back:
    You lose. As you slink away, dejected and defeated, your Epic Weapon reverts to its original form in a puff of failure.
  • This monster can be fought with no adventures remaining.
  • As a boss fight, this combat features several unique complications:
    • Every round, Stella uses a special combo attack consisting of eight separate hits, which will always connect, regardless of moxie.
      • A turtle familiar (namely, a Grinning Turtle, Syncopated Turtle, Wereturtle, or Untamed Turtle) will block one of these hits every round, so that the player is only hit seven times. This does not interfere with the familiar's normal behavior (i.e., an Untamed Turtle may still prevent all of Stella's attacks in a given round if its regular blocking behavior triggers). The blocked hit will be indicated by one of several messages:
        • <Name> does a little turtle dance, distracting Stella for a moment.
        • Stella lashes out, but <name> dives in the way, taking the brunt of the blow.
        • <Name> dives in front of Stella's next attack, saving you from some harm.
        • <Name> slowly moves in front of Stella, and the sickle bounces off their hard shell.
    • Stella is immune to multi-round stun effects such as those from finger cuffs. (If one of these effects is used on her, she simply breaks free in the same round the effect is given and attacks with her usual eight hits, as if nothing had happened.) Shell Up doesn't even block an attack.
    • However, she is affected normally by single-round stun effects, such as those from Shieldbutt, Potato-type familiars, Entangling Noodles, and various combat items.
  • Damage Reduction acts like so:
    • First, all attacks do 60% of their normal damage, rounded up
    • Afterwards, if the damage dealt from a single source would otherwise be over 50, then a soft damage cap kicks in. The resultant damage is 50 + (X-50)0.65, rounded down, where X > 50 is the damage before the soft cap.
  • The heart of the volcano and Instant Karma only drop if you have completed the Volcano Maze puzzle.
  • This monster cannot be copied.
