snapdragon You're fighting a snapdragon

This isn't a flower that kind of looks like a dragon; it's a dragon that looks like a flower. Snapdragons evolved after the proliferation of knights made kidnapping maidens a dicey proposition. Dragons that were able to sneak into the bouquets of flowers the knights sent their maidens were able to live longer and procreate more, and over time the best hiding traits were selected, so now we have this dragon that's nigh-indistinguishable from a flower, until it breathes fire.

This is all completely insane, but -- y'know, that's science for you.

Hit Message(s):

Aw, snap! He snaps at you, pinching the delicate flesh of your <face>. Ugh! Ooh! Eek! Argh!

He chargrills your <lower back> with a well-placed gout of flame. You'd rather have a flaming case of gout, to be honest. Ow! Ouch! (hot damage)

He invites you closer to smell his petals, then snaps your <shoulder>. Aw, man, you fell for it again! Argh! Argh!

He tells you to look to the stars, then stomps on your foot while you're distracted. Oof! Ow! Ooh!

Critical Hit Message:

The dragon manages to breathe fire on you, rake you with his claws, and snap your <lower back> before you can react. Man, if you were a dragon, your name would be "Mayas B. Dragon." Ouch! Argh! Ooh!

Miss Message(s):

Aw, snap! He tried to snap at you, but you blocked with a set of snap pans.

He blows fire at you, but you blow it right back.

He invites you to smell his petals, but you have the scents to avoid doing that.

He shouts, "I AM the lasht!"

Fumble Message:

You engage him in a spirited debate on whether virgins taste better than those who are not: whether they're salty, or sweet, or more juicy, or what. You don't get a clear answer, but it was an interesting discussion. (FUMBLE!)

References

  • The message about virgins tasting better than those who are not is a reference to the song "Do Virgins Taste Better" by the group "Brobdingnagian Bards".
  • One of the monster's Miss messages, including the phonetic spelling of "lasht," bares a striking resemblence to a similar line spoken by Sean Connery in Dragonheart.
  • The appearance of the snapdragon shares some similarities with another well-known dragon.
