Combat Messages
- Regular message:
- <name> unreels a needle-tipped tube from its mouth, and another from its -- er, the opposite of its mouth. It sticks one end into you, the other end into it, and pumps life out of it and into you. Happy Crimbo!
- After combat:
- <name> chimes and says, "protocol download complete." A big black disk slides out of his front loading slot.

- B.L.I.T.Z.E.N. Protocol
- A Jacob's Ladder of electricity arcs between <name>'s antlers. The hairs on your neck stand up.
- C.O.M.E.T. Protocol
- <name> swoops high into the sky, then dive-bombs him like a comet. Since comets are mostly made of ice (the more you know!), he takes a chilly X damage.
- C.U.P.I.D. Protocol
- <name> strings a bowstring between his antlers, and uses it (along with a few servo arms) to fire a poison-tipped arrow at them. They look weaker.

 | Monster defense reduced by Y |
- D.A.N.C.E.R. Protocol
- <name> does a soft-shoe routine. Soft-hoof? Or is that a disease? Anyway, the robot reindeer was dancing, is the point.
- D.A.S.H.E.R. Protocol
- <name> dashes him against the rocks (you know, those rocks over there) for ?? damage.
- D.O.N.N.E.R. Protocol
- <name> left eye quickly irises in and out, then shoots a red laser beam to some meat you had overlooked.
- P.R.A.N.C.E.R. Protocol
- <name> prances across the heads (or whatever passes for same in this instance) of your opponents, dazing them with a panoply of hoofbeats.

- R.U.D.O.L.P.H. Protocol
- <name> holds out an old-fashioned monochrome CRT monitor with :-D displayed on it, then rotates it 90 degrees clockwise.
- V.I.X.E.N. Protocol
- <name> seductively pushes you to the ground, then flips you over and walks back and forth across your spine a few times. You feel relaxed and refreshed.
- Enthroned in the Crown of Thrones:
- <name> says, "backup data dump complete," and ejects something out of its front loading slot into your hand.

- Bjornified in the Buddy Bjorn:
- <name> bleeps, "Extraneous matter discovered. Recompiling." and something pops out of the Buddy Bjorn. Wait... what 'extraneous matter', exactly?

- With lucky Tam O'Shanter equipped:
- <name> irises one ocular camera in and out beneath the Tam O'Shanter.
- With miniature gravy-covered maypole equipped:
- <name> loads up a Broadway hoofer routine and executes it beneath the Maypole.
- With wax lips equipped:
- <name> says, "semi-colon hyphen capital d" beneath the Wax Lips.
Notes
- With no protocol disks used, the familiar simply acts like a Mosquito. Disks are randomly dropped by the familiar after combats, and when used, they give the familiar that power for 10 combats. Disks can be combined to get the powers from multiple disks at once. The powers given are:
- The name of the protocol your reindeer is using will consist of either the first half or last half of all active protocols in the same order as the song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph).
- If all of the protocols are used, the reindeer will operate under the O.L.I.V.E. Protocol, a reference to how "all of (olive) the other reindeer used to laugh and call him (rudolph) names"
- If one protocol is used, and another is used before the first expires, when the first protocol expires, the expiration message will include the combined protocol name. The second protocol will still be active.
References
- For our younger readers, the image for the protocols is of a 5.25-inch floppy disk.
