You plop down between the eyestalks and ready your weapon. When the giant mouth emerges beneath you, you rethink your choice of position and move somewhere off to the side.
When the mouth lunges at you, slavering and snarling, you decide it's time to stop thinking about where you should stand, and to start thinking about how you're going to manage to defeat this monstrosity.
Hit Message(s):
Mother Slime smacks you in the <leg> with one of her eyestalks. You'd think that'd hurt her as much as it hurt you, but you'd be wrong. Oof! Ugh! Ooh! Oof! Eek! Ow! (slime damage)
Mother Slime sings you a horrifying, gurgling lullaby. Ooh! Oof! Argh! Eek! Ouch! Ow! (spooky damage)
Mother Slime extends a slimy pseudopod, licks it with a slimy tongue, and rubs your <throat>. It burns! It burns! Ouch! Oof! Ugh! Ooh! Ouch! Argh! (slime damage)
Mother Slime attempts to rock you to sleep by beating you against the sides of the tube. Argh! Eek! Ooh! Eek! Eek! Ouch! (slime damage)
Apparently you've got a face only a mother can gnaw off, because that's what she does. Ow! Ugh! Eek! Ouch! Eek! Ouch! (slime damage)
Like your own mother, Mother Slime takes you in her slimy arms and embraces you. Unlike your own mother, Mother Slime then gnaws your <ankle> off with her powerful and disgusting jaws. Argh! Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Ow! Ugh! (slime damage)
She wraps one slimy tentacle around your <ear>, another around your <head>, and then gnaws a massive hole in your <thigh>. That's not motherly at all! Oof! Oof! Ouch! Argh! Argh! Ugh!
She tries to bite you, but you say "Mother, may I dodge?" and since she doesn't say no, you do.
She tries to give you a big hug, but you're no Mama's Adventurer
She starts to attack you, but then notices that your nose is running and has to dig around in her massive purse for a while, looking for a tissue.
She lunges at you, but you run back up the tube and step on a crack, breaking her back before she can connect.
You quickly rush between her eyestalks. She gets confused trying to follow you, and has to spend a minute untwisting her eyes. (FUMBLE!)

Notes
Drop Mechanics
- Only one of the slime-soaked brain, slime-soaked hypophysis and the slime-soaked sweat gland will drop at a time.
- If you complete the dungeon faster than 370 turns, you will get a second caustic slime nodule.
- If you are eligible to receive the slimy alveolus drop, then you receive one of them for every +50% item drop bonus you have. If you have less than +50% items, you will not receive any alveoli.
- The slimy alveolus and caustic slime nodules will drop on all faster speed runs. For example, a run completed in 230 turns will cause both slimy alveoli and 2 caustic slime nodules to drop, in addition to the squirming Slime larva.
- Runs do not have to be completed in one day to receive speed rewards. Any run that is within the indicated turn count will receive the relevant rewards. Only runs that are completed in one day can appear on the leaderboards, however.
- Furthermore, eligibility for speed drops is checked before the combat with Mother Slime is tallied. This means that if you are at Mother Slime after 230 turns, and kill her in the next turn (231), you will get the squirming Slime larva to drop. However, if you die to Mother Slime on turn 231 and then kill her on turn 232, you will not get the larva.
- The Slimy Eyeball trophy will drop if you kill the Mother Slime without triggering any of her immunities. This can be done by doing nearly 500 points damage (but not more) of every type (physical, Cold, Hot, Spooky, Stench, Sleaze). Be aware that +ML will increase her HP above 3000, forcing you to activate at least one of her immunities. Gear that reduces ML is particularly helpful for this as it will reduce the initial HP without changing the immunity threshold. However it seems possible to reduce her ML so much that you can correctly kill her without getting the trophy.
Combat Mechanics
- Combat items cannot be used. Trying to use an item produces a message:
- She ignores Entangling Noodles and, presumably, other multi-round stuns. However, she is affected by one-round stuns, like those from a Levitating Potato or a navel ring of navel gazing.
- Mother Slime has a soft damage cap, after which a special damage reduction is applied. If an attack would do no more than 200 damage, then no damage reduction is applied. Otherwise, if x is the base damage done, then the actual damage Mother Slime takes is 200+floor((x-200)0.7). This formula is applied to any type of damage and to any source of damage.
x | actual damage |
---|---|
200 | 200 |
500 | 254 |
1000 | 307 |
1500 | 351 |
2000 | 389 |
3000 | 458 |
3657 | 499 |
3658 | 500 |
4000 | 520 |
5000 | 577 |
10000 | 822 |
20000 | 1217 |
50000 | 2141 |
84245 | 3000 |
100000 | 3557 |
- During the fight, she adapts (becomes resistant) to each method of attack, so using different physical and elemental sources of damage is required to defeat her.
- Adapting occurs after 501 or more points of damage of a particular type has been done to her. The adapting occurs after all damage from that round has been done (meaning you can do more than 500 damage of a single type in a round)
- Adapting to physical:
- The ground trembles as Mother Slime shudders. Her skin seems to harden...
- Adapting to sleaze:
- Veins of purple shoot through Mother Slime just beneath the surface.
- Adapting to cold:
- Mother Slime's skin takes on a bluish tinge.
- Adapting to spooky:
- Mother Slime's skin becomes ashy and gray.
- Adapting to hot:
- The outer layer of Mother Slime becomes decidedly more reddish.
- Adapting to stench:
- Mother Slime looks greener than she did a minute ago.
- If using an attack that deals damage of more than one element, only the last one is checked to see if it reached the cap of 500. This means that using Weapon of the Pastalord will never trigger Mother Slime's physical immunity (except if you land on 100% physical).
- The faster the run, the higher Mother Slime's attack power and the higher the stat gains. Normally she has the attack and stat gains of a level 3000 monster. On a run that qualifies for the first nodule, her attack will be around 6000 and the substat gains will be around 1500. On a run that qualifies for the larva, her attack is around 8700 with substat gains of 2175.
- The speed of the run does not affect Mother Slime's HP, which is always ~2950. However, effects that change monster level will have the usual effect on her HP.
- Per a post from Jick in the forums, beginning on November 9, 2009, a character must be Level 13 or higher to initiate the fight with the Mother Slime. This eliminates the loophole demonstrated by DarthDud that allowed a softcore speedrunner to powerlevel excessively by killing a series of prepared Slime Mothers in friendly, whitelisted clans using some cleverness with a leveled-up Levitating Potato and a Navel ring of navel gazing.
