Knife in the Dark

Type: Combat
MP Cost: 10
usable once per fight

The two greatest fears man faces are fear of the dark and fear of sharp things. This is a move that combines both of these fears.

Uses best available knife to damage opponent

Source: Guild Trainer
Price: 4,000 Meat
Class: Disco Bandit
Level: 9
Effect: Deals X physical damage and Y Spooky Damage, based on your current level of Disco Momentum and the damage range of your best available knife.

The formulas for X and Y are currently unknown.

When Used:
With no knife and any level of Disco Momentum:

Since you don't have a knife, this is more like a shot in the dark, which deals X damage. You should really get a knife, though. A knife in the dark would be way better.
or
You lurk in the shadows, realize you don't have a knife, and settle for a punch from the shadows, which deals X damage. You could use a knife.
or
You vanish into the shadows, a terrifying assassin--then realize you don't have a knife for the stabbing. You punch him for X damage instead, and ponder where you could get yourself a knife.
or
You duck into the shadows for a stab in the dark, then realize you don't have anything with which to stab. You settle for a shin-kick, which does X damage. You should get a knife. And a life.

With no Disco Momentum:
Half of your ass disappears into the shadows, and you slash half-assedly with your <knife> for X (+Y) damage.
or
Your <knife> holding hand disappears into the shadows, then unenthusiastically slashes it with your <knife>. It does X (+Y) damage, but you should try harder.
or
You sort of disappear into the shadows, and kinda half-assedly slash at him with your <knife>. It deals X (+Y) damage, but you can't help but feel like you could've slashed <it> more enthusiastically than that.
or
Parts of you disappear into the shadows, and one of those parts stabs your opponent with your <knife>. You hit for X (+Y) damage, but you can do better.

With 1 point of Disco Momentum:
You slip into the shadows, almost slip and fall down, and flail wildly with your <knife> for X (+Y) damage.
or
You slide into the shadows, and sort of slide back out before he sees you, slashing with your <knife> for X (+Y) damage.
or
You shuffle into the shadows, and shuffle back out behind him, cutting <it> with your <knife> for X (+Y) damage.

With 2 points of Disco Momentum:
You vanish into some convenient nearby darkness, emerging only to deliver a vicious and unexpected and terrifying slash to your foe, dealing a vicious and unexpected and terrifying X (+Y) damage.
or
You fade into the shadows, silent as the downbeat before a disco tune, and slash violently with your <knife> for X (+Y) damage.
or
You duck into the shadows, silent as a disco ball but far better concealed, and slash viciously with your <knife> for X (+Y) damage.
or
You slip into a nearby shadow, emerging without a sound to deliver a vicious slash with your <knife> for X (+Y) damage.

With 3 points of Disco Momentum:
You become one with the darkness, and your <knife> becomes one with your opponent's sensitive underbelly, dealing X (+Y) damage.
or
You jive into the shadows, not even humming the Mission Impossible theme under your breath. Then you slash with your <knife> for a whopping X (+Y) damage.
or

You create your own shadows and vanish into them, your <knife> not even gleaming as it cuts your opponent for X (+Y) damage. Man, you're getting good at this.

Notes

  • This skill will attempt to use the most powerful equippable knife in your inventory, regardless of whether you are currently wielding it. Any stats requirements apply.
  • The physical damage appears to be partially based on the knife's power. The spooky damage scales significantly with both the knife's power and your Disco Momentum level.
