Kingdom of Exploathing
From TheKolWiki
Kingdom of Exploathing is the Fall 2019 special challenge path, introduced on August 15, 2019. This path adds variant rules and restrictions to an ascension run. Its description in The Bureau of Reincarnation reads "The Kingdom has been blown to bits!"
Divergences
- The main map is replaced with a selection of floating locations.
Quest Progression
- All Council quests are immediately available at the start of the run.
- Locations which are required to start each quest are unlocked at the start of the run, and some early quest stages are truncated. Later quest locations will generally unlock through normal quest progression. For example, The Black Market will appear on the main map after fully exploring The Black Forest. Somehow.
- The inside of Cobb's Knob begins unlocked. You do not need to decipher the map.
- The strange leaflet is not available.
- The Castle in the Clouds in the Sky begins unlocked, skipping the beanstalk and The Penultimate Fantasy Airship (which is not available at all).
- In the Quest for the Holy MacGuffin, the Forged identification documents are turned in to the Council to get Your father's MacGuffin diary, because The Shore is not available.
- The Hidden Temple is unlocked from the start.
- Shen Copperhead will always ask for The Snake With Like Ten Heads, The Frattlesnake, Frozen Solid Snake.
- The Mysterious Island Quest is different: no sidequest zones are available, and the war is already started, requiring you to eliminate 333 soldiers on either side before fighting the boss.
- While wearing a war uniform, adventures at The Exploaded Battlefield alternate between 6 combats and Rationing out Destruction, where you can throw various food (against the Hippies) or booze (against the Frats) items to eliminate opponents based on items thrown.
- Defeating an enemy soldier while wielding either a haunted paddle-ball or a Jacob's rung will eliminate an extra enemy soldier.
- The Hole in the Sky is unlocked from the start.
- The Naughty Sorceress' Tower is unlocked upon completing all of the other Council quests as usual. Interestingly, being level 13 is not a prerequisite for this.
- The invader must be defeated before freeing the king:
- "Your sense of justice prevents you from freeing the King without dealing with the Invader that destroyed his Kingdom."
Path-Specific Store
- The path-specific store Cosmic Ray's Bazaar sells consumables, path-specific items, and quest-essential items.
- Some items in the bazaar can be bought by using rare Meat isotopes, which can be obtained for 1000 Meat at the Bazaar (or less, with Five Finger Discount or sleaze jelly).
- The Council awards 10 rare Meat isotopes for each "chore" (quest) finished, for a total of +110.
- Players gain bonus isotopes at the start of their run for their previous Kingdom of Exploathing ascensions, +10 for each Normal run, +20 for each Hardcore run. Start-of-run bonus is capped at +100.
- This store sells Daily Dungeon keys for fat loot tokens and the digital key which costs 30 white pixels.
- Some items in the bazaar can be bought by using rare Meat isotopes, which can be obtained for 1000 Meat at the Bazaar (or less, with Five Finger Discount or sleaze jelly).
Combat
- At the end of every combat, you will receive passive damage due to oxygen deprivation. This can be prevented by equipping a low-pressure oxygen tank from Cosmic Ray's Bazaar.
![]() | You lose ~20% of current max HP, rounded up hit points. |
- You will encounter wandering skeleton astronauts or invader bullets in any zone, seemingly at 5% chance on any regular turn(???). These wandering monsters can be avoided by equipping a signal jammer or space shield respectively from Cosmic Ray's Bazaar.
- Invader bullets will not attack you for the first 2 rounds, but will instantly kill you on the third round. It can be slowed down by Disco Momentum by using Flashy Dancer, however.
- Killing invader bullets is the normal way to get enough white pixels in-run for the purchase of the digital key. The invader also drops 10 white pixels.
- Skeleton astronauts deal 10% of your max HP every turn and drop evil eyes along with loose teeth and skeleton bones for ease of making Skeleton keys.
Aftercore
- The Council will give you a strange leaflet.
- Any attempt to return to the Exploathing Main Map gives: "The whole world has not exploded yet."
Restrictions
- Most locations which are not required to finish the path are inaccessible until you finish the path.
- The Hermitage and Market Square (including Doc Galaktik's Medicine Show) are inaccessible, removing easy sources of clovers, healing items, and MP restorers.
- The lack of anti-anti-antidotes can make poison a possible issue, especially mid-combat. Disco Nap + Adventurer of Leisure can remove poisons outside of combat.
- Moon Sign zones, such as Little Canadia, friendly Degrassi Knoll, and The Gnomish Gnomad Camp are not accessible.
- This also means no access to any Monster Aggravation Devices, so boss rewards cannot be changed.
- Degrassi Knoll's unavailability removes a source of springs for Meat maids or chefs-in-the-box, as well as free pasting or basic smithing.
- The Hippy Store is unavailable, removing a source of easy foods.
- The Unquiet Garves and The "Fun" House are unavailable, making the Nemesis quest impossible (and removing a source of boxen).
- The Penultimate Fantasy Airship is unavailable, removing the source of soft green echo eyedrop antidotes, Mohawk wigs, titanium assault umbrellas, amulets of extreme plot significance, and metallic As.
- The Valley of Rof L'm Fao is unavailable, removing the only source of lowercase Ns (without using a Lucky Adventure).
- Both of these Wand of Nagamar components can be ignored, because Cosmic Ray sells a wand for 30 Rare Meat Isotopes.
- The Shore, Inc. and its gift shop are not available to purchase the UV-resistant compass.
- Whitey's Grove is unavailable, which means you have to get the bird rib and the lion oil the long way through the Palindrome or wish for them.
- The Hermitage and Market Square (including Doc Galaktik's Medicine Show) are inaccessible, removing easy sources of clovers, healing items, and MP restorers.
- The Clan Hall was initially inaccessible, but was added to the fragment of Desert Beach shortly after the path launched.
- Huggler Memorial Colosseum, the Mall, and Mr. Store can be reached via the "Other stuff" link at the top right of the main map.
- The Museum can be accessed through /go museum, or through a configured top menu link.
- The Raffle House can be accessed through /go raffle, or through a configured top menu link.
- Reminders and holiday announcements will not appear due to the non-standard main map.
- Any IOTM locations not in Campground, Right Side of the Tracks and Wrong Side of the Tracks cannot be accessed.
- The Getaway Campsite is accessible, just floating in space, no longer part of the The Distant Woods.
- Even though the Elemental International Airport is accessible from Right Side of the Tracks, the planes and the shop don't work.
- Oliver's Place doesn't work either, although the button is there.
