Hostile Work Environment
You encounter a shop, but ever since you attacked that first shopkeeper, these guys don't really seem interested in selling you anything anymore.
This one, for instance, is pacing back and forth wielding a shotgun. Maybe you shouldn't go in there...

You turn to leave, but accidentally kick a rock, which draws the shopkeeper's attention. He goes crazy, leaping around and randomly firing his shotgun. A few pellets hit you in the back!

After a few seconds, the shopkeeper's random leaping sends him hurtling into the blackness of a bottomless pit, where he is presumably no longer a threat to you.
Occurs in The Mines, The Jungle, and The Ice Caves after attacking a shopkeeper.
