This is... well... it's a handful of sand. There's not much you can say about sand, really. It's like dirt, only more granular. Spanish for sand is arena. If you had an hourglass to watch the sand fall through, that'd be a poignant (if melodramatic) metaphor, but you don't have an hourglass. So yeah. Sand. Go ahead and count the grains if you want; seriously, go crazy. We won't make you count three million, though -- that would just be rude.

  • Bloodsport is a 1988 martial arts film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
  • The mention of the hourglass has to do with the tagline for Days of our Lives, a soap opera that has been on air since 1965.
  • It could also be a reference to Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. In the movie, Socrates relates the "poignant (if melodramatic) metaphor" without use of an hourglass.
  • The plural of this item is a Spoonerism.
