fan dancer You're fighting a fan dancer

This is one of the performers at the Copperhead Club. She wears very little, and dances with two very big fans, so that the fans can always cover up the parts of her that the customers are most interested in seeing.

I'll have you know that fan dancing is an art, and that she studied for years to perfect her technique. Also, she has an IQ of 180 and builds working Stirling engines in her spare time. So spare me the outrage, please.

Hit Message(s):

She boxes you with her fans, feinting, dodging, and punching. Ugh! Ooh!

She does a little fandango, and ends by folding up a fan and smacking you with it. Argh! Ooh!

He[sic]? hits you with a fan. You aren't a fan of the hit. Oof! Argh!

She oscillates over to you and slices you with the edge of her fan. Argh! Ow!

She smacks two fans together on each side of your face, boggling you a bit. Ooh! Oof!

She waves a fan in front of your eyes to distract you while she sweeps your legs with her foot. Oof! Argh!

Critical Hit Message:

She calls the other fan dancers in to pummel you senseless. The breeze from all those fans is pleasant, but the papercuts and contusions when they hit you are less so. Oof! Oof!

Miss Message(s):

She tries to box you with her fans, but you're not a fan-boxing fan.

She tries to do a grim fandango, but gets one of her fans stuck closed and can't open it.

She tries to hit you with a fan, but you're not a fan of such hits.

She tries to slice you with her fan, but you oscillate away.

She tries to smack her fans together on you, but you duck.

She waves a fan at you, providing a cooling breeze. Ahhh.

Fumble Message:

You ask, "hey, aren't you a little old to be a fan dancer? You've gotta be pushing 50, right?" She seems offended, but at least you didn't ask her what God would want with a starship. (FUMBLE!)

  • The fumble message refers to Star Trek 5. Both the climax, with the infamous question "What does God need with a starship," and the equally infamous Uhura Fan Dance scene. Nichelle Nichols was indeed in her 50s when she did that scene.
  • The miss message about a "Grim Fandango" may be a reference to the LucasArts game of the same name.
  • The hit and miss messages about oscillating refer to electric fans, some of which can be set to rotate back and forth (called oscillation).
