Dreadsylvanian Village Square
Dreadsylvanian Village Square

You're in the deserted square pavillion in the center of the Village. You hear a periodic slamming noise as the shutters of the nearby one-room schoolhouse swing back and forth in the wind. You hear a creaking as a noose pendulums ominously on the gallows in the center of the square. Finally, you hear a voice in your head that says "That's a blacksmith's shop!" when you see a blacksmith's shop.

The schoolhouse

With Dreadsylvanian skeleton key:

You try the door of the schoolhouse, but it's locked. You try your skeleton key in the lock, but it works. I mean and it works. But it breaks. That was the but.

If the schoolhouse has not been unlocked yet, and you have no key:

You try the door of the schoolhouse, but it's locked. Looks like you're gonna need one of those skeleton keys from the Terrified Eagle if you want to go in there.

If the schoolhouse is unlocked already:

You open the already-unlocked door to the schoolhouse and step inside.

If you've already visited any location in the Village Square in this instance:

The shutters on the schoolhouse windows slam shut as you approach, and the door won't budge. Looks like school's out... forever.

The blacksmith's shop
In the heat of the moment, you step into the heat of the blacksmith's shop.

If you've already visited any location in the Village Square in this instance:

As you approach the blacksmith's shop, a nearby pile of chain springs into life and creates an impenetrable webbing in the doorway. Looks like this chain's got your number.

The gallows
You mount the steps to the top of the gallows, and not for the last time, the narrator ominously foreshadowed.

If you've already visited any location in the Village Square in this instance:

You find yourself unable to approach the gallows. It's as though it's surrounded by an invisible crowd of morbid onlookers.

Use a ghost pencil

(This option only appears with a ghost pencil in inventory)

You stick the ghost pencil into your head and annotate your mental map of the area. You'll be able to find your way back here really easily now.

Leave
This town square is boring. You head somewhere hipper.

Occurs at Dreadsylvanian Village.

Notes

  • If the door to the schoolhouse is locked, the adventure does not end.
  • Using a ghost pencil adds a link to this non-combat onto your Dreadsylvania main map. This persists between dungeon instances.
  • One can wait in the village non-combat while someone else unlocks the schoolhouse, then choose that option to pass through the now-unlocked door.
