Combat Messages

Before Combat:
<name> bites it and there's a flash as its appearance changes dramatically. That can't be a good sign.
During Combat:
<name> blinks out of existence for a moment. Your opponent winces, suffering X damage from some strange, unseen wound. <name> reappears at your side, crackling with energy.

You gain X Mana Points.

Enthroned in the Crown of Thrones:
<name> emits a shower of sparks. Some of them go up your nose.
You gain 3-5 Mana Points.
Bjornified in the Buddy Bjorn:
<name> scuttles out of the Buddy Bjorn, goes in your ear, and adjusts something.
You gain 3-5 Mana Points.
With lucky Tam O'Shanter equipped:
Your Tam O'Shanter flickers in and out of existence worryingly for a minute.
With miniature gravy-covered maypole equipped:
<name> dances from one side of the maypole to the other without occupying any of the space in between.
With wax lips equipped:
The wax lips <name> is wearing turn into a box of fireworks for a moment, then back into a pair of lips. Huh.

Notes

The MP gain will be equal to the damage done.
The solid state loom gives a +10 Lbs. bonus to the Dataspider's weight, as opposed to the +5 Lbs. from most familiar equipment.
Only certain monsters will change images. Bosses will not change images, nor will any monster with the "overridepic" flag.
The image to change to will be of a random monster, with a few conditions: cannot be of a boss, cannot have "overridepic" flag, has to have art (picture is not nopic.gif or noart.gif) and the monster's ID must be below 1050 (Hobelf (WC)). Also, it will not change into a few hardcoded monsters: Johnringo, the Netdragger (monster ID 880), Ringogeorge, the Bladeswitcher (881), Hobelf (Elf Alley) (1031), and Hobelf (WC) (1050) are known to be exempt, though there are presumably around 10 more.
