Familiars by Number

Along with the mysterious Whirling Maple Leaf, there are a few more familiars, or familiars-to-be, or placeholders . . . or something. The Mosquito is #1, and the last familiar in the list is Personal Raincloud (#31), and there is no #13. Next in the list are Clockwork Grapefruit, MagiMechTech MicroMechaMech, Flaming Gravy Fairy, Frozen Gravy Fairy, Stinky Gravy Fairy, Spooky Gravy Fairy. After #37, they're just broken images and no names. Any speculation on these? I wouldn't want to ask on the KoL boards, since I'm not sure how common this knowledge is. - Monochrome Jesus 03:17, 12 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • I'd guess that most of those will be available post-ascension. Since Jick has implemented the hovering sombrero, I'm almost expecting the maple leaf to become available before ascension. There's been talk of the Canadia area for a long while now. Maybe you could list those others in the Ascension spoilers area... --jin 11:31, 12 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Familiar Equipment Messages

I stuck all of the Tam, maypole and lips messages on the familiar pages. You're welcome to reformat them if you like, or move all the messages onto the items' pages. --Agent Lex 15:46, 6 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Familiar Data

Familiar data seems to be far from complete. Apart from the Leprechaun and BGF familiars, we don't have data on how the effects scale. A script that saves familiar attacks and allows them to be evaluated would be very useful. Then a setup on how to test familiars could be devised, according to what they do. (Does familiar always work; if not, how often does it do things on avaerage; how do actions affect combat; how does power scale with weight; do adventurer level or monster level influence performance of familiars...). A rats-head balloon might be useful to get more data about damage at lower weights. I'd be glad to help devising a setup for testing and performing tests.--Gorgolok 15:39, 13 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

  • There's been some preliminary discussion of this sort of effort here: Talk:Data Collection Guidelines. If you have the script skills to do this, that would be terrific. --Gymnosophist 15:58, 13 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

8 lbs value?

8^2=64, not 62. Can anyone confirm which value is the correct one? --FlyingDutchman 14:02, 24 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Mr. Store Familiars

Maybe this is a dumb idea or too spoilery or whatever, but it might be nice to have a page for mr. store familiars. I know when I was starting out I would've liked to have known which familiars were "ungettable" through adventuring without peeking. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bananafanafofana (talkcontribs) at 14:19, 7 November 2005 (CST).

  • Because Mr. Store is not relevant to Category:Familiars. --Einstein9073 02:32, 10 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

I'd also like to see Mr. Store familiars separated, actually. I dont particularly want to have to check every familiar to see 'Mr. Store Item of October 2006' etc. It would be a lot more convenient for others too, I assume. And isn't a wiki supposed to be a convenience? --Antoids 13:59, 17 December 2007 (CST)

^_^; Just as I was about to delete my stupidity... --Antoids 14:35, 17 December 2007 (CST)

Subcategories

I'd like to suggest three new subcategories.

New subcategories
Category Examples
Mr. Store only Hand Turkey,Baby Yeti,Doppleshifter
No longer available Ghost Pickle on a Stick, Hanukkimbo Dreidl, Pet Rock, Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot
Available Mosquito, Blood-Faced Volleyball, Flaming Gravy Fairy, Killer Bee

--Einstein9073 02:32, 10 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

  • It's been a week. If no one objects, I'll start doing this. --Einstein9073 02:50, 17 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
  • I'd hold off a bit longer if I were you. You replied to JRSiebz three months after his comment, yet you expect a response to yours after a week? Thankfully, the lag seems to be getting better, so people may start checking in more often if that stays true. I don't have strong feelings myself about this, but I know some people here do have strong opinions about categories and subcategories. However, you're not actually going to put Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot in the "No longer available" category, are you? Because it just became available. -- Old Ned 04:46, 17 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
  • Yeah but all the "no longer available" familiars are in fact available if you can afford them or the components to make their hatchling. In order to make an NPZR, one item is needed that does no longer drop, making it the same "category" as GPoaS. Maybe "no longer available" sounds intuitively wrong for these as a category title, but they're essentially the same. --NewZorkBat 05:02, 17 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
  • What item is that? Oh, right, the zombie pineal gland. But when could you ever make a dreidl? It's no longer available because it was a one-time Crimbo gift. -- Old Ned 05:32, 17 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
  • Hatches from small Crimbo Pressie if you can afford one? The crimbo '05 familiars can't be made anymore but anyway, all of those can be bought in the mall. So the categories are "can be obtained by playing" and "can be obtained by buying only"... --NewZorkBat 05:43, 17 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)
  • Okay, I can live with those categories; that makes more sense than "no longer available". -- Old Ned 00:20, 18 February 2006 (Central Standard Time)

Undiscovered Familiar

  • Thought I'd put this in. On the J&S show, they mentioned that there was an undiscovered elemental familiar. They said it wasn't a Mr. Store familiar, and could be found by anyone starting out, implying it doesnt require access to the ascension areas of the kingdom (like Knoll mushroom fairies). -- Grimdel 20:56, 29 June 2006 (PDT)

Bruno

looking at the rye familiar website, http://www.therye.org/familiars/, there's a new familiar known as a "bruno" --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aznpride05 (talkcontribs) at 22:19, 30 October 2006 (CST).

Yeah, I was going to ask about that. Possibly it's the newest Crimborg familiar(since the Nano Micro Magi thing doesn't really count)?NoidMan 14:54, 7 December 2006 (CST)

  • As I understand it, Bruno is The Rye's mascot, and his presence on that page constitutes what's known in certain circles as a "joke". ^_~ --Id the Mildly Confused 16:01, 7 December 2006 (CST)

Familiar damage

Can there be a page that has familiars listed by damage and then/or by frequency of attacks? --Raijinili 16:18, 15 January 2007 (CST)

  • You mean sort of like familiars by type? The damage and action rate for most familiars are not exactly known, but this page should be just what you're looking for. --TheDotGamer 07:02, 16 January 2007 (CST)

Black Cat?

I just checked a few minutes ago on the familiar leaderboards, and a section for "Black Cat-Friendly Hardcore Ascensions" came up, with nobody listed. Could Jick and co. have let something slip a little early? --Chillydragon 05:13, 2 August 2008 (CDT)

  • Blackcat2.gif The image for it has been found, as well. It's been mentioned on the radio show and forums that they have been considering using a "100% Black Cat Bad Moon run" to let you permanently unlock Bad Moon (instead of always having to do a cloverless HC lead-in). Since no other content seems to have been found, I'm guessing the familiar can't yet be acquired. But it seems to be near completion. --Flargen 05:25, 2 August 2008 (CDT)
  • There has been an announcement today saying that you can now Perma-Unlock Bad Moon- Boomies

Stats

How about including the stats of folks who have the largest collections of Familiars, and the individual familiars stats? Just an idea. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ravenous Muffin (talkcontribs)

  • Uhm, why? The wiki's never, ever been a place for player information. Moreover, how would we even get that information? --TechSmurf 05:12, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

1 August

August 01 - The output when you put a familiar in your terrarium has been adjusted a little bit. What does this portend? Probably nothing.... So what actually changed? O_o --Hrag 19:40, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

They added a "and you name it X" line. It's already been propagated to the hatchling pages.--Toffile 20:00, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Category:Undead Familiars

I'm aware this request comes a little late, but could we add a Category:Undead Familiars? There is already a category for water-breathing familiars and the undead-category obviously exists in the actual game. --Yatsufusa 11:38, 1 November 2012 (CET)
