Swords are very common melee weapons of which come in varying degrees of handedness.
You clobber <it> in the forehead with the hilt of your sword, dealing X damage. ZOT! SOCKO! WHAM!
You hamstring <it> for X damage. Mmm, ham. And... mmm, string. BONK! WHAM! WHAM!
You poke <it> in the shoulder, dealing X damage. BOOF! SMACK! ZOT!
You slap <it> on the forehead with the flat of your blade, dealing X damage (and producing a satisfying thwap sound). SOCKO! BOOF! SPLAT!
You slice <it> across the thigh for X damage. BARF! KAPOW! BAM!
You slice, dice, and then re-slice <it> for X damage. BONK! BIFF! WHAMMO!
You whirl around and cut <it> right across <its> midsection, doing X damage. SOCKO! BIFF! WHACK!
