Swords are very common melee weapons of which come in varying degrees of handedness.
You clobber <it> in the forehead with the hilt of your sword, dealing X damage. BAM! BIFF! ZAP!
You hamstring <it> for X damage. Mmm, ham. And... mmm, string. BAM! BAM! ZAP!
You poke <it> in the shoulder, dealing X damage. WHACK! WHACK! BOINK!
You slap <it> on the forehead with the flat of your blade, dealing X damage (and producing a satisfying thwap sound). SOCKO! SMACK! ZAP!
You slice <it> across the thigh for X damage. KAPOW! SMACK! SMACK!
You slice, dice, and then re-slice <it> for X damage. BIFF! BARF! WHAMMO!
You whirl around and cut <it> right across <its> midsection, doing X damage. ZOT! ZAP! KAPOW!
