Altared Perceptions - Squirtlcthulli (water and doorknobs)

You discover a stone altar, elaborately carved with a depiction of what appears to be some kind of ancient god. The top of the altar features a bowl-like depression -- it looks as though you're meant to put something into it. Probably something round.

Place Round Object Thusly

After placing an incorrect item in the depression:

You place the <item> in the depression atop the altar. You hear a click, and a dart shoots out of a concealed hole in the stonework! You slump to the ground, unconscious...

Eventually, you come to. It feels like you've got the worst hangover ever, and you didn't even get to have any fun earning it.

AdventuresYou lose 3 Adventures.
Poison.gifYou acquire an effect: Hardly Poisoned at All
(duration: 5 Adventures)

After placing the correct item in the depression:

You place the <stone sphere> in the depression atop the altar. You hear a click, and the sphere sinks into the altar and disappears. There is a loud grinding noise, and a niche opens on the front of the altar, containing an odd triangular stone.

Tristone.gifYou acquire an item: triangular stone

After placing a 2-ball in the depression:

You place the object on the altar. There is a pregnant pause, as though your offering is being carefully considered. Eventually, it disappears into the altar, and you feel a minor surge of power throughout your body. You get the impression that it wasn't really what the god was looking for, but that it was close enough to be worth something.

Waves.gifYou acquire an effect: Blessing of Squirtlcthulli
(duration: 20 Adventures)

Subsequent visits:

Now that you've put something in the round depression in the altar, the altar doesn't really do anything but look neat. Those ancient guys really knew how to carve themselves an altar, mmhmm.

Occurred at The Hidden City.

Notes

  • When used in combat, the correct sphere gives the message "It radiates a bright blue light, and an ethereal mist pours out of it."

References

  • The name on this altar is a portmanteau of the Pokémon character Squirtle and the Lovecraftian Elder God Cthulhu, both of which are associated with water.
