- The description of this item is reminiscent of the Monty Python skit entitled "String", in which a man inherits twenty-two thousand miles of string in three inch lengths. He inquires the assistance of an advertising company to help him sell it, and the advertiser comes up with creative selling points to use to market the string: "The now string! Ready cut, easy to handle, Simpson's Individual Emperor Stringettes - Just the right length!... [for]... a million household uses!".
- The name is also an obvious reference to the smithing item "Sinewy string".
