M-242
M-242

This is a really, really big firecracker, used to make a lot of noise during 4th of Bor celebrations. It's got all kinds of labels on it -- since you don't speak the language they're written in, you can only assume they say things like "TOTALLY, TOTALLY SAFE!" and "FUN FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES!" The only one you *can* actually read says "ACME PRODUCTS," and a quick glance at the dictionary tells you that means "the highest point, the best quality," so you're probably fine.

Type: potion

Selling Price: 150 Meat.

(In-game plural: M-242s)

Obtained From

Stores
The Market (300 Meat during Dependence Day)

When Used

  • On first use:

When you light the fuse on the big firecracker, it starts burning much, much faster than you expected it to. Instead of throwing it, you get scared, drop it, and run screaming into a nearby alley. You can barely even hear the ensuing BANG, you ran so far.

  • If you have already used a firework:

You've already celebrated the Fourth of Bor, and now it's time to get back to work.
  • If used on any day other than the Fourth of Bor:

Sorry, but these particular fireworks are illegal on any day other than the Fourth of Bor. And the law is a worthy institution, and you should respect and obey it, no matter what.

Notes

  • You may use another firework after ascending.

References

  • The name of this item refers to the M-80, a firework banned in the US because of its potential for property damage and injury, and the band Front 242. Two-hundred and forty-two is also eleven squared times two. Possibly this item is a reference to the M-242 "Bushmaster" chain gun, another piece of famously dangerous US Military hardware like the M-80 originally was.
  • The numerous labels on it are a reference to the fact that many fireworks are made in foreign countries and purchased in Mexico.
  • "ACME PRODUCTS" is a reference to Looney Tunes, in which the Acme Corporation is responsible for selling all manner of outlandish contraptions. The name is ironic, as the word "acme" is derived from a Greek word which does, indeed, mean "of highest quality", but Acme's products are typically anything but.
